Update fron Kay's Chaotic World
I've been a very busy old gal. I'm wayyyyy behind on everything. In my next life I'm gonna be organized and healthy and rich.
* I had my semi-annual checkup with my old buddy, Dr. Jody the neurologist, who was upset 'cause Dr. Maria didn't send him the skinny on my recent surgery.
* I also had to see Dr. Mark the orthopedist as I strained a muscle or two in my good shoulder. I'm supposed to rest. Yeah, right . . . when donkeys fly!
* Today I have to go to the hospital for my weekly class. I'm not talking about it until I can "Mission Accomplished!" except to say that I think I'm doing pretty well.
* Today is also monthly errand day -- scrips, gasoline, grocs, and a present for Racy Gracie's Birthday on Saturday!!!
* Last Saturday was a double whammy. I spent the morning working for the Obama campaign to register folks to vote. Imagine my surprise when I found that I was working with my friend Norma who I'd met when I was working for my then Congressman. Norma is also a member of our Occupy group which was also meeting that day so we made a mad dash from one venue to the next. We both turned down passes to see Obama in Columbus on Saturday (tomorrow) due to prior commitments. She says it looks like he'll visit here later on in the campaign and I hope that I can get a ticket for that.
* Here's an excellent thought from Stephen King to Mittens:
Is anyone but me less than enchanted with trying to get Blogger to format?
I'll be around later to visit y'all!!!!!
Happy Blogging!!!!!!

It's Just Another Day in Paradise . . .
I'm still buried and it's gonna be worse until it gets better. Sigh. Just when I thought I was making inroads on all the things on my 'gottado' list, the damned phone rang. Sunday Alec called to tell me that Jeff was in the hospital and could I please go take care of Shaughnessy for a couple days. Yikes!!! Of course, I can't turn Alec down so my list just got longer. It seems the Jeffer had a heart attack and needs some surgery. Alec had talked to his doc and asked him to contact Cleveland Clinic and send Jeff up there because they are the best. By the time he called me, he had made arrangements to fly to Cleveland (it's December so he's in Florida) tonight to be there for Jeff so I'll be taking care of the Shaughn until he brings Jeff home and we'll work from there. Soooo I'm trying to get my stuff done and wrangling that spoiled overgrown puppy. I'm trying mightily to get caught up with y'all and still get ready for the the holiday madness.
I'll try to keep y'all updated on how things are going with the Jeff -- the good folks up there are really excellent so I'm 99.9% sure that he'll be driving us all nuts again in record time.
Have a great day!!!!
Happy Blogging!!!!

Quick Note: On the Road Again
I'm off, despite misgivings to the contrary, to wander through The Great Swamp of Toledo aka my childhood home. I'll be returning on Sunday as Dr. Jody and Dr. K. have tests scheduled. The former has, in addition to blood work, ordered me to have an EMG which sure doesn't look like fun and is a new one on me. The latter has my annual bone scan (a no-brainer) to see if the tiny bit of osteoporosis is getting any worse. Sigh.
In the meantime, I'll be meeting dear, dear Gene for lunch and heading up to Toledo to spend a few days with my stepmom which is usually fun. Hopefully I'll return refreshed and ready to blog my little heart out and face all the challenges ahead.
Here's an two-minute oldie that fits my mood!!! Gotta love CCR!!!! Enjoy!!!!

Assorted Nonsense
Life has a way of intruding. Yesterday The Groaner of the Week didn't appear because I had doctor appointment and, obviously, I am guilty of bad planning. Sigh. Today was neurologist day and while the news is less than stellar, it was sorta fun. When I received my packet from the neurology practice in the mail, it didn't specify which doctor I was to see. -- I didn't know until they called to remind me of today's appointment with Dr. Jody. I laughed like hell because he was my neurologist when I had my stroke over thirty years ago and my hospital roommate dubbed him 'Jody' because he looked like Billy Crystal who played 'Jody' on that wacky old series, "Soap". He's bald now and almost chuckled when I mentioned that -- neurologists aren't famous for their sense of humor or bedside manner (probably because they sees so much tragedy). We had good meeting and he ordered a test for neuropathy. There's no cure but there are some things that can help. The bottom line the is that I know I'm in good and trusted hands and that, my friends, is a great blessing and a cause for hope.
* I'm so glad y'all enjoyed the Banned Books Week posts. And Nance, Ambrose Bierce is indeed a snarky sort -- I hope you're laughing as hard as I do when I revisit The Devil's Dictionary. There's a copy of it on my desk.
* I'm still hoping to head up to Toledo for a few days but until I have everything scheduled, I'm not making definite plans until I know that my Social Security check has been deposited (no, I don't trust Congress nor should you)and yes, Dr. Jody has ordered yet another test. Nothing makes me hungrier than knowing that I'm not allowed to eat. Oh well.
* I've been watching a lot of the wonderful interviews from Inside the Actors' Studio -- available at Netflix, of course. If y'all haven't seen them, they are really interesting and often revealing. I particularly enjoyed the interviews with Clint Eastwood and Morgan Freeman.
Here's a video I found and I want to shake the hand of the gentleman who speaks! It softens my jaded and crabby view of the world.
Hope y'all are having a great day!

