Amazing!!!!!

It's been an amazing few days in Kay's World. I've been busy with all sorts of things so keeping up with y'all has been a challenge.

* I went to our art community's First Friday celebration on Friday evening and had a really nice time wandering around the galleries and saying 'hi' to my buddies among the street musicians. It was warm and beautiful and there was a huge crowd so I saw a lot of old friends. Eventually, I made my way to the excellent coffee shop that sells excellent coffee for excellent coffee -- cheaper and better than Fourbucks!!!! They had an excellent duo playing and -- wonder of wonders! -- they gave everyone free CDs!!!! Even better, they had a Tarot card reader available. I know how to read the Tarot but I'm not very confident with it and lately, the cards have confused me when I read them for myself so I decided to treat myself to a reading and I'm glad I did. The reader was an absolute delight and we both had a good time. She was delighted that I knew what she was doing and we both chuckled when she did the spread and I pointed to one card and said, "That card has been showing up a lot and it scares me!" Some of her insights were pretty amazing. She also tossed in some reiki because she felt I needed it and that was great. If you haven't heard of reiki, it is described by adherents as "a holistic therapy which brings about healing on physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels". This was my second experience with it and both have been positive. I'm not certain how it works but after she finished I felt better so I can't argue it's validity. I do know that it isn't the gospel but have found some interesting insights from it. Tarot is something I got interested in when I was reading a lot of philosophy because it's been around so long and several philosophers have explored it in depth. And yeah, the art work on the various decks fascinates me. At any rate, I went and hung out at my friend Lynda's gallery and she nagged me to come and do a piece for her "story quilts" soon -- a really great project that's been travelling around the Midwest. I think I'm ready to do it -- finally!

* Easter Sunday I went to Mass and then headed to my brother's to gather with the clan armed with two pies and bunnies for my grandnieces. Mike likes to cook on holidays and does it very well so we were properly stuffed and everyone went home with leftovers. I swear we had the biggest ham in NE Ohio!!!!!! Brianna and Sarah. my grandnieces, are growing like weeds and I enjoyed them immensely. Sarah cracks me up -- she likes to entertain herself and smiles and giggles a lot as she plays. Brianna likes playmates and she enlisted me to help build "mountains" in the sandbox. My nephew Matt turned up with his girlfriend and her daughter but didn't stay long because they had other obligations. I really liked his young lady and told him not to mess it up!!! He seems to have settled down some and I hope he stays on track. Shannon and her boyfriend arrived after making their family rounds and I was glad to see her. It was a good day and I was really tired by the time I got home.

* Yesterday I got busy around here and got some things done. The phone rang and I was surprised when it was the local Census office. They want me to come to work for them part-time for two months. I asked a LOT of questions and finally said I was interested but only if it wasn't going to mess up a lot of things. So far two out of three phone calls have been positive and I'm presently waiting for a callback from #3 so y'all pray and/or think lovely thoughts. This will facilitate my getting the funds I need for my dental work and my projected move. Good stuff!!!!

Today I'm in what I call "full tilt boogie" mode and I have a lot to do. I have to get a lot of things done so I can go back to work and be ready if/when moving happens.

Hope y'all are having a great day!!!!!

Happy Blogging!!!!!!!!!!

I think it's time for winter to be over no matter what Punxatawney Phil and Buckeye Chuck say!!! Either cabin fever is epidemic or somebody lost a Super Bowl bet!!!

Update from the Deep Freeze

The city is closed down more or less. The office is closed and I am off today and a very Cranky Old Broad. Poor Miss Ruby is parked out back and looks like a snow sculpture. I'd take a picture but the freezing rain this morning that added insult to injury has turned our city into an ice skating rink and as much as I love y'all and enjoy entertaining you, I'm not going out there. It's ugly. It's currently snowing hard again and will probably continue throughout the afternoon.

My favorite columnist from our local paper, Charita Goshay, had quite a bit to say about our 'lovely' weather this morning with her tongue planted firmly in her cheek. Here's an excerpt but y'all can read the rest here. I guarantee you a smile and maybe even a giggle or two.

