I had a couple notes on the Blogger login post so I toddled back to see what nitecruzr had to say and y'all can check it here. It can't hurt and if it saves anyone from having to move their blog, it's worth the time. As I've learned in the 20+ years I've been online, change often just means trading one set of problems for another set of problems. The exception is my recent change to Firefox which appears to have eliminated a really nasty problem that was putting me and my techie ex crazy. No it's not perfect but it is much better and that's as good as it gets in the world of computers. And who knows? It may have saved me from the problems y'all are having!

Yikes!!!!!!!!!
My computer crashed yesterday so I won't be posting or visiting y'all until I get it working properly again. I've been fighting with The Blue Screen of Death lately and all my best efforts have been to no avail and I had to call in reinforcements for my no-tech brain. I guess we're going to be backing up and re-formatting the hard drive or some such so it's just another day in paradise. No one promised me that life would be easy so I'll get through it and hopefully learn something new. Hope y'all are having a great day!!!!! I hope to be up and running tomorrow! And I hopr this posts properly.

Geeeeeeeez
It's the wee hours and I'm having connection problems. They started after I upgraded to IE 8 a few weeks ago but also appear if I use Firefox. More specifically, I'm having problems with mostly Blogger and Blogger blogs as well as with other sites. I spent a LOT of time with AT&T with their tech support in New Delhi or somesuch and they were basically useless. Now it's nearly 5 am. I ran all my anti-virus and anti-spyware, adware and malware programs and nothing appears to be amiss. I reset IE and assorted other nonsense. Blogger is mostly useless if one needs help. I'm fresh out of options and or solutions. I am tired and angry and disappointed. I hope I can at least get this post online. Suggestions/Assistance are welcome.
Here's my congressman, John Boccieri, again on the threats of violence by a certain element who call themselves Christians in our country (I've decided that I will no longer mention them by name as it gives them a credibility they do not merit but I think y'all will get my drift.). Not Quite What I Was Planning
This weekend has been a lot different than I thought. I really thought I was going to have time to do some blog housekeeping and wander around the blogosphere to see y'all but instead, because the snow stopped, I've been off and running to get things done that I postponed because of that white stuff. My DVD broke and I had to go find a replacement. (Please pause while I, the technology-impaired, pat myself on the back for installing it properly the first time.) While I was at it, I also picked up some other things I needed.
I also need prescriptions refilled and groceries because I have to start fasting tomorrow for my test on Tuesday. I don't eat much usually but tell me I can't eat and suddenly I'm starving to death. And I'm not allowed to drive after my test so I'll need something in the cupboard. God bless Diane for getting up early and taking me to the test. I'm getting really tired of tests but blessedly, I'm almost done for a while -- there's only two more (I think/hope). So far nothing new has been discovered -- hallelujah!!! Then again, I wish they would figure out why I feel so lousy.

