Hypocrisy Thy Name is Mitt

When you live in Toledo, Ohio -- especially on the north side of town -- it's really sort of strange. Most of your television and media comes from Michigan and shopping trips across the border were common. The neighborhood where I grew up in the '50s was less than five miles from the border and my dad had a friend whose house straddled the border and joked that he slept with his feet in Michigan and his brain in Ohio.

The point of this is that I remember George Romney as a rather popular Governor of Michigan. He was known as a liberal Republican -- a term that has obviously gone the way of the dinosaur.

Here's a video that I hope will go viral that speaks volumes about Mitt and I can't help but feel that his parents would be ashamed of their son's hypocrisy -- not to mention the path that the Republican Party has taken.

New Stuff

An ancient Chinese curse is "May you live in interesting times." The first time I heard it many decades ago, I was a tad confused by it. Today we're living it and I understand it completely. If times get any more interesting, I might just have a breakdown and I don't think I'm alone in that. Here are some of the most interesting things I've seen lately:

* In the wake of Virginia's intrusive vaginal probe laws, State Senator Nina Turner (D-Cleveland) of the great State of Ohio, introduced Ohio Senate bill 307 in the Ohio Senate. Several other women legislators have proposed variations in Virginia and Here's the the short video -- there are long versions on YouTube:



I saw "Game Change" -- the story of Sarah Palin and the 2008 election -- the other
and it was horrifying and fascinating all at once. Word on it is that it's well-rooted in truth -- check out YouTube for interviews. Here's the trailer:



Last night I attended a screening of "The Road We've Traveled" -- Obama's campaign film -- at our county's Democratic Party's headquarters. I made lots of new friends
and was gratified to see and meet many enthusiastic elders eager to participate in the campaign. If nothing else, I'm gonna have fun this fall -- I love campaigning and meeting new friends. The movie is very well done and showcases President Obama's accomplishments as well as the many problems of the the past four years as one would expect. It's short -- less than twenty minutes. I checked and it's on YouTube as I type this and y'all can see it here. The Republicans -- Wow! What a shock! -- are already calling it 'a deception'.

Still Crabby but Keepin' On . . .

I'm still pretty crabby.  However, in the midst of yesterday's doldrums I received an invite from the Democratic party to see a screening of Obama's campaign film: The Road We've Traveled  tomorrow evening so I'm gonna drag myself out to see it. Some call it 'political propaganda' -- like the GOP doesn't indulge in that sort of thing. (Yeah . . . right)  I'll let George Strait sing my response to those damn fools -- I hope y'all enjoy it. And if you're interested, check with your local Democratic Party.

Post Primary and Assorted Other Thoughts

I have come down with a nasty cold. So far, no fever but I'm all stuffed up and a tad froggy,  I prolly should call Dr. Maria or Dr. Dave because of my forth-coming surgery. I got a letter from the latter this morning telling me that I have to have an arteriogram (a new one on me) soon and they gave me a tentative date and info for my surgery later this month. I really need to call them in the morning.   Sigh.

The Ohio primary is still very much in the news and I've a few things that came in that I want to share with y'all.  I hope you enjoy them.

* I think that y'all know that as the daughter, sister, ex-wife, and mother of a vet (etc.),  I support our troops and veterans.  I  get  the newsletter from votevets.org  and the most recent issue asked me to sign a petition to get Rush Limbaugh off Armed Forces radio on that Rush was disrespectful to all women in the Sandra Fluke debacle -- and specifically the women of the military. If you agree, go over and lend your support by signing it.   Thanks in advance.

* I know I  mentioned that the Republicans in the Statehouse gerrymandered our congressional districts horribly.  One of the worst examples took place this week with a tough race between two of my favorite Congress Critters:  Marcy Kaptur of Toledo and Dennis Kucinich of Cleveland. And that, gentle bloggers demonstrates graphically how heinous the redistricting was.  It was a pretty tough race and Dennis disappointed me by getting awfully nasty.  Marcy won and will be running against that idiot that Sarah Palin  adopted in the 2008 campaign, Joe the Plumber.  I think Marcy will win handily.  We need her progressive voice.

If you want me to take you seriously, don't hide.

* There's been a lot of criticism of Matt Taibbi's obituary of Andrew Breitbart whose venom was never my cuppa. Mr.Taibbi's obit was downright tame compared to Breitbart's eulogy on Ted Kennedy.  

* John Kasich has pretty  much sealed his fate as a one term governor. In the wake of the devastating tornadoes that struck southwestern Ohio he initially refused federal aid which would have excluded home owners from getting help in re-building/repairing their homes. He has since requested that aid but as my grandpa would have said:  "You can't un-ring a bell."