"On Sunday night, a handful of motorists in Perry Township reported seeing mysterious, vertical streaks of light in the sky that changed colors; some streaks lasted as long as 10 minutes.

Explanations have included ice crystals, or an asteroid that has entered the earth’s atmosphere. But what if it’s something else ... a close encounter?

Then again, do we really want dealings with any alien dumb enough to visit Ohio in the dead of January — especially this January? Didn’t he look down?

We’ve gotten more hits this winter than a centerfold’s Web site.

Really, we should have known this was coming. Our regional weather forecast in the almanac reads, “Ha! Good luck.”

FREEZING OVER

So, just how cold has it been?

The rowdy squirrels in my yard, are wearing rabbit.

On the way to work, I saw a dog in pants.

There’s a rumor that Satan offered to open the Gates of Hell to give us a break — but since Barack Obama was elected president, guess what froze over?

If the phenomenon in Perry Township indeed proves to be extraterrestrial, one thing is certain: The alien is male, because he has to be lost. No living being who didn’t already have family here, or a kid in a wrestling, basketball or swimming tournament, would purposely visit Ohio in January."

I hope the kids are in shoveling mode later today. The plows are working overtime and, of course, getting Miss Ruby shoveled out will be a challenge with the mounds of the white you-know-what piled at the end of the drive. Sigh.

That said, I'm going back to bed. I feel like hell.

Happy Blogging!!!!!!!!!

Yet Another Adventure in Kay's World

"Right now I'm wracking my brain for a post for tomorrow."

I typed those words in an email to my darling friend Fran of Sacred Ordinary who some of y'all might know (and the rest of you should) and she suggested I write about my day. The more I thought about it, the better I liked the idea because I already had a paragraph from my email to her and the light bulb in my brain lit up as I remembered that I'd also written about it over at Virginia DeBolt's First 50 where I go (and you can, too!) for writing practice.

I had to be at the hospital bright and cold and early this morning for blood work (The itsy bitsy vampire in the lab was craving A- again!) and a thyroid scan. I was on a fast for the blood test and crabby after twelve hours with only water and black coffee for sustenance. I stopped at the doughnut shop and picked up a couple to nosh after the blood work. It turned out I didn’t have time for that because they took too long at the lab and I had to rush downstairs to Nuclear Medicine to take my pill before the scan. After I took it, the nurse told me I couldn’t eat for another hour (yikes!) and that they would see me at one o’clock when I returned for the x-rays. I was not happy. I was hungry. I dragged myself shopping for an hour to take my mind off food and picked up a few things I needed and then stopped at Pete’s and any concerns for my cholesterol level got tossed out the window as I ordered the Farmer’s Breakfast: two eggs, two sausage patties, two dinner plate-sized pancakes with butter and maple syrup, hash browns and toast (with grape jelly, of course). Did I eat all that? You bet your sweet bippy I did!!! That’ll teach ‘em to starve me!!!! LOL

I went back to the hospital at one like a good girl and went through the tests. I am now radioactive. I even have a card to prove it and I'm to carry it with me until Groundhog's Day. It reads:

KAY DENNISON
Rad: I-123 Caps
Dose: 284.000uCi@01-26-09 08:58
The carrier of this card has undergone a nuclear procedure.
The residual radiation may be detectable externally.

I'm threatening to go out to the airport and see how many bells and whistles I can set a-jangling. I think it would be kind of fun -- nothing exciting ever happens at our airport. However, I really don't want to get up close and personal with those bozos from Homeland Security who aren't known for their sense of humor.

Instead, like the good girl I try to be, I went home. An old flame called to say he's going to be in town and asked if I'd have dinner with him later this week. I said yes because he always takes me places that don't fit my budget and we're still friends.

This isn't the first time I've had this test. I have nodules on my thyroid and they cause hyperthyroidism and it's time to decide what to do about them. The options are either more radioactive iodine or surgery. I'm praying for the former. I have a thing about surgery.

