Trying to Be Normal

I spend a lot of my life trying to do things right to no avail and that makes for an exercise in frustration. I won't bore you with the details.

I have been a horrible blogger and friend. What can I say? The tests last week and assorted other interruptions (including my horrid, erratic sleep patterns) are driving me bonkers. Hopefully, life will settle down. I have one more test this week and an appointment with Thoracic Doc on the 1st before this installment of the adventure I call a life is over. I hope someone has some answers. I'm awfully tired of being tired.

* I'm pretty angry (read: livid) that there are no women are on the house committee that wants to deny women access to birth control. I hope y'all are, too. Tell your Congress Critter. I tried telling mine but he's a tea party creep and all I got was a party line. Needless to say, I wasn't surprised.

* I finally got around to doing some research on neuropathy to see if there was any kind of treatment for it. There really isn't very much but there were reports that vitamins E and B12 seem to help so when I picked up my scrips, I bought both. I figure that it can't hurt.

* How mild has our winter been in Ohio? A week a go we finally got a couple inches of snow and it was gone within 48 hours. I've hardly worn gloves or a hat or even buttoned my coat. I'm still betting that we'll have a blizzard on my birthday just for fun.

* The Violence Again Women Act is up for reauthorization in the Senate and all the Republicans voted against it -- another slam at women. Y'all can read more here

* Here's Bill Maher calling out yet again (in about a minute) the ignorance we're up against today. It would be funny if it weren't so sad.

Hope y'all are having a great day!!!!

Happy Blogging!!!!

Kay

  1. Crossing my fingers some light is shed on the medical morass this week. The political morass is hopeless.

    1. The medical stuff won't even be close to done until the first -- if then. As to politics, it just keeps getting worse. Sigh.

  2. Sometimes life is so challenging...makes one want to scream, or at the very least hope for a solid night of sleep. I hope that you get some results that come with answers, and preferrably, fixable. Were you able to get answers about your eye?

    1. Thanks!!!!! All this stems from the stuff with my eye. I see the thoracic surgeon, Dr. Dave, on the first for all the test results. My carotids tested just fine. And my eyes look fine.

  3. Maher is always great. I am also very concerned about our country and see this now as a culture war and I don't use that term lightly. I had kept politics out of my Thoughts blog but they go back in tomorrow until after the election. I am finding this all unbelievable.

  4. Incidentally on the sleep, I found something that is helping me go back to sleep when I wake in the middle of the night. I sleep pretty well generally but sometimes will wake up and then have a hard time getting back to it. Anyway it was in one of the romance books I had gotten for the Kindle with a whole series of short stories on SEALS. Supposedly it's what they do and it has helped me. Last night I figured out why. Count to 10 slowly-- in breath and out breath for each number. In 1 Out 1 and so forth. Then when you get to 10, hold your breath for a count of six. Repeat the whole thing. It seems to help and I figured out why-- I cannot then think about anything else while I'm doing it and my mind being full of this and that is part of why I have a hard time falling back asleep.

Also it's helpful not to drink wine late in the evening (which I don't know that you do) but alcohol makes for bad sleep patterns. Often a person will fall asleep with a glass of wine but then wake up erratically later.

  7. It seems we need to be our own advocates when it comes to healthcare. I've gotten to where I always research what the doctor tells me to see if I think he may be right. It is amazing to me how many people think doctors know what they're doing. They're only people, many not that bright, with not that much education.
So, on that note, I hope you find some resolution Kay. Soon.

  8. Sometimes life simply gets in the way. Don't beat yourself up, Kay. Do what you can and let the rest slide. The most important thing is to get your health matters taken care of. Something we know about here as we are now dealing with Mom's sudden and variable high blood pressure.

I have given up on the Repthuglicans. They constantly reveal the truth of the oxymoron 'compassionate conservative.' Neither compassionate nor conservative.

  10. Health issues have to be a priority...we all know it. When you aren't feeling well...everything else suffers. I hope you get some relief from those erratic sleep patterns Kay. That's a common problem for so many. Vitamin E and B12....I've heard other people say they are very helpful. Winter? When is that going to happen? I'm afraid if we've missed it this time around that we'll get wholloped but good the next time. I'm not going to think about it. As always....love Maher. Have a good week sweetie... ~Joy

  11. What's normal for any of us I'm beginning to wonder more and more. Hope they figure out what's making you feel so tired. A much younger friend fights that similar battle -- had Dr. tell her to take B12, then after a few months they both agreed she should stop. Check out the B12 side effects, especially relative to any other meds you may be taking -- definitely let your Dr. know you added it, or any other over-the-counter pills (I do to be on the safe side.) You know to do that I expect, so continue taking what I say for whatever it may or may not be worth to you, like anything else I say. -;)

Yeah, the actions being taken in support of women are reprehensible. Some of the other rhetoric I hear makes me wonder if some of those politicians positions border on fostering a theocratic state -- think Iran, or the American version of the Taliban.

How about listening to some instrumental music when you go to sleep -- to keep words/thinking out of your head? Visualization of a nature scene -- maybe with you in the center?

How about revising your criteria for yourself as a "good" or "bad" blogger? Just be a blogger that writes or visits others as life permits (with no guilt) is the philosophy I've adopted.

  12. Some good comments here, Kay. I hope you take them to heart. The first order of your business MUST be your health. Go for it. Whatever it takes. I like Rain's thoughts about sleep. I may try that next time it happens to me. (Thanks Rain) As for the B12, it certainly helps me, but not in pill form. I take a B12 shot in the doctor's office once a month. She says our bodies don't absorb B12 from our food as it once could when we were younger. I can tell the difference--before and after--in mere hours. Got any happy music in your stash there? If so, put it on and ignore the news for 24 hours...it'll make you feel better for at least that long! :)

  14. For a lot of good reasons. :) I probably shouldn't comment since I can see you are all like minded and is a nice way to vent about your concerns. I would only cause angst ...just as I feel when I read the political things in here.

But not everything Kay. I enjoy your groaners and hope your health issues get resolved. Having been thrust into the patient side of things since 06 ..has been frustrating. And I agree with one of your readers about being an advocate for your health care.

That is so true ...particularly if you are a patient in the hospital. And if you are unable to advocate for yourself then you need someone to advocate for you. With short staffing and less time for patient one on one ...errors are more likely. between reduced staffing and over regulation causing an avalanche of redundant paperwork and eyes on the computer screens ...the quality of care can be compromised. be aware of your medications. Never assume. Mistakes happen all the time in the medical system. And speak up if something doesn't seem right.

I heard a doc yrs ago say ...that you should fight like hell to stay out of the hospital ...but, if you're in the hospital, you should fight like heck to get out. Hospital Infections being a primary concern.

And advanced directives. I handed them out and explained all the time and yet have not done them for my husband or me.

I wish you well with all your health issues challenging you at this time and do hope they will be resolved.

I have a hard time sleeping too. They say hormones, drinking alcohol close to bedtime and even being on computer can interfere with sleep. The bright screens mess with our melatonin or something ..which we have less of as we age. Also they are too stimulating. I take melatonin and it does help. I am going to try the SEALS method. :)