* Martin Bashir calls out Mitt Romney: Limbaugh's lunacy succinctly (about 2.5 minutes) and eloquently:.

And in conclusion, on Super Tuesday, over 547,000 Ohioans came out and cast their ballots for an uncontested Barack Obama. I'm proud to have been one of them.

Surprise! Surprise!

I've been meaning to write about this for the last week but the idiocies on the GOP side -- notably Rush (who Al Franken called a big fat idiot) -- have distracted all of us from the Super Tuesday of which the Great State of Ohio will participate.

I shouldn't have been surprised when I got a call from a pollster who wanted to know how I was going to cast my ballot but I'm always surprised anyway. I answered the very nice lady who had the good taste to laugh at my jokes (lol) and as we were ending my interview, in a rare display of clarity, I asked her what polling organization she represented. I laughed my head off when she said, "Quinnipiac."  

If y'all are like me, you always wonder when you hear the media refer to the polls, you wonder who answers these poll. Well, now you have the answer: people like me. Now that may scare some of y'all and gratify others. Either way, I thought it interesting and pretty cool.

Gotta take my Election Day walk down to the American Legion post to cast my ballot.

Bill Maher Gets it Right and Gets Censored!

Just a Quick Update and a Couple Funnies!!!

I've been a very busy old girl! Visits to the Shrink (yes, what Hemingway called the Black Dog has been camped here for a while) and Dr. Maria were in order as well as my annual inspection by the good folks who help pay my rent which is always my excuse to do all the stuff I have been ignoring/neglecting. My place looks pretty dang good but I still have a few things that I need to do -- the new curtains in my kitchen, den and bathroom really brightened things up (blessings to Bryce for his invaluable help). That said, I'm taking today to do my best to get around and visit y'all. Thanks to Friko for a mental hotfoot. Keeping up with all y'all is, at times difficult as the 'follow' list keeps growing, as has my channel's subscription list on YouTube, and as has the list of newsletters that I read as well. (I don't vlog -- just follow some channels I like a lot.)

That said, I'll be around to visit as many of y'all as I can -- barring the ever-ubiquitous interruptions!!!

Just a Quick Note on Iowa

I was appalled at the outcome of the Iowa Caucuses. Ron Paul's love of the Constitution and strong anti-war stance is interesting until he starts going of the deep end. Mitt Romney believes that corporations are people and flip flops on everything else. Rick (don't google my last name) Santorum comes across as a moralist until you see the nasty stuff he's been involved in before his district in Pennsylvania kicked his lying, hypocritical, amoral asker out (check out Rachel here). God must have loved hypocrites -- he made so many of them.

Happy New Year 2012

Here we go again!!!! It's 2012, in which I'll reach my 65th year on this poor beleaguered planet and it will be interesting and filled with back-biting, in-fighting, and downright lies as the elections approach. I have a strong urge to head for my bed with about five pounds of my favorite chocolate and pull the covers over my head only to emerge when it's all over. I think y'all know that won't happen but it is tempting. Instead, I'm going to campaign for the Democrats. And yeah, I've already signed on to help.

My wish for our country in 2012 is a modicum of civility, compassion, common sense and sanity return to our country but again. I'll prolly be disappointed and, for sure I wouldn't bet the ranch on it. Some people weren't taught to play well with others. My son the coach has always told his swimmers: "There is no 'I' in 'team'!" and I think if our representatives ascribed to that they would accomplish more.

My wishes for myself are more complicated on various deeply personal levels and, most likely in vain so I'm not gonna go there and just hope I have your support in my struggles down that path.

My wish for y'all in 2012 is that y'all have all the good things and the strength to handle the inevitable potholes in the often rocky road of life. Know that I'll be here for you to celebrate your triumphs and lend a shoulder when/if you need it.

Post-Holiday Thoughts -- Crabby and Otherwise

I'm behind on blogging. I just haven't had the energy to do that. I do try to keep up with y'all and comment but I'm in my usual post-holiday crabbiness so please forgive me.

* Christmas was less than stellar -- I'm just not comfortable with others' family. If it had been Michelle, her mom, and the kids, it would have been okay. I'm more and more of the mind that I just going to spend Christmas by myself. My son actually returned my call but, as usual, I didn't get to talk to the boys. And there wasn't so much as a thank you for the gifts I sent. That annoys me because I sacrifice to send them and I know my son knows that and he was taught better manners than that. I mentioned that his dad and I talk and he didn't like that much to which I say, "Grow up!!!!! In fact, his dad stopped by the day after Christmas to update a program for me and took me to lunch and said, "Like it's really any of his business what we do or don't do." I'm not a hater and refuse to stay mad at anyone forever -- hate eats one's soul.