Still Crazy
I'm still buried and out of sorts. However, I do want thank you loyal supporters who are still hanging with me. I do want to get around to visit y'all but it doesn't bode well. I see the shrink and the neurologist next week -- and I especially hope the latter has some answers or at least some decent advice. What it probably means is more damned tests. Sigh.
The political scene is, at best pathetic and the GOP is threatening default AGAIN!!!! I swear the stress of that is going to drive me to an early grave. I'm hoping to head up north but if Boehner et al try to pull that stunt, I simply can't.
Here's Bill Maher back from vacation with 1:03 seconds of giggle.

AWOL
Sorry I've been MIA. The stress of Congress' inane antics and assorted nonsense here at home, frayed my last nerve and a break was necessary. I did try to keep up on y'all and if I missed anyone, it was a sin of omission not commission. I'm probably gonna be slow on this for couple days -- I'm still not 100% and need to sort through some stuff but I do want to stay current here in the Land of Blog and I'll do what I can when I can.
* I saw a new acronym this morning: the GOS (Great Orange Satan) and I think I like it a lot!!! What do y'all think?
* I'm glad (read: relieved) that my SS was deposited but am not happy with the deal with the GOS our representatives made. We need to remember those who want to kill us off at election time next year and kick 'em out. As it is, it's canceling any summer plans I had because I have to do my best to get some cash stashed. I'm allowed to pay my bills and eat -- albeit very frugally. No road trips; no restaurant meals/nights out; no purchases except for scrips and necessities. I also canceled my annual Hall of Fame festival party/partying this weekend -- I just don't feel well enough to cope with it all.
* Here's a video from a lovely, talented young lady who I've become friends with through the We Are Ohio campaign:
"Concerned citizens of central Ohio gathered at Senator Rob Portman's office today at noon, while the Senate was voting on the Satan Sandwich/Raw Deal budget bill on August 2nd, 2011. When even politically moderate grandmothers start talking about revolution, you know it's time for change."

Another Day in Paradise
Things are just getting weirder. Yesterday I was in ER -- again. The night before I had, what the ER called, an episode of vertigo. I wasn't feeling well and my eye (the one that I had the surgery on) was bothering me. And as I took myself to bed, I fell and banged up my less than perfect face as well as my good arm and was literally crawling around my place which told me that all was not well . We're experiencing temperatures in the 90s here and I don't have AC. Usually, the heat doesn't bother me but, obviously, this year it's a problem -- probably due to my ear problem. In the morning Michelle took me to the ER before she went to work.
I was at the ER five hours and now have a diagnosis of vertigo, dehydration, contusions, a bladder infection (and a partridge in a pear tree). I have a scrip I need to fill and I have to follow up with an appointment with Dr. Maria in the next couple days but I'm not allowed to drive. Sigh. I also need a trip to the grocery. And I'm supposed to rest. And the beat goes on . . . and this is as good as it gets for today. Michelle called to see how things went and says that Bryce will come and help with housework. I'm grateful!
I'll be trying to get around to visit y'all and catch up on emails.
Hope y'all are having a great day!!!!

