Catching Up Day and Some Notes

Today my main goal is to catch up with all of you and see what interesting things you're up to these days! However, here are a few notes from Kay's World and some of the best video I've seen this past week.

* I'm determined to keep up with my chores here and keep my wicked tendency to clutter in check. I can be such a slob sometimes. So far, so good.

* Yesterday, I  bought a small life insurance policy to cover funeral expenses. My insurance guy laughed because I named my ex the beneficiary.  It makes sense to me since he lives in town and my kids are so far away and I know he'll be around.  And I also know that he doesn't believe in fancy funerals either so things will get done right and my stuff will get distributed properly. The only thing I'd like is a piper in homage to my Scottish roots.  I did, however, tell the ex where not to bury me. And he's in charge of my last blog post which is saved as a draft.  I really gotta write this stuff down somewhere. Thinking about one's demise is annoying so I'll stop. I'll be around a long time -- the women in my family last. This is just something I wanted get done.  God knows the GOTW has to go on and on and . . .

* This video (and the ones that follow)  show what nefarious, nasty and ugly propaganda the thugs are perpetrating. All are very short and make excellent sense.  Enjoy!!! This one (:59) is pretty ironic and I had to laugh because Ronnie is treated as a saint by Conservatives.  Can y'all say 'hypocrisy'?  I knew you could.

* Chris Matthews exposes (1:38) how much Romney cares about the middle class and the poor here.  You and I are in trouble.

* I didn't watch the Superbowl so I missed Clint's excellent commercial (2:01)for Chrysler.  He's not a liberal by any means (actually he is an independent with Libertarian tendencies) but I the message he sent was really great.

* Let's wrap it up with Bill Maher's razor-sharp wit and great words from Wes Moore (1:22):

That's it for today!!!! I have to get moving! Hope y'all have a great day!!!

Happy Blogging!!!!

Kay

  1. Yep, trying to make "Republicans" out of Tea Partyers may be tough to recover from. i'm enjoying the show. And thanks for rounding up the clips.

  4. It's good that you have a positive working relationship with your ex. Shows maturity, responsibility and a forgiving heart on your part. Wait ... I compliment myself! I have a similar relationship with my ex -- cooperative, mutually beneficial, but at arm's length.

I happened to see that Maher show. I'm not much of a fan (in part b/c I get basic cable, not the premium channels) but you're right -- that was a good one!

    1. I think part of healing in divorce involves putting the past behind and acting like a grownup -- it takes time and patience.

I don't have cable at all -- the price is too high considering that I really don't like TV much. I catch Bill, etc. on YouTube and have a Netflix account.

  5. Yae, Kay! Great post. My husband (worked for the USEPA) was always so upset with Reagan because people thought he was such a saint, but he worked hard to try to make EPA as ineffective as he possibly could. Ridiculous!

  7. Love that Maher video...great. I too think it's really wonderful that you and your ex have a friendly and working relationship...I think it's pretty rare to have it work out like that. Honestly, it's so much better than the alternative. Happy week Kay... ~Joy

    1. Glad you liked it! And it took some time and it's still not all skittles and beer. I'm not a bitter person and I can't be like my mom who has alienated my brother and I terribly.

  9. Nice stuff. I don't know if we share virtues, but we certainly share shortcomings. I like to talk, and I'm not too obsessed with neatness and order, although I've found it harder and harder not to attend to these matters.
And wow there is so much out there on the Internet these days it's impossible to keep up.
We have formed cautious arrangements with ex-family members too. It seems wise, sometimes.

    1. LOL Hattie!!!! The sign above my desk reads, "My mind may be cluttered but my mind is empty" and one could say the same about my blog. I'm trying to keep up with my house because catching up is wayyy too much work. And yeah, I hear re: the 'Net. As to arrangements, with my health I really do think it's wise. I've got to make a list one of these days. Sigh.

Good for you, Kay, in recognizing what others might have overlooked. It's good to be practical, on occasion. (My ex and I get along so well that we live together...well...after 11 years of failed divorce, we remarried. We were married for 19 years the first time and are coming up on 24 years the second.

I also liked your groaner on the upcoming sentencing!

    1. Thanks!!! I try hard. My ex and I were married for 28 years and our divorce was the result of some problems in several areas that we couldn't really control. I joke that Bush II owes me alimony. Glad that you & HH managed to get back together.

    1. Somebody wiser than I said that there's no cure for stupid and I think a LOT of the election rhetoric is based on prejudice. I worry a lot more about stupid than race which I truly believe is the case with Obama. When are people going to act like the "Christians" they profess to be?

Making one's funeral plans is so darned practical and so dicey to do. I've totally buried my head in the sand for now regarding politics. Hope you are feeling OK.

  14. I applaud you for your thoughtfulness and diligence in tying up loose ends. So maybe people avoid doing that. I remember in a death and dying class I took years ago, the teacher said that people avoid making their wills and getting life ins because they feel it could be death producing. We did our wills in our 30s and were relieved because we wanted things taken care of for our then young sons.

The last blog post is interesting. Good idea. My Mom died in April 2009 and I had been writing about her decline that year and one of my readers was a dear lady ...a retired nurse, from across the pond. She never came in to express sympathy about Mom and at first I figured she was busy ..but then got concerned and she had taken ill and died. :( her sister had been keeping people posted and wrapped things up in her blog and posted comments. I was glad to know what happened. I think we diehard bloggers do develop friendships and care about each other. I actually feel sad ..for the few times people have closed a blog. Anyway ..a last post is nice closure. may you never need it though and follow suit with the other women in your family with longevity.

I am sorry you have to go thru more tests. Are they all MRIs? I hope they can either rule their concerns out or fix you so you can move past it.

I find blogging to be relaxing. Of course if writing about politics - then I would not. It's interesting to see the double standard ..with Reagan espousing (with party approval) the same things Obama is being attacked for. They should play that in a commercial for the campaign. I don't think it is fair to use the Romney poor people clip. he didn't mean that. I heard the whole thing and they chopped it for their soundbite and is out of context. The second I heard that ...I knoew they would use that. Sadly ...BOTH parties do this. I appreciate Greta VanSusteren's show because whenever there is something controversial in which both parties take the soundbites that will help them ...even if out of context ...SHE will air the whole video from beginning to end and YOU really can decided after hearing it in it's entirety.

Yes that commercial was good. I thought it helped conservatives ..but can see it was for Obama. I so much want another president in there and so I saw it as a promo for change.

I didn't watch Mar because I just don't like the man. I don't like the kinds of things he says against religion, people in general, etc. he can be funny ..But I really don't think he is a nice guy. John Stewart - I LOVE. Or Colbert. :)
