Just when the idiot Congressman my fellow citizens elected, it got worse. This guy owns nursing homes (and has been sued by patients and their families) and should be the last member of Congress to want to end Medicare and Medicaid!
Here's an the bulk of an email I received from ProgressOhio:
Here’s Your Chance to Send Representative Renacci Your message.
ProgressOhio is inviting constituents, seniors, and activists to attend a press event at Rep. Renacci’s office Thursday July 21st.
Give Renacci a Red Card on Medicaid!
Rep. Renacci’s security and staff controlled the debate at his recent Town Hall. He used tactics such as distributing Red Cards and Green Cards for the crowd to use and then he asked them questions in a way that confused them on how to use the cards to respond. Renacci also kicked individuals out of the meeting and his staff decided which questions would be discussed during the town hall.
Citizens both outside and inside the hall struggled to make their voices heard over the Congressman’s stifling tactics.
Now you have your chance to send Representative Renacci a message and REALLY have your voice heard.
Politicians are currently negotiating a deal in Washington that would cut Medicaid for seniors, people with disabilities, and children while at the same time giving millionaires another tax break. Their schemes could cost Ohio billions of dollars and thousands of jobs!
Medicaid is how most of us pay for long-term care in our homes, assisted living facilities, or in nursing homes. Do we want to go back to the days of the poor farms and old folks homes?
Let Rep. Rennaci know that he was elected to represent all of the people in his district and that we are opposed to cuts in Medicaid.
Join ProgressOhio, a Health Care for America Now (HCAN) partner, retirees, and activists on June 30th in Columbus to send a message to Rep. Renacci that we want our voice heard on Medicaid.
On one hand, I want to go and I want to holler really loud; on the other, his office is located smack in the middle of the richest township in our area and place where there is insufficient parking. AND the cops are the nastiest in the county. Therefore, I don't think I should go because y'all know I'm not bloody likely to sit quietly and swallow the swill he'll be spouting. I do think it's interesting that there wasn't an announcement of this in his latest email newsletter which tells me how interested he is in hearing from us.
I feel kind of gutless for not going but I can't afford bail but the only one who takes care of me is the old lady I see in the mirror every morning and Jiminy Cricket tells me to stay home.
I did, however, sign up to volunteer with ProgressOhio and I plan to help campaign against him in the coming election. Does that count?
I leave y'all with a very old joke: What the opposite of Progress? Congress!

We Are Ohio!!!!!
Good news came in yesterday from Columbus!!!! Over 714,000 good folks in the great State of Ohio have signed the referendum petitions to repeal SB7, aka the union-busting bill, and I am proud to have my signature counted among theirs. The goal was to obtain 450,000 signatures and they predict that by the time all the petitions are in, we may double it. This means that there will be vote to repeal SB7 come November. Kudos to Ohio Attorney General, Jennifer Bruner, who spearheaded the referendum campaign, and the many volunteers who gave countless hours working to get and count the signatures!
Here's the video a young friend sent along who is studying film at OSU. I think she has a brilliant future with network news!
We are Ohio and we're standing loud and proud!!!!!! Take that, Governor Kasich! You're going down!

You're Not Paranoid If . . .
Someone wiser than I said, "You're not paranoid if they really are out to get you," and that was rattling about my poor damaged brain this morning as I consider what those nice folks at Political Ruminations had about the GOP's plans for destroying Social Security and organized labor. Soooo I googled the above statement and came across a truly thoughtful and rational commentary from a Toledo law firm on exactly what is happening to those of us not among the uber-rich and I strongly urge you read it to pass it on to anyone and everyone you can think of -- including your senators, congressmen, and state senators and legislators -- and yeah, Obama and Biden, too.
Jack Cafferty is wrong. It isn't "getting ugly out there, folks" as he is wont to say. It IS ugly out there and unless We the People stand up and shout NOW, it's gonna get worse -- a LOT worse.
For me, losing my Social Security and Medicare (yeah, that's next) is a death sentence -- that that is the plain, unvarnished truth. These greedy a$$hats don't care if y'all or I starve or die from homelessness and/or lack of medication and health care. The way I see it is that my choices are limited: I can shrug and accept what they are doing to us and die or I can go down fighting. I come from a family who were patriots in the American Revolution and braved the wilderness to settle Ohio so I choose to go down fighting -- to do otherwise would be an insult to their legacy.
Here's Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) telling it like it is:
Marcy Kaptur (D-Ohio) spoke up against SB 5 in my home town of Toledo.
Sherrod Brown (D-OH). who I think has been fighting for us in the Buckeye State since he and I have been old enough to vote, weighs in on SB 5:
What I want to know is where in the hell is Obama on what we in the heartland -- Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana and Ohio -- are fighting?
We need him -- and he needs us and will need us again in 2012.
There are those in the media who disdainfully blow us off as 'flyover country'. To them I say, "You may be right but what we lack in sophistication (which I think they underestimate), we make up for in common sense, a work ethic, family values and dedication to the values that were laid down by the Founding Fathers in the Constitution.
We in the great state of Ohio, Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin are taking a stand against those who would take away those values we hold dear and are demanding that the promises made to us be kept. And I, for one, am dedicated to seeing the initiatives through to the end. I cannot do otherwise in good conscience.

Still Rallying in Ohio
We're still rallying in Ohio. Yesterday across the country many participated in the AFL-CIO's We Are One Rallies in memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. There was one here in town but I couldn't attend due to a doctor's appointment. However, my ex-husband attended and called to tell me what he learned about up-coming events -- and there's a lot. (The funny part is my ex is really interested and gung ho in what's happening here in Ohio -- funny because for most of his working life he was a non-union salaried employee of a major corporation here but got 'down-sized' after 26 years.) He said he understands the value of unions because when the Steelworkers got a raise, so did he. Some people don't get that.
The rallies will be continuing across the country. I think it's great and will do what I can to help. I want to show the greedy you-know-whats that we care ALL AMERICANS -- not just the very rich and want to open doors to hope for our children and grandchildren's future.
(Soap Box mode off)
Here's a video from last week's rally in Columbus that might seem a bit familiar to those of you who have been around here during OSU football season. I loved it and have included the lyrics. It's becoming the anthem for working Ohioans. Enjoy!!!!!
Hey, John Kasich, don’t sell us out
Hey, Ohio, stand up and shout
Kasich has a budget plan and he wants it to pass
But everybody knows it’ll hurt the middle class
Ohio needs decent jobs, so whatcha gonna do?
Stop your corporate bailouts and your union-busting, too
(So we’re saying) Hey, John Kasich, don’t sell us out
Hey, Ohio, stand up and shout (yeah, yeah, yeah)
Taxpayers bailed out the banks, yes, Huntington, too
But after you got that cash, what’d you turn around and do?
Gave to the GOP, and their budget which
Attacks the middle class and supports the super rich
Come on Kasich (come on come on)
Come on Ohio (come on come on)
Come on Kasich (come on come on)
Come on Ohio (come on come on)
Come on Kasich (come on come on)
Come on Ohio (come on come on)
Hey, John Kasich, don’t sell us out
Hey, Ohio, stand up and shout (yeah, yeah, yeah)
Hey, John Kasich, don’t sell us out!
Cool, huh?