Mea Culpa!! Life intrudes . . .
Life takes some nasty turns and bad things happen to the nicest people.
I had a call from my neighbor/good friend Michelle's mom, who has also become a good friend, called late Thursday night and she asked me if I would come to get her (she doesn't drive) and take her to Michelle's and gave me a very short reason why. I, of course, pulled myself together and said, "yes" because she wouldn't ask if it weren't important and saved my questions (Why?) until I saw her.
As we rode back to the 'hood, she explained a bit more -- it's a short drive -- of what had happened and I was thoroughly disgusted and appalled and all but destroyed any faith and trust I have left in my ability to judge someone's character. The upshot was that Shirley came over later and told me more -- adding to my anger. Michelle came over later after she made sure the kids were asleep (her brother stays with them) and I grabbed glasses and a bottle of wine and said, "Talk! It's good for you!" And she did. It sounded like a story ripped from the tabloids and she was wreck and we all talked and talked and cried until 5 AM and the result of that was that I slept all day and didn't get a post here.
The good news was that Michelle was doing better yesterday -- she's a very smart young woman and has been through enough to be resilient -- and trying very hard to pull herself together and keep her 'game face' on for the kids. She invited me over for homemade lasagna and I'd never miss that! I'm sparing y'all the gory details because it isn't my story to tell and too tawdry to share here. Blessedly, Gracie is away for a few days and Bryce is old enough to understand and little Ana, too young.
And the kicker on all this is that yesterday was her birthday. Life really get nasty sometimes, doesn't it? I've promised to help any way I can and God only knows how messy things will get but I will try to keep up with y'all and my blog.

Home Again
I am home. Home is good. Now I have the monumental task of getting back to my regular routine and catching up with y'all!!!!
It was a good trip. After starting with a massive rain storm here, as I headed north the weather got better and by the time I got to Bellevue, it was absolutely lovely with almost too warm weather and blue skies. At Bellevue, I met Gene and we had an excellent lunch at an excellent Mexican restaurant. Gene, who comments here and at a lot of other blogs, is a delight and we talked like we'd known each other for an eternity. She was delighted with the box of chocolates I brought her from our local chocolatier and I was delighted with the eggs she brought for Barb and I from their farm. I love meeting my blogging friends -- it confirms my belief that all y'all are just friends that I haven't met yet!
Barb and I had an excellent visit. We really didn't do a lot so I didn't take a lot of photos (I also forgot about pictures when I met Gene. Sigh.) She hasn't felt well and really didn't feel like wandering around too much so other than shopping trips, some excellent meals out, and going to the cemetery where we tidied up Dad's grave, we really didn't do too much except talk a lot. I brought her chocolates, too, and she -- like Gene -- was an instant aficionado. I'll spare y'all the terrors of the Bridge from Hell and just say that it was an adventure (gross understatement).
Barb is a political junkie, too, so we followed the news and discussed it a lot. She hates Sarah Palin and was absolutely appalled with her intrusion at the Run For the Wall and was pretty disgusted with Anthony Weiner's antics but aren't we all? Then again, that's another blog.
Today, I'll be getting things unpacked, doing some needed chores (unpacking) and errands, and heading to see the endocrinologist -- hopefully, he'll explain why I'm so tired all the time.
The main focus, however, is getting around to see y'all and seeing all the wonderful things y'all have been doing!!!!
Happy Blogging!!!!!!!!!!

Just a Few Notes . . .
I'm still catching up -- and it's starting to look like a job for Batman. I think I need one of those bat signal thingies to signal for help from the Caped Crusader. That said, I'm still fighting with my eyes and my computer and I think I have figured out what the problem with the former is: my monitor is too damned bright and I'll be damned if I can figure out how to get it adjusted properly. And there are no instructions on how to adjust it that I can find . . . yet. As a result, I'm trying to limit my online time because to otherwise hurts and causes panic attacks. It's a toss up to which of those two dread things I hate most. And thanks to all y'all who liked yesterday's post on the TJ Center.
* Last night I had a lovely and fun talk with my friend Gene who comments here often and we're meeting for lunch on Monday over in Wooster and from our conversation, I can tell you that she's a doll and I'm looking forward to meeting her and am sure we will have great fun!
* For all y'all who are fans of my hero, Bernie Sanders, tonight he's gonna be on both The Rachel Maddow Show and Jon Stewart's The Daily Show and if y'all miss them, full episodes of both will be online tomorrow. How do I know this? I subscribe to the newsletter, The Friends of Bernie Sanders and am proud to be a member. And yeah, as with all politicians, y'all can contribute to his efforts for us there. And here's Bernie on The Dylan Ratigan's show:
This 1965 oldie brings to mind finals week my sophomore year at Kent and I think it's germane to our country's plight today. We sang it at top volume in the dorm just before Absolute Quiet hours took effect!
Hope y'all are having a great day!