Now I need to get to bed early because I have to be at the hospital at 8:30 AM to finish my thyroid test. If I remember correctly, it will be more x-rays. The good news is I'm not on a fast. I can't get the habit of Pete's fabulous Farmer's Breakfasts or Doc Smith will throw a hissy fit and I'll gain a jeans size or two and we can't have that, can we?

Kay's Wonderful World of Weird Words #7

I'm far and away overdue to do this post as I have a serious backlog of weird words to share with y'all. I am going to try very hard to make this a monthly feature. If I don't y'all, can rag on me for breaking a New Year's resolution and won't that be fun?

alienist: n., psychiatrist. This kind of makes sense. It comes from the French word, aliene, which means 'insane'. Therefore an alienist is a doctor who treats the insane. It's sort of a tossup as to which sounds better: "I have to see my alienist." or "I have to see my psychiatrist." Either way, people will think you're nuts.

elozable: adj., amenable to flattery. I like this word. We are all elozable. It's only human and helps keep us away from the alienist.

frigorific (frig-uh-RIFF-ik): adj.; causing cold. chilling. From the Latin word "frigus", this is a perfect January word. It sounds vaguely obscene and illustrates what I think of winter. On a cold day, you can stick your head out the door and say, "Good Lord, honey, it's freakin' frigorific out here!"

scapegrace (SKAYP-grayss): n.; an incorrigible rascal. My question is this: have you ever known a rascal who wasn't incorrigible? However, I do like this word a lot. Given my circle of acquaintance, I can make good use of this word.

bifurcate (BYE-fer-kayt): v.; to divide or cause to divide into two branches or parts. The illusionist seemingly bifurcated the lady in the box. Sounds a lot nicer than "sawed her in half", doesn't it?

Hope I increased your vocabulary and gave y'all a giggle or two!!!!!!

The 2008 Word of the Year!!!!!!!!

Those fine folks at the New Oxford American Dictionary have announced their Word of the Year for 2008. It's always interesting as their goal is to choose a word that has relevence to the American way of life.

I know y'all are on the edge of your desk chairs in anticipation so without further adieu, I proudly present the 2008 Word of the year: hypermiling!!!!!!!!!!

What, y'all ask is hypermiling? Hypermiling is to "attempt to maximize gas mileage by making fuel-conserving adjustments to one’s car and one’s driving techniques." Rather than aiming for good mileage or even great mileage, hypermilers seek to push their gas tanks to the limit and achieve hypermileage, exceeding EPA ratings for miles per gallon.

Some of the more rabid hypermilers do some pretty wacky things to optimize their mpg. For example:

* driving without shoes (to increase the foot’s sensitivity on the pedals)

* “ridge-riding” or driving with your tires lined up with the white line at the edge of the road to avoid driving through water-filled ruts in the road when it’s raining

The AAA has warned that hypermiling is unsafe. I don't know. I'm not a hypermiler. Miss Ruby is a very efficient lil' machine and I do my best to keep her running smoothly.

The other four finalists for the 2008 Word of the Year were:

* frugalista: a person who leads a frugal lifestyle, but stays fashionable and healthy by swapping clothes, buying second-hand, growing own produce, etc.

* moofer: a mobile out of office worker: i.e., someone who works away from a fixed workplace, via Blackberry/laptop/wi-fi etc. (also verbal noun, moofing)

* topless meeting: a meeting in which the participants are barred from using their laptops, Blackberries, cellphones, etc.

* toxic debt: mainly sub-prime debts that are now proving so disastrous to banks. They were parceled up and sent around the global financial system like toxic waste, hence the allusion.

I like all these words and think they can serve us well in our shaky at best economy and environment! And they shouldn't be too difficult to work into a conversation either!

Whaddya all think?

Happy Blogging!!!!!

Kay (who is definitely a frugalista and proud)

Buckeye Week!!!!!

Buckeye Week continues with lots more fun!!! Today we have some different things and more from TBDBITL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This from my Some People Really Take Fandom to New Levels Department (Five Bucks says the guy who did this is single.):

More from my Some People Have Too Much Time on Their Hands Department: A LEGO replica of The 'Shoe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pretty cool, huh?

