Y'all know I was planning an MLK post for today. However, instead I'm posting in support of the many sites (e.g., Wikipedia) that are shut down today. Google is still up but its name is blacked out in support of the protest of SOPA and PIPA and y'all can learn more and sign a petition here. Firefox is also on board and y'all can read more here. These bills are about greed, intellectual freedom, intrusive government and limiting web access. Sites like Wikipedia and YouTube would be decimated and many, many jobs (Hello? Does this smack of corporate greed?) would be lost. You or I could be sued or fined or even imprisoned for borrowing a video or music or whatever from any site.
This is about greed, my friends and I urge y'all to check out the links and sign the petitions.

More on Blogger
I had a couple notes on the Blogger login post so I toddled back to see what nitecruzr had to say and y'all can check it here. It can't hurt and if it saves anyone from having to move their blog, it's worth the time. As I've learned in the 20+ years I've been online, change often just means trading one set of problems for another set of problems. The exception is my recent change to Firefox which appears to have eliminated a really nasty problem that was putting me and my techie ex crazy. No it's not perfect but it is much better and that's as good as it gets in the world of computers. And who knows? It may have saved me from the problems y'all are having!

Friday the 13th
Friday the 13th is usually no worse or no better than any other day in my life. I was, like many of you, zapped by Blogger's disability Thursday evening and spent a lot of time trying to figure what the heck happened. The good news is that I had already been around to visit most of y'all who use other services but wondered that the list seemed short. When I awoke this morning, Blogger was still down and according to Google, it had been ailing for 30 hours. With no end in sight, I decide to get my act together and go do some things that I've been avoiding -- I even put on a skirt and makeup!
First stop was the optician for a decent set of glasses for reading. I really don't need them for anything else but my experience with the drugstore variety has not been good so I decided to get a good pair. Next stops were the post office and the bank and as I stopped at the light by the the fire station, I noticed that a couple of the guys were holding signs and wondered if they were "Kill S.B. 5" signs. They weren't -- they read: Fill the Boot. A couple guys were holding one their big rubber boots so I guessed it was a fund-raiser and waved one of the handsome young men to come over and tossed a few bucks in the boot and _____ off the idiot behind me because he was delayed a minute or so. I was good -- I didn't raise so much as a finger.
When I finished my errands, I looked up 'fill the boot' online and found that it was a joint initiative and the IAFF and the MDA are partnering for Jerry' kids! I love it. It really shows that creep in Columbus (our not so esteemed governor) how greedy union workers are. NOT!!!!!
Nice to see that Blogger is back and I'll try to get around and visit if I don't fall asleep watching my Netflix .

A Couple Notes
It's another day in paradise and a couple things caught my attention while I was thinking about a post for today.
* I thought my post on Tuesday was rather innocuous as far as politics go -- I didn't raise hell or place blame but just asked that those folks in D.C. get their act together and do something. I didn't think it would trigger a nasty response from a conservative sort who wanted to air his agenda here (which I did not allow). Then today Andrew Sullivan, who I admire greatly, posted this excellent quote at The Daily Dish that pretty much says what I was getting at in Tuesday's post only better as one would expect from the writer.
"Much indeed to be regretted, party disputes are now carried to such a length, and truth is so enveloped in mist and false representation, that it is extremely difficult to know through what channel to seek it. This difficulty to one, who is of no party, and whose sole wish is to pursue with undeviating steps a path which would lead this country to respectability, wealth, and happiness, is exceedingly to be lamented. But such, for wise purposes, it is presumed, is the turbulence of human passions in party disputes, when victory more than truth is the palm contended for," - George Washington, in a letter to Timothy Pickering, July 27, 1795.
* I loved all your great comments on yesterday's 'Sisters' post but I think Joy said it best: "One big happy family....that's how I like it, Kay. We're just a hoot!" We are a hoot and I love y'all madly!!!! Thanks so much for your love and support! Here's a video that I think works for us!!!!
* I visited my fine friend from Texas, Cowtown Pattie, tonight and my blood pressure went ballistic. Run -- don't walk -- over there to read what she's written so well. I've included the link to sign the petition and I've included the video below. The world as we know it is going to hell! I'm not worried about me -- I'm old. I'm worried about my grandchildren.

Random Tuesday Thoughts
It's early Tuesday and that should tell y'all that my non-existent sleep patterns are still very much the status quo. Sigh.
* I had to take Miss Ruby for a new tire yesterday. The ex recommended a place that is fair and reasonable when I mentioned the need last week. It's kind of nice that we are able to talk to each other. And don't anybody get excited, I am delighted that he seems so happy with his lady and told him that, too.
* Yesterday was the anniversary of the Reverend Martin Luther King's birth. We really have come a long way since then but we still have a long way to go.
I swiped this photo of the Tea Party's rally last summer. It stuns, amazes, and saddens me greatly that this 'mentality', to put it kindly, still exists. When are we going to grow up in this country? [Note: Sarah Palin is going to speak at their upcoming convention.]
* I just read Game Change by John Heileman and Mark Halperin. It's about Election 2008 and while not much surprised me, I was impressed by their candor and impartial approach. If it were a novel, I would have thought it a bit over the top but we're living with it. Am I scared? You betcha.
* Y'all know that I think Facebook is pretty useless and had deactivated it a while back. Somehow it got reactivated so I decided to just live with it until I could find a way to get rid of it completely. However, someone tripped my trigger, and decided that I should add people I didn't want to add, I got angry and went to work and found a way to rid myself of it. There really is a way to delete it but they keep it concealed which offends my right to make the decision to leave. Allegedly, it takes up to 14 days for my profile, etc., to be deleted which seems pretty damned stupid to me. Here's a pretty funny video about it. And I am done -- I hope. If not, there will be hell to pay.

