Give 'em Hell, Bernie

Bernie Sanders took the floor of the Senate and issued a rousing "Shame on you!" to the Republicans:

Here's a text excerpt from Bernie's speech that gives the gist of the video:

As Social Security emerged as a target in White House budget negotiations, Sen. Bernie Sanders insisted that the retirement program must not be cut as part of any deficit reduction deal.

"Let us be clear," Sanders said. "Social Security has not contributed one nickel to our deficit or our national debt." The program that benefits more than 50 million seniors and disabled has a $2.6 trillion surplus, he stressed, and will be able to provide full benefits for every eligible American for the next 25 years. "I am especially disturbed that President Obama is considering cuts in Social Security after he campaigned against cuts in 2008," Sanders added.

Thank you, Bernie!!!! You spoke for us eloquently and well!!!!!

Happy Blogging!!!!!!!

  1. Thanks goodness there's somebody speaking up for us. The Republicans are just making me ill every time I hear them.

  2. Anonymous7:57 AM

I keep waiting for some of the legislators to bring up the fact that SS isn't a part of the national debt. Did all of the Dems flunk debate in high school?

  3. Anonymous7:58 AM

P.S. I should have written, "Is Bernie the only Democrat who did not flunk debate in high school?"

  4. Bernie is The Man! Could he possibly still be young enough to aim even higher someday?

  5. I LOVE that man!!! May he continue to fight the good fight :)

  6. Just dropped over for my shot of clear thinking.

  7. Shame you don't have more Bernies in congress

  8. With my blood pressure rising watching everyday news, it's good to have a place to come to where I know others share my values!

  9. Thanks for this post. You know I'm not big on politics, but this one is relative to ME. You know, me, me, me.

  10. Kay: I feel your pain! Bernie is a voice in the wilderness!

    CC: I agree!!!!

Nance: He's around my age -- 64! And yeah, he's the Senate's conscience!

    LTTS: He's my hero, too!

    Lorna: Thank you!!!!

Jams: From your keyboard to God's monitor. My Senator, Sherrod Brown is one of Bernie's friends!

Alice: I just try to showcase the sane ones who care about us.

  11. Kay -- Great video with Bernie Sanders -- he always comes through. My big concern is that -- are people listening, do they realize the dire straits of our economy?

And to Anonymous I say -- yes, SS is not part of the national debt -- why is the media afraid to admit to this as well as Mr. Obama?

It is up to the people now to "kick" out the politicians that are turning our country over to the rich.

    Will the people come through??