* Have the Iowa Causes been going on forever? Will they ever end? It's not even 2012 yet and I'm tired of Election 2012? I can only imagine how I'll feel next year at this time. It's gonna be ugly no matter who the GOP nominates to run against Obama. Sigh.

* We still haven't had any appreciable snow here in Ohio. There was a bit yesterday but as near as I can tell, we haven't had an inch. Maybe -- just maybe -- I'm starting to believe in global warming. Ask me in a month when I'm buried under six inches of 'partly cloudy'!!! (Huge grin)

* I'm not going to make any New Year's resolutions -- as usual. At this point, my bad habits are pretty much ingrained and something I learned about myself is that I tend to drop them when I'm ready not because someone else (e.g., a doctor) mandates it. I notice that one may be going by the wayside yesterday but we shall see what happens.

* I think I've mentioned that my dad loved to sing and I swear he knew the lyrics to every single song of the Big Band era. Here's one of his favorites sung by one of my favorites . . . Diana Krall does it so well!!! Enjoy!!!

Turkey Afterthoughts

Hope y'all had a great Thanksgiving!!!! All I'm going to say about mine is that the food was excellent.

* There isn't enough money on the planet to get me out shopping on Black Friday. Christmas shopping is going to be very limited at my house. I only do gifts for children these days. Michelle asked me what I want for Christmas and I told her that if she bought me anything, I'd spank her. I really don't need/want anything. What I really need is to get rid of some stuff.

* From my 'They're At It Again' department: I've been busy with various projects including signing the petition to repeal the HB 319 which gerrymamders Ohio into 12 Republican districts and 4 Democratic districts. Ohio is a is not a 'red' state; we are a 'purple' state and this bill does not reflect how we vote and if y'all think we can't do it, recall our stellar repeal oh the union-busting bill last month. These idiots don't learn, do they? I also signed up to work on Election 2012. I hope we get the same excellent response on this. Y'all can read about it here.

* I just had a visit from a couple well-dressed Republicans who wanted to explain to me how the Bible applies to the world today. I think y'all (and God) will forgive me for being crabby with them. I'm getting a "We are the 99%" sign for my yard in hopes that that it will act as a repellent again these visits.

* Here's a clip from an email I received from our not so beloved, soon to be one-term governor, John Kasich who, like Scott Walker of Wisconsin, would be sweating out a recall if we had it.

"I'm personally thankful for having been able to announce in the past two weeks that Ohio is helping to create almost 2,000 new jobs for Ohioans. Overall in 2011, Ohio has worked with small, medium and large-sized businesses to create more than 15,000 new jobs for Ohioans. That's more than 15,000 families who will have a better, brighter future. We've still got work to do, but it's exciting to see Ohio beginning to get back on track."

My response?  Puh-lease!!!!!  9.1% of of Ohioans are unemployed and that's a false figure because it's based on the the number of people collecting unemployment and blithely ignores the thousands of Ohioans whose benefits have run out. That he sent this is an insult to me and my fellow Ohioans.  How stupid does he think we are?  Never mind.

* Today Ohio State Buckeyes play their big rivalry game vs. the University of Michigan Wolverines so I'll be glued to the television this afternoon.  We haven't had a stellar season but  long-time fans know that that's immaterial to this game -- anything can happen and it probably will.  And here's the Best Damned Band in the Land doing their signature 'Script Ohio' routine -- always amazing.  The honor of dotting the 'i' goes to the most senior tuba player.  I never get tired of it.  I can't imagine strutting carrying a tuba -- they are heavy!!! Enjoy!!!!

Random Cranky Thoughts

The late great humorist, Will Rogers,  used to say "All I know is what I read in the papers."  I understand that. Today he would  have to say 'the media' with the advent of all the varied ways we received information. The past week we've seen lots of  things that are simply batsh*t crazy going on in the world and Kay's World has been pretty nutty as well. Needless to say, it's putting my poor damaged brain in an uproar and putting me in Cranky Old Broad mode.

* I have a bright red, shiny new cell phone that does all sorts of crazy stuff that's basically useless as far as I'm concerned and the damned manual might as well be written in Greek.  I don't text. I don't tweet. I don't feel a burning need to check my email on my phone. When I'm traveling, I have a cute lil' Acer notebook and all I have to do is stop at a place with free wi-fi if I feel a burning need for an internet fix which is relatively rare. I love y'all but sometimes I need a break from cyber space. All my cell is for is when I'm not home  calls and the free long distance which comes in handy with so many out-of-town friends and family.

