Surprise! Surprise!

I've been meaning to write about this for the last week but the idiocies on the GOP side -- notably Rush (who Al Franken called a big fat idiot) -- have distracted all of us from the Super Tuesday of which the Great State of Ohio will participate.

I shouldn't have been surprised when I got a call from a pollster who wanted to know how I was going to cast my ballot but I'm always surprised anyway. I answered the very nice lady who had the good taste to laugh at my jokes (lol) and as we were ending my interview, in a rare display of clarity, I asked her what polling organization she represented. I laughed my head off when she said, "Quinnipiac."

If y'all are like me, you always wonder when you hear the media refer to the polls, you wonder who answers these poll. Well, now you have the answer: people like me. Now that may scare some of y'all and gratify others. Either way, I thought it interesting and pretty cool.

Gotta take my Election Day walk down to the American Legion post to cast my ballot.
Hope y'all will be doing the same!

Happy Blogging!!!!

Kay

  1. My husband or I get polled every so often. I have never thought to ask who the polling firm is but will remember it in the future. A fun one recently came in the mail for my husband-- asking as a Republican what he thought were important issues and stands the party should take. He filled it out with much chuckling as they paid for the postage back. You can imagine the fun he had with that one!

  2. I've never been polled. Hmmph! But at least it's good to know someone positive has been.

  4. We rarely answer these calls--if we know who it is beforehand. I'll remember to ask next time I get a real person on the other end. I won't be going out to vote because Utah uses the caucus thingy, and I don't think we're the right party or religion to have a chance there. In Utah our vote is always a waste of time (since this is one of the reddest states) but we do it anyway.

  5. Quinnipiac--you're in the big time. How fun to be able to exchange a conversational sentence. I've never cracked a single one of them.

Great to hear that someone rational was able to be heard in a poll. Thanks for representing us, Kay!

  7. Market research was my profession for more years than I'd like to remember, I always knew it was people like you :)

Social and political research was my love but ad and product paid so much better - isn't that the way

Quinnipiac does a good job, they don't play with the data and they are objective
My niece went to college there

  9. I worked for a marketing research firm, too--for the broadcast industry. one of the major things i learned was that you can make a poll say anything you want it to. Most of the "polls" out there in the news are just spin.

    1. I know that but I still answer and the Quinnipiac poll has more 'street cred' than most.

    1. I don't have caller ID -- I refuse to pay for it on philosophical grounds so I answer my land line. If I get unwanted calls on my cell, I answer and try to find who it is and file a complaint with the FTC. There are a couple who I think I can sue and I might.

    1. I answered her questions and slipped in a wise crack or a pronouncement here and there. Rest assured that I made my position clear! I wouldn't miss an opportunity to tell them how I really feel as all y'all well know!!!
