Danger! Comments Cause Blog Posts!!!

My friend Elaine of Kalilily Time whose blog got me interested in the River of Stones project and made that comment: "OK. We're both rolling now. Rolling stones, get it??!!" I got it and I laughed and it set me a-thinkin' back to my misspent youth and I headed to YouTube. Here are the songs for this week:

If one is of a certain age one cannot -- cannot -- hear the words 'rolling stones' without thinking of Mick and the boys. I was in high school and I seem to recall deciding I liked them just to annoy my sister who was an ardent Beatles fan. Then again, I still prefer bad boys to the pretty ones and I still like to pull out my Rolling Stones for housework music!!! Here's a fave y'all will probably recall:

In 1965 I graduated from high school and began college and somewhere I got interested in Bob Dylan's music! This one is a favorite.

The late 60s/early 70s Soul music came to the mainstream and this Temptations hit was one of my favs.

A year or so later, my friends and I laughed and sang along with Dr. Hook & The Medicine Show.

I guess Elaine and I are the Elderblogger Rolling Stones. I don't know about her but I can't carry a tune in a bucket so don't wait for our debut CD!!!!

Hope y'all are having a great day!!!!!!

Happy Blogging!!!!!!!!!

Kay

  1. I'm getting my musical ejjication on Kay's Thinking Cap. My hearing went on leave in 1963, and I got some of it back in 2007. So the Stones rolled right into that dark pit and stayed there--until now. Sure, for years I've seen them gyrating and playing their instruments, but WITHOUT SOUND. Now I've got sound, and it's a hoot to find these YouTube gems when I tune into ...can I call it KayRadio? You make a swell DJ/announcer! Thanks!

  3. Happy New Years, Kay. Oh yes, these videos bring back the memories of what may have been a "mispent" youth but I don't regret a minute of it. Took my protesting seriously and had a hell of a lot of fun doing it. But I was somewhat of an older youth!

  4. I remember all of the groups and songs fondly. And like you I can't carry a tune in a handbasket but I have a fairly large collection of vinyl and cds.

I prefer The Beatles to The Rolling Stones, both musically as well as lyrically. But, it's funny how you managed to post all these songs using the words, Rolling Stones. Ha!

Music is such an emotional art. It brings such feeling with it. Memories as well as the immediate pleasures of listening to it. Thanks for sharing such good ones.

  9. Thx. for the great old music. Btw, I'm very impressed that you got ALL the answers right on my baby boomer quiz. B, born in 1952 and a right-in-the-middle-of-it-all boomer, got four wrong! But she knew the first names of the Everly Bros., and I think that alone is pretty good.

P.S. I like the Rolling Stones, but I like the Beatles better. I hope we can still be friends!

B, born in 1952 and a right-in-the-middle-of-it-all boomer, got four wrong. But she did know the first names of the Everly Bros. and I think that alone is pretty good.

P.S. I, too, like the Rolling Stones; but I always liked the Beatles better. I hope we can still be friends!!

  13. M.E.: You can call it anything you want! I'm just glad you can hear it now! Isn't science grand?

Jams: Why did I know you were a Stones fan? You have the same rebel in your soul as I do. And yeah, Robyn got it right!

tnlib: I can't say I have no regrets no regrets but I can say I had a lot of fun! Those were amazing years for young people. I think it's sad that we didn't pass our fervor, commitment, and fun to our children.

Mary: And don't they take you back to a lot of good times before we lost our innocence?

Lorna: I am not surprised. I liked him a lot, too, but I needed Mick for this post!

gigi: I guess I have an affinity for Rolling Stones.

Nance: I understand completely. These are troubled times and we need to recover the energy and sustained rage we had in our youth to fight back. Still, we rocked our way through it.

AITBR: Blame Elaine -- she set me off on a tangent. LOL

Robert: Good Lord!!! I hope not!!

Sighting@60: I'm a walking compendium of worthless information. No one will play Trivial Pursuit with me. Wah!
    Glad you liked the tunes.

Chancy: I like Old Blue Eyes, too! I remember my mom and dad jitterbugging in our living room to the Big Band sounds. I'm may be a boomer bit I'm an elder boomer --born in '47.

  15. Oh wow! Was Mick ever really that young? Was I ever really that young?

  16. Oh wow, Kay! What a surprise to see Mick looking so young! I was a Beatles fan too, actually. The Rolling Stones were a bit wilder and I was more sedate, I think. :-)
It sure is fun to listen to them now though.

  17. Well....I am so much older than you that NONE of these were songs that I listened to---Of course I knew who these Artists were/are...But none of them interested me. Dylan---when I first saw him on some TV show back in 1961-62, I thought he was a joke!! I was wrong. Very wrong. But....that is what happens when one is past a certain age, I guess. MUSIC is and always was very important to me---But, it was always a different kind of music than most of these clips.

I came to the Beatles late, too...But I did finally "get" them...lol!

HAPPY NEW YEAR MY DEAR KAY....MAY THIS BE A TRULY WONDERFUL SPECIAL YEAR FOR YOU AND YOURS, IN EVERY WAY.

  18. Maggie: I'm glad -- I had a blast putting it together!!!!

Elaine: My sentiments exactly!! However, I do believe that we really were that young and didn't appreciate it.

Kay: Why am I soooo not surprised?
I like the Beatles, too nut the Stones had a certain je ne sais quoi that has lasted.