* I'm absolutely thrilled at the implosions in the Herman Cain (sexual harassment) and Rick Perry (drunk/stoned/whatever).  Neither had any interest for me.  Cain demonstrated a profound ignorance before the scandal and Perry gave credence to why Texas Aggie jokes exist.  Either would be a disaster for our stature on the world stage. Y'all can see Perry's embarrassing performance here. Let's just say that the snowball's chance in hell that I'd had of voting for him melted.

* Highlight of my day:  I picked up Gracie from school today so she could attend a neighborhood friend's Halloween party. The downside is I was to help her with homework if needed. I don't understand how they teach math these days so I hope it was okay.

* I saw Dr. Maria last week and we're going to explore some new options for me after she gets a report from Dr. Jody -- who I see on Thursday -- and I think/hope she fixed the ear that keeps clogging up. If not, I'll be seeing a Ear, Nose & Throat guy -- like I don't have enough doctors already. I'll be interested in see/hearing about what the blood work shows as well as the EMG results. God knows it will be something weird. It always is. Sigh.

* Democracy for America sent me a very cool bumper sticker that reads: UNIONS=JOBS which Miss Ruby will wear with pride. Cool, huh?

* I had a weird phone call from polling organization for an unnamed political organization asking me to participate in a survey and in return I would receive a Caribbean cruise courtesy of a contributor to said organization. Bogus, huh? This smacks of dirty tricks to me so I hung up.

A Running Mate for Bernie?

Still feeling awful but trying hard to get around to visit y'all. (Pain hurts!)  I spent over two hours transcribing this for those of you who prefer text.  Typing one-handed is not easy! Please forgive any errors


I think I found a running mate for Bernie Sanders!




"Mr. Speaker, almost no one in Washington is talking about jobs. For two months now both chambers of Congress have been locked down in talking about the debt ceiling. Meanwhile, if you take a look at the Bush years, America lost almost 8 million jobs in the largest recession since the Great Depression and we've only gotten back about 2 million -- 2 million, creating jobs at a rate of 120,000 a month. That is far from where we need to head.

But rather than this Congress engage in intelligent dialogue on how to create jobs, we keep going down these side roads to nowhere -- to no where. Meanwhile unemployment just went up another 10,000 jobs. Every member in both chambers will be judged on not doing the work that the people want us to do. And that is to focus on how to use the power of the federal government to create jobs If you take a look at what the Republican majority in the House wants to do, they want to cut unemployment benefits. That's not even understandable to any rational person. They want to cut food.

I invite any one of them to come to my district. Come and stand in the food lines. See how it feels. Better yet, help us pack some of the bags and then distribute them and give them to veterans who are coming home from the wars who don't have jobs. Then ask yourself, "What are you really doing here?" "What are you doing here?"

What about health benefits for people who have fallen out of work and they don't have anymore benefits for their family? Why should we cut there? Some people like to proclaim proudly about being pro-life. Pro-life doesn't only involve the period before a child is born; it involves the entire life of a person -- a human being -- until natural death. These are philosophical questions that our members ought to be asking themselves about helping the American people at this critical point in our history.

Now, all of us want to produced balanced budgets. When you have full employment, you have balanced budgets and you get extra; you can pay down your long-term. You don't hear anything up here being talked about jobs. If it were happening, we'd have more job creation. We have less job creation. More people are going on unemployment benefits so the conversation is totally off base.

Let's just look at one sector where America and federal government could save money. America spends almost 250 billion dollars on prescription drugs and nearly a third of that is paid for my the federal government which means our people paying taxes -- when they work!

Let's look at that pharmaceutical industry. Now some of my colleagues on the other side of the aisle say: "Cut Social Security! Cut Medicare!" They don't talk about trimming the excess profits of the pharmaceutical companies and you know what? They're not paying their fair share into the federal till!

Let's just look at one bag of Heperin (sp?) in a hospital for which Medicare winds up paying $600. $600!!!!!!

(More about how the pharmaceutical companies are -- and subsequently, us -- raping our government omitted).

Why doesn't the federal use it's purchasing power to get better bids on these drugs and have competitive bidding in order to purchase? We did that in the 1990s; we haven't done it since. There's plenty of ways to get the funds to try to balance the budget but the most important way is to help Americans back to work."

I'm still exhausted and trying to rest and get caught up.  I honestly think that I'm losing/have lost my mind with this stuff. I saw Dr. Maria yesterday and she just told me to rest. Whatever this stuff is, it's weird and I can't begin to explain it.

was posted there this morning. I like this idea but I kinda don't think it would work but it would nice.

I've been trying to get caught up on all y'all as well as working around the house and trying to adjust to new medication. That the sun is shining really helps!