And if you couldn't get tickets (a herculean task at best) or if you hate the cold and will be watching at home and are having one the many parties being held across the state, tomorrow will be the perfect day to start getting your buckeyes ready. What are buckeyes, you ask? Wellllll, buckeyes are the fruit of the buckeye tree which is the State Tree of Ohio. Buckeyes from the tree are inedible for humans. However, someone wiser than I long ago came up with a wonderful imitation!!!! And being the magnanimous sort, I am providing y'all with a really easy recipe!!!!

Buckeye Recipe (makes 100)

1 1/2 lbs. powdered sugar
1/2 lb. margarine
1 lb. creamy peanut butter
1 large package chocolate chips
1/3 slab paraffin

Mix sugar, margarine and peanut butter together. Chill in refrigerator overnight. Roll above mixture into small balls about 3/4 to 1 inch in diameter and place on cookie sheets. Chill in refrigerator overnight.

In a double boiler, melt chocolate chips. Add paraffin and mix. Use a toothpick to spear each ball and lower into chocolate leaving a small area at the top . . . the eye of the buckeye. Place on cookie sheet to cool and get firm. Use finger to 'smooth over' toothpick hole. Keep refrigerated. YUM!!!!!!!! ENJOY!!!

Here's TBDBITL as they line up on the ramp entrance for the pregame show. Note: When they renovated the 'Shoe, they made sure to include a ramp for the band so as not to change their entrance routine.) Watch as they get ready to take the field -- the players aren't the only ones who are 'up' for the game!

Here you can see TBDITL as they perform their signature entrance to the 'Shoe. The song they play is The Buckeye Battle Cry aka fight song!

Gooooooooooooooo Buckeyes!!!!!!!!

Kay's Wonderful World of Weird Words #6

Weird words abound and I really liked these that landed in my mailbox recently. Somehow they fit with my thinking these days!

* fugacious (fyoo-GAY-shuhs), adjective: Lasting a very short time.

Love can be fugacious or forever.

* philter (FIL-tur), noun: (1) A potion or charm supposed to cause the person taking it to fall in love. (2) A potion or charm believed to have magic power. (3) To enchant or bewitch with or as if with a magic potion or charm.

It could take a long time to find the the right philter if one wants it to last forever.

* nugacity (noo-GAS-i-tee), noun: triviality; futility.

I am amazed at the unadulterated nugacity of some of the allegations made by both candidates during this presidential campaign.

* atrabilious (at-ruh-BIL-yuhs), adjective: 1. Gloomy. 2. Ill-tempered.

I gave up dating because I'm tired of atrabilious old men.

Aren't these fun? And they aren't too hard to work into conversation. However, some people might look at you as if you're nuts! I know . . . I know . . . I am! LOL

ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!! Someone Has Got Me Pegged!!!

I've been wandering around the Blogosphere visiting everyone on my Blogroll and I'm not done yet -- it's become an almost Herculean task because it's like Topsy -- it just growed and keeps on growing and growing and . . . y'all get the picture. It's been fun and I keep finding stuff I want to post here. I popped over to see Steph at Incurable Insomniac and found she had posted the results of a quiz that allegedly shows your Secret Self and, according to it, she is a White Knight and that's very cool in my not so humble opinion. I am a sucker for quizzes so I decided to take it. Imagine my consternation when my results weren't cool -- they are true! ARGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!

Doormat

Going 1 step beyond I would have to say that you are absolutely right. Really. I never looked at it that way. I could go either way; in fact if you wait around long enough I probably will. I'm not sure I know enough to have an opinion. I think. Maybe I'm wrong though. I do my best to avoid conflict because life's just too short - unless you think it isn't which would be OK too, really. It doesn't matter where we go or what we do, we'll just make the best of it. You tell me what you want. I'll wait here.

Pathetic, yes? Sigh. Think it's too late for me to develop a spine? Would calcium help? Suggestions are welcome when y'all stop laughing. I double dog dare y'all to try it yourselves!

Happy Blogging!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh Noooo -- Not Another Stupid Quiz!