It Seems that I'm Back . . . Until the Next Disaster(s)
Happy Easter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's always an adventure in Kay's world. In the midst of the nasty infection in my computer, there was more "fun". For some weird reason, the eye that was just operated on started hurting and I couldn't see out of it. I called Dr. Jamie's service and left a message and called Michelle and asked her to come look at it. I saw her expression and I knew that it wasn't good. Fortunately, Dr. Jamie called back quickly because I was in full tilt boogie panic mode. He told me to increase my eye drops, put hot compresses on my eye and see him at the office in the morning. The good news is that it worked and I could see again so I have some new knowledge. When I saw him, he said everything looked good. (HUGE sigh of relief.)
My computer is back to normal. Even my ex was perplexed by it and that is what really scared me because he really knows his stuff from the many years he spent in tech support for a major corporation. He was the guy they called at 4 am when the network went down. (I remember one night when they called and he managed to tell them how to fix it without having to go down there and the next morning I said something about it and he said, "What?" and I told him about what he did so I consider him my personal geek squad. LOL) I had written a note about my problem to tech support at my anti-virus AVAST and got a note back from them telling me what I needed to do and how to do it and it worked really well. I had used their free version for years and liked it and recently paid for and registered it recently. All I can say is that their help with it saved me a lot of angst. That said, I got the blue screen of death in the middle as I was typing this. It's been a problem and I think I may have found a solution. Cross whatever appendages y'all deem appropriate.
I've been slowly but surely catching up on visiting y'all and will try to stay up-to-date. Bryce and Gracie were just here to thank me for the chocolate bunnies I sent over and the bunny squeeze toys I sent for Ana. Gracie brought an Easter egg she made with my name on it. I almost cried. I really love those kids. They and their mom are true blessings in my life. And yeah, Gracie and I had a big old time when I picked her up from school the other day. We played Go Fish and munched cookies -- sheer heaven for both of us!!!
Tomorrow I'll be back with the Groaner of the Week and I'll, hopefully, get back to regular posting if the computer gods allow it!
Hope y'all are having a great day!!!!!
Happy Blogging!!!!!!!!

Update
The sun has been shining in Ohio but I haven't been able to enjoy it. Grrrrrrrrr! I hope I am truly back up and running. I spent so much time with my ex over the past week, I couldn't believe it.He really knows his stuff about computers and was a great help. And yeah, I'm taking him to lunch next week. If you have ever had to start from scratch y'all know how time-consuming and frustrating it is. Let's just say that a lot of Anglo-Saxon barbarisms were in play. The good news is that I had bought a couple 4GB flash drives and saved a bunch of stuff that I can't manage without. Whew!!!! It sure saved my asker. Even after re-formatting, I still had a lot to do because Microsoft all but spoon fed all the updates on Vista (don't ever use Vista and don't ever let friends use it either.) and a bunch of programs needed to be re-installed -- there are still some things that are MIA. I don't know how many hours I spent working on this stupid machine but I hope the ordeal is over for a while. In my next life, I'll keep a hard copy list of all the programs I use. I'm also going to put some stuff on CDs and bundle them with my programs. I'm also gonna get an external hard drive and keep it backed backed up in case something like this happens again.
In the midst of all the 'fun', I had to do my taxes which are now duly filed and accepted and I'm eagerly awaiting my refund. I also had to go for my post-surgery eye exam. Dr. Jamie pronounced me perfect and gave me a new scrip. I only need glasses for reading and the computer.
The weekend is upon us and I've promised myself that I'm going to get my front porch cleaned up with some help from Bryce -- I never cease to be amazed at how messy it gets during the winter. I'm thinking that I'll probably go a-wandering (perennials) on Sunday with my camera and hopefully get some plants and flowers to plant out front. If y'all know of plants that like shade (my place faces north), crappy soil, and thrive on neglect, I'm open to suggestions. And hopefully, I'll get some time to visit y'all.