It's Always Something!!!!!
Busy week already! Always an adventure in the wonderful world of The Kay! I'm taking a break from doing my taxes. I don't owe anything -- at least I don't think I do. It's getting all my junk together that puts me crazy.
* I called my son on Sunday and I still haven't heard from him. Either they went to Jen's folks' house in Illinois or he's not returning my call for God knows what reason. I'm not going to begin to guess. I'm just tired of the crap.
* I did get to talk with my stepmother on Sunday. She was delighted that I called. And she asked if I would come to Toledo the first week in June to help celebrate her 80th birthday and meet her daughter who is coming in from New Mexico. She thinks we need to meet. I said I'd be happy to come up and thanked her for inviting me. My next trick is budgeting the funds because I'll need to stay over. It will be nice to get away for a day or so. I just hate driving on the Turnpike. The good news is Barb has a whole boxful of my dad's pictures and his stuff for me.
* Easter Sunday was capped by a trip to ER. I took a dish I had nuked for a late supper. (I'd not eaten all day -- except for jelly beans.) and I was moving it and spilled sauce all over my left hand and screamed. Ran it under cold water for five minutes and it was blistering in spots so I pulled up Mayo Clinic's site and it said that I needed to get it looked at. Soooooooo it was after 11 o'clock and I'm in tears from pain and driving myself to ER. If had been my right hand, I wouldn't have been able to drive. As it was, I was a very nervous girl until I arrived safely at the hospital. They took care of me quickly and covered the worst of it -- my thumb -- with ointment and bandaged me up thoroughly like so . . .
I'm not as good with the gauze as they are and changing the dressing is no fun. I hope it heals fast. It's a nuisance.
* I did want to mention that I've gotten some messages from a couple tech sites' newsletters that I get that there are some really nasty viruses and worms floating around out there so I want to urge all of you to make sure you have all of your anti-virus, anti-spyware/malware and anti-adware programs updated as well as your Windows security updates and run them every single week. I know it's a hassle but it beats getting the Blue Screen of Death or somesuch. If you don't have such software (Yikes!!!!!!!), drop me a note and I'll give you the links to get some good, totally free software that keeps a 'puter up and running. I set aside about an hour or two a week on routine maintenance where I update programs and run the protection software. Even so, I picked up a bug the other day at MSN games and Spybot caught it and killed it. Hallelujah!!! And it proves that even the safest sites can get infected by the pond scum of the 'Net. Y'all be careful out there!!!!!
* Thanks to all y'all for all the nice words about my new photo which really isn't new; it's about a year old. It was taken at the Henry Ford Estate and had I known there was gonna be a photo shoot, I'd have put on makeup and put more time into my hair. LOL! Someone left a comment that I didn't look old enough to be an Elderblogger which prompted me to change photos. I haven't many photos of me. I'm the one who takes pictures -- I don't usually appear in them, However, I do hope to get a couple newer ones.
I'm still messing with my identity stuff -- it's seemingly endless!!!! Hope y'all are having a great week!!!!! I'm hanging tough and I know I'll be fine and thinking about it brought to mind an old favorite of mine from a favorite movie that always makes me smile. Enjoy!!!!

An Announcement, A Victory and Random Thoughts
I probably won't be doing much here for the next week or so. Yeah, the groaners will be here as usual but not much else. Yesterday I had to remove myself from my own party because I got hit with a huge panic attack that invited, what Hemingway called, "the Black Dog" to come out of the shadows where he lurks on the fringe of my so-called life. I'm not sure what triggered it: the weather, the endless cold or some such that I'm fighting, the upcoming holiday season or just my life in general. After the gals helped me clean up yesterday, I put myself to bed and stayed there and cried and slept. I didn't go to the victory party.
My phones have been ringing all morning and I haven't answered either. I think I need to do some serious thinking about Life, the Universe and Everything and where and if I fit into any of it. I am, however, going to be writing a couple segments on my other blog: How I Got to Be Me. If y'all choose to read them, you'll see why in addition to the fact that I've been ignoring it far too long.

I am, however, going to be writing a couple segments on my other blog: How I Got to Be Me. If y'all choose to read them, you'll see why in addition to the fact that I've been ignoring it far too long.
It was a grey and frigid day in Ohio but the football gods were obviously in Columbus as the Ohio State Buckeyes kicked the you -know-what out of the University of Michigan's Wolverines 42-7. I was particularly proud that the young man in the picture above, Brian Hartline, contributed two touchdowns to the win. He is an an alumni of the suburban high school my children attended. (Actually, I attended it, too, but explaining that is 'way too complicated and irrelevant to this post.) We were whooping and hollering big time all afternoon. And no, beer was not the beverage du jour except to celebrate the win. Coffee was! The food was great and was pretty much what I expected -- isn't it funny how everyone has "signature" dishes they make for various parties? At any rate, we were well-fed and happy and our guys won -- definitely a good day!!! Thanks to all of y'all for your support!
* My blog layout is a mess. I did some updating and now my sidebar is stuck at the bottom of the page. I'm trying all sorts of things to get it back where it belongs. Blogger help, as usual, is helpless as is their support group. Advice and assistance is needed desperately. "Techie" is not a word that applies to me so any and all input/advice would be welcome.
* The turkey slaughter video (I refuse to dignify it by linking it -- if you haven't seen it and are curious, go to YouTube and search for it.) with Sarah Palin was, at best, tacky. How she could be so oblivious to what was going on around her again demonstrated that her thirst for power and attention overrides any sense of propriety or decency she may. This should be a red flag to anyone with a working brain cell left. I think she's like a gory bad accident -- you can't help but look when you drive it. Look for a press conference of her making excuses for herself. And my question is: Why in the hell are we still being bombarded with her? You lost, Sarah!!! The 15 minutes of fame that Andy Warhol promised over!!!! Get over it! And to the press: give it up --she lost the election for McCain!! The majority of your viewers don't like her and are sick of your enchantment with her.

