I've really been trying to get myself together but I suspect that my doctors would be calling me depressed and trying to get me to take some stupid medication with weird side effects.
* I've done a couple things with Organizing for America but after Obama put Social Security and Medicare on the table, I'm feeling pretty disenchanted -- aren't you?
* Good news: I got a letter from Social Security and it seems that they're going top give me more money cause I turn 66 later this month. In a better economic situation, that would be good but experience tells me
that I probably won't even break even. Then again, who knows? I guess there will be another letter telling me that I can collect on the ex's Social Security so I'll be battling bureaucracy yet again. Sigh. .
* We still don't know when the ex's services will be held other than May and I find that very annoying as do a lot of others. The lesson for me is that I'd best make some decisions and put them in writing to avoid such chaos. The good news is that my insurance guy has been really helpful and is good at cutting through the BS
of life as an elder.
* My favorite Senator, Bernie Sanders, has a petition that sends a message to Obama here. Please take a moment to sign it if y'all haven't done so already.
* Speaking eloquently on the chained CPI is my hero Robert Reich -- y'all can find here on YouTube.
* Bill Maher explains the Libertarians . . .
Happy Blogging!!!!!

Dear Kay,
ReplyDeleteI am very sorry for your loss. I wish you well and I look forward to your return to blogging soon.
It is very, very sad what The Democrats are doing to this country. We were fooled but we all were warned. I also agree that Chained CPI will be a seniors detriment. Anyone retired now, at age 65, if Chained CPI goes in to effect, as Obama said it will, will see a $650 drop in his/her Social Security payment by the time they reach 70. NOT a good thing.
Back in the 1970's and 60's the Democrats (John F. Kennedy, etc) were to be admired. But somewhere along the way, the Dems went too far left and became Progressive Liberals. Once uncovered, you will see that they support socialism and all that goes with it. You may not like Ayn Rand, but just read her new into to her book 'We The Living'. Ayn says we Americans have no idea what Communism really is like and she is right. We can ridicule her all we want but most of what she said is coming true today. Very, very sad. We Americans have been so misguided and misled.
I'll sign Bernie Sanders letter and I agree with Robert Reich. But Bill Maher needs a serious brain adjustment. Even Paul Ryan doesn't support Chained CPI. How awful for we seniors still alive today to see our destruction. Socialism gets rid of the old and limits the birth of the new in order to balance the middle, who will work solely for the continuation of The State.
Thanks for letting me air my thoughts.
Suzanne Sheridan
II think Ayn Rand was wrong, wrong, wrong.
DeleteI signed the petition, thanks for reminding me. Disappointed and sad, neither Medicare or social security should be on the table.
ReplyDeleteI sign at least a half dozen petitions daily -- I subscribe to a couple dozen newsletters -- and I pass on the ones I like best!
DeleteDecisions in writing are the best. Make sure they are with someone you trust. Thanks for the link to Bernie.
ReplyDeleteBill rarely disappoints. Reich is the one person talking sense in this economic mess. Too bad the ones with power aren't listening. Hang on Kay!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad to see you back, Kay. I figured you needed a bit of time to get yourself on an even keel again. Since you are already on Social Security I don't know what the rules say. I receive benefits on my deceased ex-husbands earnings and have since just before I turned 61. I found that since he had died and was on Social Security when he died and I had been unemployed with no real expectations of finding a job I could qualify. They found no benefit for me and considerable harm to me if I waited and claimed benefits on my own account. Yes, it does piss me off that Obama is still holding out Social Security and Medicare as carrots for the Repthuglican donkeys. But I am not surprised. One of the major bail-out measures the powers that be all over the world have used to try to 'save' the system is to raid what ever big pot of money they can see. They have done that to pensions in many countries and companies since the crash. Thank the powers or gods or whoever for Bernie Sanders and the few who have pushed back on this. Take care of yourself.
ReplyDeleteIt's all confusing and I'm trying mightily to keep it all straight if all goes well, I might just be okay.
DeleteHang in there.
ReplyDeleteTrying mightily!!!!
DeleteI've been thinking about you having heard about the proposed cut to SS, knowing how hard it is already. So I went and signed the petition. Hope the sun shines for you soon.
ReplyDeleteAwwwwwwwwwwww Alice, you are a great friend!!! I'm not rich but there are those who who get a lot less than I do!!!
DeleteGlad to see you back; hope you stick around.
ReplyDeleteThanks!!! I just hope things settle a bit!!!! I need some fun and peace.
DeleteGlad to see you back; hope you stick around.
ReplyDeleteI wish he had resorted to some other kind of program to be put on the table. Not like it's going to do much good, the current mood of the GOP is not to negotiate with the president. If shutting down the government didn't involve not paying the military (their core base of voters) Republicans would of brought us a fiscal-Libertarian dystopia by now.
ReplyDeleteThanks for coming by, Adam!!! I agree with you!!!! Come by anytime!!!!!
DeleteHappy to know that you are blogging again my friend!
ReplyDeleteI wont comment on American politics other than that The WHO had it right in their song "Wont Get Fooled Again" Particularly the last line: Meet the new Boss same as the old Boss.
Trying!!!!! I agree!!!! You just reminded me of a George Carlin shtick that fits for.
DeleteHang in there, girl!
ReplyDeleteThinking you'd appreciate two blogs added to my roll today both by same person--http.www.thischairrocks.com and especially Yo Is this Ageist http://yoisthisageist.com/ask where you can add to the collection. Let me know! yours, naomi
ReplyDeleteI get more disenchanted every day, but I refuse to let the bastards get me down!
ReplyDeleteObama is still better than the alternative but he is a disappointment. He was from the beginning on his economic team
