Post Primary and Assorted Other Thoughts

I have come down with a nasty cold. So far, no fever but I'm all stuffed up and a tad froggy,  I prolly should call Dr. Maria or Dr. Dave because of my forth-coming surgery. I got a letter from the latter this morning telling me that I have to have an arteriogram (a new one on me) soon and they gave me a tentative date and info for my surgery later this month. I really need to call them in the morning.   Sigh.

The Ohio primary is still very much in the news and I've a few things that came in that I want to share with y'all.  I hope you enjoy them.

* I think that y'all know that as the daughter, sister, ex-wife, and mother of a vet (etc.),  I support our troops and veterans.  I  get  the newsletter from votevets.org  and the most recent issue asked me to sign a petition to get Rush Limbaugh off Armed Forces radio on that Rush was disrespectful to all women in the Sandra Fluke debacle -- and specifically the women of the military. If you agree, go over and lend your support by signing it.   Thanks in advance.

* I know I  mentioned that the Republicans in the Statehouse gerrymandered our congressional districts horribly.  One of the worst examples took place this week with a tough race between two of my favorite Congress Critters:  Marcy Kaptur of Toledo and Dennis Kucinich of Cleveland. And that, gentle bloggers demonstrates graphically how heinous the redistricting was.  It was a pretty tough race and Dennis disappointed me by getting awfully nasty.  Marcy won and will be running against that idiot that Sarah Palin  adopted in the 2008 campaign, Joe the Plumber.  I think Marcy will win handily.  We need her progressive voice.

* Note:  I do not accept anonymous comments unless one includes one's name or handle in the comment.
If you want me to take you seriously, don't hide.

* There's been a lot of criticism of Matt Taibbi's obituary of Andrew Breitbart whose venom was never my cuppa. Mr.Taibbi's obit was downright tame compared to Breitbart's eulogy on Ted Kennedy.

* John Kasich has pretty  much sealed his fate as a one term governor. In the wake of the devastating tornadoes that struck southwestern Ohio he initially refused federal aid which would have excluded home owners from getting help in re-building/repairing their homes. He has since requested that aid but as my grandpa would have said:  "You can't un-ring a bell."

* Martin Bashir calls out Mitt Romney: Limbaugh's lunacy succinctly (about 2.5 minutes) and eloquently:.

And in conclusion, on Super Tuesday, over 547,000 Ohioans came out and cast their ballots for an uncontested Barack Obama. I'm proud to have been one of them.

Hopefully, I'll get around to visit y'all if I don't fall asleep!!!

Happy Blogging!!!!!!

  1. John Kasich wanted to make government run like business, but he removed himself so far from Main Street business as to be a caricature of a business man. He's about nothing but "the deal", the bottom line, the end of the day. Sad that real hardware store owners, any businessman in the sense we used to know, will never be part of the new machine. Get better soon!

  2. Hope you're shaking the bug that caught you, but if you have to delay the surgery am sure you'll do what's best.

Enjoyed your take on what's happening back there. I was sorry to hear in the news primary night that Kucinich lost and knew you'd be disappointed. Waited to go to bed 'til the projections came in which took a while for Ohio.

Sounds like your Gov. not too bright about helping Ohio tornado disaster victims. Was sure sorry to hear about the devastation.

Heard our former disaster Gov. Swartzenegger was a big deal in Columbus with his body building.

Having ole whats-his-name (I don't even like to type the name) on Armed Forces radio could hardly be a morale booster for female troops and would feed any misogynist males. From what I've read females in the military have had more such problems than they should have.

    Feel better soon!

    1. The whole point of the gerrymandering was to make our purple state redder. Both Dennis and Marcy are good liberal/progressives so it really doesn't matter a lot which won -- I like both of them. I'm gonna email you on this.

And yeah, as long as men think they're superior to women, there will be problems. My daughter served 8 years in the Navy working mostly with men and mostly had a pretty good experience but also took charge of any problems without raising hell with the brass. My daughter is one tough lady. I (the doormat) keep wondering where she came from and so does her dad.

  4. Great post, Kay. I will sign the petition. I was not aware of your gov's refusal to help tornado victims. What a jerk. And wasn't that Breitbart obit something else. Never say ill of the dead, but wow he was a monster.
Hope all goes well for you on the health front. And keep these posts coming!!

  8. My spirits are lifted by the Democratic turnout. I just hope they/we don't all stay home in November "assuming" the GOP will implode... That would be a dangerous mistake.

    1. I agree!!!!! I consider voting my duty! I felt great about the turnout, too. In my precinct, turnout was low according to the poll workers which bothers me because we are mostly low income in my 'hood. There's a lot of disillusionment here.

  10. I hope this finds you feeling better now and that you have contacted your doctor.

I was sorry that gerrymandering cost Kucinich his seat and also to learn that he ran a negative campaign. Those weasel Republicans can't win fair and square so they have to resort to sneaky tactics.

    1. I'm calling in the morning -- I don't call on the weekend unless I'm dying. lol

As to Kucinich, it was ugly. The redistricting (done by our evil governor and his lackeys) was designed to pit two good, strong, well-known, and progressive candidates. Marcy is a fantastic Congresswoman but we lost a progrssive voice.

We're working on restoring our districts to normal but that's another election.

  11. Feel better Kay. I can't exactly preach to you about calling the doctor, since I'm very bad at doing it unless I'm really hurting or worn down from worrying about something. But....I DO want you to feel better quickly...and if that means talking to your doctor...then I hope you do it. Take care... ~Joy