Update
I'm still pretty much buried. The good news is that I've made a lot of progress; the bad news is that I have over-exerted myself and am exhausted so I slowed down this afternnoon and, hopefully, I'll be back on track tomorrow. The list is getting shorter and I just hope I stay the course and keep things organized.
I do appreciate y'all coming by and leaving such kind comments. Hopefully, I'll be back to my regular schedule soon and can get caught up with y'all before my eye surgery on the 21st. If it goes as well as it did with my other eye, y'all prolly won't even notice that I'm gone.
Hope y'all are having a great day!!!!!!

Just in Case . . .
Just in case anyone was wondering why I haven't been around . . . hey! It could happen!
I am alive and as well as can be expected because, in addition to other sturm und drang that's been invading my so-called life, my computer decided to be plain damned nasty and has put me through hell. I lost a LOT of files and folders and photos. I'm thanking God, Buddha, Allah, ad infinitum as well as plain damned luck that a good deal of it has been recovered. Then again, I may never know how much I have lost. The ex and I have been working like crazy for most of the past 48 hours and there is still a lot to do. Sigh.
I actually promised to take him to lunch at which should tell y'all what a great help he was. We discovered a really neat little program called Recuva that works a treat at recovering lots of stuff. I won't tell you how fast it is because it isn't but it does a great job.
I simply can't tell y'all when I'll get back to what passes for normal in Kay's World but I hope it's soon.
Here's Mick and company performing what has been pretty much my theme song for the past few days . . .
Hope y'all are having a great day and that I can get some time to visit and write!!!!!!!
Happy Blogging!!!!!!

Sigh.

Quick Update
My prime goal today is getting caught up with y'all and your emails. I do apologize for the neglect. So far, everything I've started today -- it's so bad that I've just poured my first cup of coffee (and that, my friends, borders on heresy) -- has been interrupted which validates my philosophy that life is what happens when you're making other plans. That said, I'm going to post this and start my mission for the day. See y'all soon!!!!
This video came in today and I think it's important. It really lays it on the line of how dangerous these people are. That a film maker of Robert Greenwald's stature has made such a powerful statement is a strong indicator. If y'all are sick of Faux News, you can sign on here and here. Here's an excellent clip from Ed Schultz's show:
Hope y'all are having a great day!!!

Last Day of the Year Thoughts
It's been a hectic week and I've spent a lot of time trying to make sure that end of the year stuff is in order and catching up on chores. I probably forgot a few things but I think/hope everything important is in order. Some day I'm going to be organized and will probably die from shock the following day. LOL
* The car doctor called yesterday at lunch time and said Miss Ruby is well and asked when they could come get me. When I asked what they did and how much her repairs cost, I was pleasantly surprised because it was a lot less than I expected and said I'd be ready when they got here . Fifteen minutes later one of their pleasant and polite guys pulled up out front and took me to get Miss Ruby. She runs great and I swear that they washed her before they gave her back. How's that for service. I spent the rest of the day running all over town to get caught up on errands.
* Thanks to all y'all for your input on the anti-depressants -- I've pretty much decided that I'm going to go without them. There's a big difference between being depressed and being disappointed -- the latter being a large part of how I've been feeling and venting here helps.
* Jeff was by the other day and asked me to a party. I was already invited and told him I wasn't going with or without him. I just want to watch some movies and spend some time reflecting on and assessing some things for the coming year. I really think that's what New Year's is about. My days of hell-raising on New Year's are done.
* A shoutout to Sightingat60 for his kind words about my other blog -- he read the whole damn thing -- and to anyone else who stopped by. He's a new visitor here and he writes an really intelligent blog. Stop by and visit him if y'all get a chance.
There's not much that's exciting here and I really need to get outta here so this is
short. I want to get around and get caught up on y'all and yes, I have to do a couple more errands!
Here's wishing y'all a Happy New Year's!!!!!!! I hope you spend it in the way you like best!!!!!!