Quick Note
Frustration rules!!!!!!!!! I spent most of yesterday doing maintenance on my computer -- including a couple hours on the telephone with Dell. Don't ask me what happened but the major cleaning I did here destroyed some drivers and I had to download a boatload of stuff and all I did was move my computer so I could dust properly.
Today I am on the verge of screaming because my photos won't upload the way I want them because Adobe Photoshop Starter Edition has me stuck in something called "Calendar View" and won't tell me how to just see a folder. I've never had this problem before.
I am not a happy camper and am ready to blow up this piece of you-know what.
I think I'm going back to bed and pull the covers over my head!
What good is this stuff if it doesn't do what you want/need it to do? Picasa annoyed me, too.
I hate technology!!!!

Random Sunday Thoughts
It's Sunday and the Kay's mind is reeling. It's been a wicked week. Part of it is my own damned fault because I've done a couple hair-brained things; part of it is that I'm not feeling well. Maybe one has something to do with the other. Whatever the cause, I'm not having much fun.
* I had some nasty chest pains yesterday evening and that made me nervous. Fortunately, they went away after I took some of my meds for panic attacks. Don't know if that was the right thing to do but it worked.
* I, like some of y'all, have had problems with Blogger's spelling checker not working. If you would like to report it you may do so here. Just click on the blue 'Report' button. They do know about it but if we all keep after them, maybe they will get it fixed more quickly. I don't have a problem with spelling but I do have a problem with typos.
* I found a really neat blog called Tips for New Bloggers that has all sorts of great, helpful stuff about Blogger. I think it's great for those of us who have been around awhile -- especially people like me who are technologically challenged.
* I made a phone call to someone I shouldn't have and it's left me somewhat bereft. It reminded me of some emotional pain I'd been ignoring. It's not always a good idea to do things like that. Sometimes you really don't need to know things.
* It was a relatively nice day yesterday after a week of nasty weather. So why did I sit here like a bump on a log?
* I did a Happiness Audit when I visited my friend, the Executive Happiness Coach at his site. My work is cut out for me.
* Here's some video from everybody's favorite YouTuber, geriatric1927. It includes an update on The Zimmers and what they've been doing! Enjoy!

Arrrrrrrrrggggggggghhhhhhh!!!!!!!
I decided this morning that I was determined to get my new computer up and running today. Now I'm wondering why. Sigh.
I've decided that there are reasons I have a love/hate relationship with new computers. First, you have to figure out what needs to be saved and transferred to the new computer. Then you have to figure out all the other stuff like how to hook everything up. AND then you have to do all this you-know-what. And to top it all off, I get to learn Vista! We are not amused.
Right now Kay is turning the air here a lovely shade of blue. If you're a non-techie like me, all this is, at best, confusing and you need help. Dell's highly-touted support is at best overwhelming and I'll be damned if I can get hold of anyone without 87 numbers that I can't find anywhere -- just to get to ask a simple question!
What I'm saying here is that I am trying to set up my new computer and I might even get it done sometime in this century! I just sent a 911 email to Winston and hopefully he can tell me what I need to know about connecting the DSL stuff. Dell didn't send me a manual -- just disks. Sigh. Needless to say I am more than mildly annoyed -- a gross understatement at best.
Soooooo gentle blogging friends, if the Groaner of the Week doesn't appear tomorrow, it's because I'm lost in the wilds of Installation Land looking for a handsome prince to save me. Hell! I'll settle for a big nasty-looking toad if he knows his stuff! He might even get a kiss!
See y'all if/when I ever surface!!!!!!!!!!