Danger, Will Robinson! Danger!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was really looking forward to writing a post about how stunned and amazed I was that so many of y'all commented so very kindly on my new profile photo and why I finally updated it however, in Kay's World "the best laid plans of mice and men -- and The Kay -- gang aft agley", to paraphrase Scottish poet Robert Burns.
Instead, I'm issuing a warning to y'all -- hence the above title. Yesterday I got online to pay my utility bills (I've become a paperless kind of gal) and got pretty cranky when my AT&T bill had an extra $36.99 on it. This month is tight as hell as I've mentioned here. I paid the damned bill in bad humor and after I paid the others, I got on the phone to AT&T and hollered about the extra charges. It turns out that they were bogus charges was from a "crammer" and AT&T knows all about them.
And when I called the numbers for the offender that the CSR gave me, I was told that someone gave my phone number and name to get email and fax service. I asked what address they gave and was told that she couldn't give me that. She got an earful as y'all can well believe. She finally gave me the confirmation numbers I needed for AT&T to take them off my bill. I called AT&T back and gave them the info and asked more questions. She credited the $36.99 and told me to report it as identity theft. Yikes!!!!!!!!!!!
I went online and did some checking on this firm -- Enhanced Business Services -- and discovered that in 2001, they were investigated and censured by the Federal Trade Commission. A lot of good that did. You can read about it here and it is still going on today despite agreements to the contrary. I think their corporate officers should be jailed.
I called the Federal Trade Commission and filed a complaint and they in turn told me to contact one of the three major credit bureaus so they could put a security freeze on my accounts and inform the other two who would do the same. It seems they have an agreement to keep each other informed in such cases. I was told to file a complaint with my local law enforcement so guess where I'll be tomorrow morning? I also have to file complaints with the Ohio Public Utilities Commission as well. This is really a lot of work.
Oh yeah, in Ohio it is a minimum 5th degree felony to "intentionally use another person's identifying information to fraudulently obtain credit, property or services." I think these bozos owe me big time but judging from the government's attitude, it won't happen. That they are still in business despite having done the same damned thing before.
How many people people (you?) don't pay attention to a ($10-$15) smallish difference in their phone bill? Since my income is so tight, I do but there was a time when I didn't. They got greedy with me so I went through the roof. By using my listed phone number (my address isn't listed) and last name, they slammed this with AT&T's silent acquiescence. Scary, huh? And given the way my life has been, I really needed more drama. Right. Sigh. And y'all know how much I love dealing with bureaucracy!
I am warning y'all. Watch your phone bills. You could be next!!!!!!!! I'm off to bed and going to pull the covers over my head and ask God to make it all go away. I think running away from home sounds really good but it doesn't fit my budget.

They Can Do without My Face!!!
I was soooooooo surprised at the big response to yesterday's post on Twitter et al. I'm also delighted that I'm not alone in my feelings about it. Thank you sooo much! I don't do text-messaging either. If you want to tell me something that can't wait, CALL! The call is free; texting isn't.
I laughed last week at the pub when a young man came up to me and said
"Hello Mrs. ________." I answered, "That's Ms. Dennison and how do I know you?"
It turned out he and his wife had graduated from high school with my son so we chatted a bit and he told me he had my son on his Facebook. He was stunned when I told him I'd shut mine down.
The video below is pretty funny (albeit a bit bawdy --read: crude -- for my taste) and I understand it completely. And yesterday I stated in comments that I might try it again but I won't.
Pretty weird, huh? But then so is Facebook. Yesterday I stated in comments that I might try it again. However, I have changed my mind after seeing the video below. Their privacy policy alone is enough to keep me away. If you don't care what Mark Zuckerberg does with your private info -- go for it -- but I do.

Twittering your life away? Why?
Lately, I keep having acquaintances tell me that I'm behind the times because I more or less shut down my Facebook profile and won't even consider Twitter. Being behind the times doesn't bother me. As long as I can log on to my blog and wander around visiting y'all, I'm happy. Obviously, my life isn't really that interesting that I feel a burning need to share every minute detail on either of those venues. I kvetch enough here. Just my take. I'm not throwing stones. If those venues work for you, that's nice and I'm happy for you but I fail to see their usefulness for social networking. I like my 'net here in the blogosphere better. Here's a cartoon video on Twitter that I thought pretty damn funny. I hope y'all get a giggle from it. Then again, if you're addicted to Twitter, you might not be laughing.