Ever have one of those days when you were dancing on the edge of a breakdown all day and just wanted to scream and vent?

Ever decide that was a lousy idea and posted a silly quiz instead?

If you've ever done either, welcome to Kay's World!!! LOL

Just click on the link below and report back. My results are below!

You Should Be a Politician

Confident, assertive, and dedicated - you know what you want in life and how to get it.

Stubborn and opinionated, you can stand your ground... even if it's unpopular.

And while you have strong views, you never overwhelm people with your opinions.

A true charmer, you subtly influence people into seeing things your way.

You do best when you:

- Work according to your own rules

- Can change the world with what you do

You would also be a good lawyer or talk show host.

Would y'all believe it? LOL!!!!!!!!!!!! Problem is I'm not sure I wanna grow up!!!!!

Kay's Wonderful World of Weird Words #5

I haven't done one of these for a longgggggggggg time and frankly, I've missed it. I was required in college to take a class in Linguistics and I found that I love exploring the language and it's origins -- especially the weird words -- and I subscribe to at least a half dozen different sites that send me interesting or weird words. Here are a few of my recent finds. I hope y'all enjoy them as much as I have. The challenge is working them into casual conversation.

trichotillomania: (n.) the abnormal desire to pull out one's hair.

I think of it as a disease brought on by people who drive us nuts!

Cockaigne: (n.) An imaginary land of ease and luxury.

Remove a couple letters and you get a substance that takes you to that land. Coincidence?

quisquilian: (adj.) worthless, trifling.

This one could be useful in describing a lot of the members of Congress -- don't y'all agree?

heliolatry: (n.) sun worship

Compulsive tanners practice this.

titivate: (v.) to make or become smart or spruce.

Using this in conversation could cause some raised eyebrows! I think George Carlin would have liked it!

quotidian: (adj.) 1) Occurring or returning daily; as, a quotidian fever. 2) Of an everyday character; ordinary; commonplace.

I think y'all will all agree that the words here could not be called quotidian.

And last but not least, I'll leave with a word to think about . . .

callipygian: having well-shaped buttocks.

The Kay heads to her corner and puts on her Thinking Cap.

Hmmmmmmmmm . . .

Kay's Wonderful World of Weird Words #4

It is seriously cold and bone-chilling windy in Ohio. In the grand tradition of Carnac the Magnificent, y'all ask, "How cold is it?" It is so cold that . . . the windows and doors were frozen shut on poor Miss Ruby and I had to call AAA to get them open so I could get to the office. Other than needing the money, I may as well have stayed home. There's nada to do today and so I guess I get to play here unless the phone rings. OOPS! The boss just stuck his head in to tell me that he has some new data for one of my spreadsheets so another plan "gang aft agley" in the words of Robert Burns.

Okay, I'm back after six hours of wrestling with data and the ever-ringing telephone -- mostly en espanol of course. I'd love to ask my favorite question: "Can I go now? My brain is full." but since I was late this morning that wouldn't be very nice.

I recently added a new Word-A-Day to the half dozen or so I already have emailed daily. This one is from the
Urban Dictionary. It's really kind of fun because it's a dictionary of slang and audience participation is encouraged and one can submit definitions. A lot of the definitions are internet acronyms and some are rather crude to which I say: yawwwwwwnnnnnn but some are quite creative and funny and some are right on the mark.

Here are a few I particularly liked:

bush: one who uses patriotism and immense propaganda to gain support for illegal, unjustified, brutal acts upon oppressed people for own gains. whether it be oil or money.

'Nough said!

choreplay: When a woman is turned on by the sight of her husband/boyfriend/partner doing regular household chores, that she would normally be doing.

I don't know if that would be a turn-on or a shock.

refrigerator blindness: Selective loss of visual acuity in association with common foraging of the refrigerator. Predominantly seen in children and males.

As in, "Honey? Where's the orange juice?" Having spent several decades married and raising kids, I know this condition exists.

rock star parking: The rare occurrence of obtaining a parking space directly outside the door of a bar, club, or restaurant.