Yet Another Day in Paradise Ramblings
It's another 'fun' week in Kay's World. Miss Ruby decided on Sunday that she would not move another day so that left me with a problem. The ex called and I mentioned that she wasn't well and he offered to take me to my appointments on Monday. Amazing.
* Christmas was Christmas. Bryce and Gracie came over and brought me flowers and a bottle of wine from John and Michelle -- perfect because I love both and really don't need anymore stuff.
They liked their gifts and that's good. My nutty neighbor stopped over for Kay's Killer Eggnog and brought me a sweater. I was sorta upset about that because we aren't that close. My son surprised me by calling but I didn't get to talk to Drake and Connor but he said they were delighted with their gifts. Oh well, I usually call him so that was some progress. One takes one's blessings where one finds them.
* Monday was doctor day and the ex picked me up and took me up there. I had my counseling appointment and I've just about decided that I'm not going to continue it. I love my counselor but I am not getting any answers. Next I saw Dr. Maria and my blood work came back with a new wrinkle: high sugar. I just shrugged and told her that I'd fix it -- a couple diet changes and I'll be back to normal. She looked at my foot and said I had obviously taken care of it very well because it looks great and getting better and continue with the meds and elevation. She reminded me that it's mammogram time and I'll be doing that in a couple weeks. The ex took me to get a scrip refilled and decided that we should go for a late lunch at the excellent Greek restaurant near my place. It's an excellent yum. They always give you too much food so I'm still eating it. It was an interesting time. The ex and I talked a lot. I'm glad, given our nasty divorce, that we can act like grownups.
* I've decided that my shopping list next Christmas is probably going to be shorrtened. People who don't call and say "thank you" don't get gifts. They have two weeks to do so.
* My doctor's nurse called yesterday and it seems that my counselor asked Dr. Maria to prescribe an anti-depressant. If you have read here long enough, y'all know that I don't do anti-depressants because I get weird side effects from most of them. Frankly, any depression that I might have cannot be cured with pills. She came up with one I'm not familiar with so I said I'd try it. What do y'all know about Lexapro? It will probably wind up with all the other such meds that don't work.
* Miss Ruby is at the car doctor and I'm not sure when she's coming home. The only thing I'm sure of is that I'm going to be replenishing my stash 'cause it's not gonna be cheap and that I'm stuck here for the next couple days. Sigh. It's okay. I have plenty to do here.
* There were a couple comments re: handicaps and ramifications thereof and I do appreciate them. Kvetching is part of how I cope. I know how to survive anything that comes my way in that department as I've been handicapped for over 30 years. Y'all can read about it here. It's best if you read it from the oldest the newest and you'll understand me a bit better. I simply get hyper when what I've worked so hard for gets threatened. I forget that not all y'all have been with me from the beginning. And yeah, I need to bring it up to date.
* I did a little blog housekeeping and I am mostly happy with it. Whaddaya think?
Hope y'all are having a great day!!!!!
Happy Blogging!!!

Quick Note
Senator Bernie Sanders ended his filibuster at 7 p.m. EDT. He stood loud and proud for nearly nine hours speaking logically and eloquently about the bill that gives billions to people who don't need it and ignores the ordinary people who are suffering greatly from the policies the GOP espouses. If you didn't get a chance to see any of Bernie's filibuster, here's a two-minute clip from YouTube that sort of gives the gist of what Bernie had to say!

Update Etc.
Just some quick notes and a couple videos I think y'all will enjoy.
* I hope that I'm going to be feeling better soon. I called Dr. Maria and talked to her nurse and she called back to tell me that a scrip for an antibiotic would be waiting for me at my pharmacy. Hallelujah!!!
* I'm still fighting bureaucracy -- the agency in question is nutty. I'm ready to go viral on this. I -- unlike a lot of others -- always make sure that I have my paperwork in order and I did. THEY obviously made a mistake when sending my info to AEP and I'll be damned if I stand in the cold for hours to wait for them -- especially since I'm not well.
* This is fabulous and definitely worth your time. Rachel plays 'Pin the Tail on the Debt' and you'll be surprised at the results. So much for 'fiscal responsibility'
* Does anyone but me think Dancing with the Stars has lost any credibility it ever had due to the Palinbots' downright cheating? And somehow I don't think being an unwed mother makes you a star no matter who your mama is. And yeah, I think she's preggers again -- her face is fuller and there's a definite bump. Most contestants lose weight doing that show. So much for abstinence. And I don't watch the show -- I watch the news clips.
* Here's the latest song rattling around my brain this week. I always liked The 5th Dimension -- they had a great energy and always looked like they were having a lot of fun. Back in the day my friends and I thought this song terrific. It brings back memories of when life was less complicated. It can still get me out of my chair to boogie a little! LOL Enjoy!!!!