The Kay Is Proud of Herself!!!!!!!
It's been a very difficult few weeks -- and I'm sparing a good portion of the gory details -- so what do I decide to do? I decide that because I've been frugal and have a couple extra bucks that I deserve more memory in my computer and that the Technical Moron, namely me, is going to install it. Sounds like a scenario from hell, huh?
Well, I called the ex and asked questions about what I needed for RAM, etc. since he built it for me, at our son's request, out of pieces parts the latter no longer needed. Good stuff since I wound up with a newer, faster computer last summer and WindowsXP to boot.
I'm a lot better with software than I used to be but installing stuff inside the case intimidates me but the ex explained in fairly simple terms how to put in new memory and I thought that perhaps I really could do it. He also promised he would help if I needed it. Silly me for believing that.
At lunch time today, I toddled down to my computer guy and told him what I needed and he said, "No problem!" and assured me that if it didn't work, I could bring it back. So I handed over my debit card for a 256 stick of RAM. He told me to remember Rule #1 and I promised I would.
I came home from work and logged on to check my mail before attempting this somewhat daunting task. (I know you guys are probably rolling on the floor at my calling that but I-- and a lot of other gals, didn't take engineering or even shop.) I shut down my computer and performed Rule #1: UNPLUG THE POWER SUPPLY, Then I pulled out my trusty Phillips screwdriver and took the cover off the case.
I got out my shiny new stick of memory and started looking high and low for something that looked just like it to no avail! Finally, I decided to look under the tangle of wires and ribbon thingys and voila! there was a stick of memory clipped in and a slot for more memory right next to it. Easy, you say? Au contraire, mon ami! One must seat the memory just so and then one must get these cute little white clips snapped into the properly seated memory's notches at either end. Seating wasn't difficult -- I didn't throw great dinner parties for nothin' lol -- but getting the clips in place was tricky. Finishing touches always are. The first, easily accessible clip just popped right in but the clip at the other end was, of course, in a very tight spot and she-of -not-so-nimble-fingers couldn't get the damned thing to snap in place no matter how much I cursed it. (Blush! Yeah, I forgot I'm a lady. Sigh.) I finally walked away and decided to let it rest a bit.
I watched a little TV and went back and tried again and turned the air a lovely shade of blue. Called the ex who had assured me that he would be available to help and he wasn't. Soooo I decided I HAD to get serious about this and get the job done so I could whine here. lol
And guess what? My fumbling fingers finally got it right!!! That obstinate little white clip snapped right in place. After shouting, "Amen and Hallelujah!", I put the cover back on my 'puter and fired it up and here I am with 512 RAM. I know others have it in the thousands but this is what I need for what I do and I am smiling because I accomplished something I didn't think I could do. I think a short visit with good old Samuel Adams is in order.
And I learned something new today and a cornerstone of my philosophy is that: Any day I learn something new, it's a good day. And lately, good days have been hard to come by.

Well, I called the ex and asked questions about what I needed for RAM, etc. since he built it for me, at our son's request, out of pieces parts the latter no longer needed. Good stuff since I wound up with a newer, faster computer last summer and WindowsXP to boot.
I'm a lot better with software than I used to be but installing stuff inside the case intimidates me but the ex explained in fairly simple terms how to put in new memory and I thought that perhaps I really could do it. He also promised he would help if I needed it. Silly me for believing that.
At lunch time today, I toddled down to my computer guy and told him what I needed and he said, "No problem!" and assured me that if it didn't work, I could bring it back. So I handed over my debit card for a 256 stick of RAM. He told me to remember Rule #1 and I promised I would.
I came home from work and logged on to check my mail before attempting this somewhat daunting task. (I know you guys are probably rolling on the floor at my calling that but I-- and a lot of other gals, didn't take engineering or even shop.) I shut down my computer and performed Rule #1: UNPLUG THE POWER SUPPLY, Then I pulled out my trusty Phillips screwdriver and took the cover off the case.
I got out my shiny new stick of memory and started looking high and low for something that looked just like it to no avail! Finally, I decided to look under the tangle of wires and ribbon thingys and voila! there was a stick of memory clipped in and a slot for more memory right next to it. Easy, you say? Au contraire, mon ami! One must seat the memory just so and then one must get these cute little white clips snapped into the properly seated memory's notches at either end. Seating wasn't difficult -- I didn't throw great dinner parties for nothin' lol -- but getting the clips in place was tricky. Finishing touches always are. The first, easily accessible clip just popped right in but the clip at the other end was, of course, in a very tight spot and she-of -not-so-nimble-fingers couldn't get the damned thing to snap in place no matter how much I cursed it. (Blush! Yeah, I forgot I'm a lady. Sigh.) I finally walked away and decided to let it rest a bit.