Oh heck! I get that any time I want . . . wait a minute -- that's handicapped parking! Sigh.

And I absolutely love this last phrase!

electile dysfunction: The inability to become aroused over any of the choices for President put forth by either party during an election year.

The above describes how I've felt since I was old enough to vote. Sigh.

Hope you enjoyed my findings. And I'll be back tomorrow -- hopefully-- with some quotes from a writer I love!!!!!

Happy Blogging!!!!!

The 2007 Word of the Year!

I'm in my Wonderful World of Weird Words mode and so is the New Oxford American Dictionary. Anyone who is a logophile is acquainted with it's mother publication, Oxford English Dictionary. It's probably the best dictionary of our language -- it not only includes definitions but has the history of the word which is really helpful for those of us who are interested in linguistics. If you visit the OED site you can, as I do, subscribe to their word of the day which is always interesting. The American edition has a blog that's interesting, too.

Each year the American edition, the New Oxford American Dictionary, selects a word of the year -- usually related to social trends and this year The New Oxford American Dictionary's 2007 Word of the Year is:

locavore: a person who uses locally grown produce largely for nutritional and ecological reasons.

The word began in San Francisco (where else?) with four women who began encouraging residents of the area to buy produce grown within a 100-mile radius or, even better, grow their own. The locavore movement has spread and more and more people are doing their produce shopping at farmer's markets or planting gardens. In some areas, they prefer 'localvore' but the meaning and concept is the same. Heck! I knew that as a kid whose parents -- and grandparents on both sides -- always planted a garden and it was fresh fruit and veggies all summer long. And and anything that could be "put up" (i.e., canned) was. Homemade strawberry preserves or grape jelly on your toast in the morning is the greatest!

Maybe I'm being picky but I'm not certain if I would consider it the word of the year because the first I heard of it was in a newsletter I get from Michael Quinion in England called World Wide Words, another interesting read if you love words.

Some of the runners-up that I like are:

colony collapse disorder: a still-unexplained phenomenon resulting in the widespread disappearance of honeybees from beehives, first observed in late 2006.

mumblecore: an independent film movement featuring low-budget production, non-professional actors, and largely improvised dialogue.

aging in place: the process of growing older while living in one’s own residence, instead of having to move to a new home or community.

If you want to see the entire list of nominees, you can look here.

Hope you find all this as interesting as I do and let me know if you're familiar with their choice as the 2007 Word of the Year! It's nagging at me that I missed it in my travels.

It's Blogthings Week!!!!!!

It seems like everywhere I've been going in the Blogosphere, there's a Blogthings quiz so I decided to join the party!

Mary Ann at Five Wells asked, What Art Movement Are You? (Romanticism) My buddy Clarence at Can You Hear Me Now? wants to know Are You a Good Cook? (excellent)
Ronni at Rants by Ronni is curious about What Kind of Wine Are You? (Cabernet Sauvignon)

I decided that I'd go totally mundane and boring and answer the burning question: What Does Your Pizza Say About You?

I'm pretty boring as you can see. Hope y'all let me know how y'all fared!

Happy Blogging!!!!!!!!!!!

What Your Pizza Reveals

Your appetite is pretty average. You don't go overboard - but you don't deprive yourself either.

You aren't particularly picky about pizza. It's so good... how could you be? You fit in best in the Western part of the US.

You like food that's traditional and well crafted. You aren't impressed with "gourmet" foods.

You are generous, outgoing, and considerate with your choices.

You are cultured and intellectual. You should consider traveling to Vienna.

The stereotype that best fits you is geek. You're the type most likely to order pizza to avoid leaving your computer.

I Can Die Now -- I've Seen Everything!

I found this website while visiting Dustbury. He posts interesting tidbits and links from across the Internet. This link addresses the problem -- complete with video -- of VPL. It treats the subject like a dread disease like leprosy or somesuch.

What is VPL you ask, gentle bloggers? It stands for visible panty line.! And Backless Lingerie is here to rescue us from it! I've never really thought of that as a problem but then I don't wear my jeans so tight I need a crowbar to get into them much less suffer VPL. I suppose it might be for some people because the website states:

"Welcome to Backless Lingerie, a comfortable and sexy solution to the problem of VPL (visible panty lines) which has plagued the lingerie industry.

Backless Lingerie is a unique and inexpensive alternative lingerie to thongs, g-strings or normal panties."

See? VPL is a plague according to these folks. I think I'm immune. My size 12 jeans are sorta baggy so I doubt I'm in danger. Maybe if I went for a 10 I'd have to worry but, my friends, that ain't happenin' in this lifetime! I'm a relaxed fit kind of girl.

I was going to put a photo here but I think it would drive my G rating up to an X and while I'd like to be more of hellion here, I think that that would be pushing it too far. So just click on the link above and learn about the latest innovation in lingerie. They say we'll never wear thongs again -- HA! like I ever did! lol These things look wayyyy too weird for me. Whaddaya think?

You, Too, Can Be an Action Figure!!!!! Only $425

Just when I think they've thought of every weirdo thing they can think of, they think of some new weirdo thing! I found this one at Dave Barry's Blog. Where else? He's made millions finding weird stuff!

Your very own custom-designed action figure of yourself! And only $425 for the first one and a mere $39.95 apiece for additional figures. Instead of being An Army of One, you can be an army of hundreds if you have more money than sense!

The
reviewing website states:

Yes! Now you can pose dueling Darth Vader, throwing down with the Ninja Turtles or showing GI Joe who is boss. Herobuilders will make a 12″ version of you (90% accurate) that is pose-able, lovable and hug-able. Who wouldn’t love a mini-you?

It works like this: you send in images of yourself and any tattoos or other features you want included. Herobuilders then sends you back a sculpture of your head for approval. On your approval they make a mold and send you action figure from that mold. Nice and easy. Custom clothing, tools, 20 second speaking capabilities and the like are all options. Everything looks to be made in the USA. Want to create an army of “yous”? Additional copies cost just $39.95

The company also makes popular figures; they started with President Bush action hero. There is a Condi Rice makes me laugh.

There ya go! They urge you to order now for Christmas delivery! Right! I'm gonna order action figures at $425.00 each for my three and five-year-old grandsons. I know what kids do with those! I'm betting many of y'all who have kids have stepped on a Star Wars figure on your way to the bathroom in the middle of night and damn near killed yourself, too! That's big ouch! After paying 425 big ones, I'd feel compelled to give it its own room! lol

Then again . . . how 'bout an action figure of the Kay? An Army of Kays even! You know -- Liz Claiborne little black dress, pearls, and Bandolino pumps and a Prada bag hanging from one shoulder and an Uzi draped artfully over the other shoulder. All decked out to give new meaning to the term "power shopping!" Hmmmmmmmm . . . now where do I get the money? LOL

Groaner of the Week!

I've told y'all in the past about my penchant for puns and what I call groaners. You know the kind of jokes where when you hear the punchline you let out a huge "groooaaaaaann!" Judy
over at Imagine What I'm Leaving Out suggested that I post a few of my favorites. I ran into a problem with that. I have so many I didn't know which to use. My groaner collection numbers in the hundreds and new ones come in via the UGA Humor List daily. If you're interested and love humor as much as I do, this list is well worth taking a look at and subscribing to -- you might even consider becoming a contributor. Many are professors at such august institutions as Cornell.

As a result, I've decided that, if y'all like it, I will post a groaner for y'all each week. Please register your groans of approval below in the Comments section. LOL

And here's a favorite of mine with a punchline perfect for the good old summertime:

Outside a small Macedonian village close to the border between Greece & strife-torn Yugoslavia, a lone Catholic nun keeps a quiet watch over a silent convent. She is the last caretaker of the site of significant historical developments spanning more than 2,000 years.

When Sister Maria Cyrilla of the Order of the Perpetual Watch dies, the convent of St. Elias will beclosed by the Eastern Orthodox Patriarch of Macedonia. However, that isn't likely to happen soon, as Sister Maria, 53, enjoys excellent health. By her own estimate, she walks 10 miles daily about the grounds of the convent, which once served as a base for the army of Attila the Hun.

In more ancient times, a Greek temple to Eros, the god of love, occupied the hilltop site. Historians sayt that Attila took over the old temple in 439 A.D. and used it as a base for his marauding army. The Huns are believed to have first collected and then destroyed a large gathering of Greek legal writs at the site. It is believed that Attila wanted to study the Greek legal system, and had the writs and other documents brought to the temple. Scholars differ on why he had the valuable documents destroyed -- either because he was barely literate and couldn't read them or because they provided evidence of democratic government that did not square with his own notion of rule by an all-powerful tyrant.

When the Greek church took over the site in the 15th Century and the convent was built, church leaders ordered the pagan statue of Eros destroyed, so another ancient Greek treasure was lost. Today, there is only the lone sister, watching over the old Hun base.

And that's how it ends: No Huns, no writs, no Eros, and nun left on base.

I hope y'all are groaning loud and long!

Assorted Nonsense

Today I'm going light-hearted. I'm tired of the drama in my life -- and, lucky you, I've spared y'all the worst part. Leave it to my blogging buddies and other pals to give me some laughs!

This came in and gave me a good giggle and probably a grain or two of truth -- make sure you check out the license plate -- it's a real knee-slapper! All I can say is the owner has a great sense of humor!

My friends the Redneck Diva , a funny and straightforward lady and that's putting it mildly, and Mark at Going Like Sixty found a site that will rate your blog. You can also look for a date there if you're into that. Below is my rating -- I have been a very good girl! lol

Yesterday I visited Andy over at
Older but No Wiser -- a sentiment I sadly resemble -- and found that he's been Simpsonized! Soooooooooooo I decided that I wanted to see if I could make the Kay a Simpson, too! The result is below. Let me know how you fare! Just go here.
It's a really fun site and, if you're so inclined, you can search it and see where your character might appear. I was discovered hanging out at Moe's Tavern with the guys! All I wanna know is why there wasn't a beer in my hand! Oops! My picture is posted above the bar: Wanted : For Fake ID! You can only imagine how hard I'm laughing at that! I couldn't get the full-length thing to work so I'm a tad disappointed.

I hope you're laughing -- I sure am!!!!!!!!

Who Do You Look Like????

I came across a really fun website that's based on facial recognition software called Stars in You. Ever wonder if you look like a movie star? Here's your chance to find out! You just go to the website, upload a face shot of yourself and select female, male or both and voila! they show you your matches as well as the percentage of resemblance and they even put together a gif of you and your matches! I wanted to post mine here but my computer wouldn't cooperate. I did notice, however, that using different pictures results in different matches. I laughed a lot at the results! Hope you have fun, too!

With my profile picture I got the following results:

77% Julia Louis Dreyfus
76% Patrick Dempsey
74% Donna Summer
73% Corey Feldman
71% Debby Harry
71% Ken Stott
69% Holly Valance
67% Travis Tritt
66% Maria Gracia Cucinotta

With this photo the results were different even though the photos were taken within mere weeks of wach other. Kudos and hugs to The Man for being such a great photographer! The results are:

77% Gene Kelly
76% Elle Macpherson
75% Adam Brody
74% Barbra Bush
71% Alexa Havers
71% Kevin Spacey
69% Kristin Kreuk
69% Clive Owen
67% Michelle Rodriguez
67% John Ritter

Please note that I didn't include results of less than 65% because it started getting pretty bizarre. I sincerely doubt that anyone would ever think I look like Mick Fleetwood but there he was at 64%! LOL I would rather look most like Elle (should I change my hair color?) than Gene (I'd love to dance like him) although Julia isn't bad. I don't think I look much like Donna Summer but I'd love to sing like her. I don't know who some of these people are which tells me how out of it I am in regard to the entertainment scene.

Okay Y'all -- your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to go see who you look like and post it on your blog (the timid can just report back via email) so we can really have a good laugh together! Consider yourselves tagged!!!!!!!!!!!!
