Always chaotic, my world has been a tad more so than usual so blogging has been sort of relegated to the back burner to my dismay. The bottom line is that I haven't felt well since my trip up North. That said, today's post is an amalgam of what's been rattling around my poor damaged brain.
* I've been involved it the first two 'Occupy Canton' rallies and wish more of my fellow citizens would join us. We don't have an encampment -- most of us are college kids and elders and so we gather on Saturdays. We're trying to make it grow as best we can. My sign reads:
The Corrupt . . . FEAR US
The Honest. . . . SUPPORT US
The Heroic. . . . JOIN US
We are the 99%
* The Vatican has issued a statement supporting economic justice in light of the 'Occupy' protests around the world and y'all can read about it here. We've got the Pope on our side now! I hope that John Boehner, Paul Ryan, et al get excommunicated. Greed is is one of the Seven Deadly Sins and there are a couple others that also apply so His Holiness can throw the Book at 'em.
* I'm in the process of exploring the possibility of participating in Bank Transfer Day, November 5th and moving my meager funds to a credit union. The trick is having to change all the bills I pay online as well as my direct deposits changed. I don't particularly relish it but since they keep charging fees on my meager savings account, I think it's a pretty good idea. Read more about this movement here.
* On the medical front, I have been a pin cushion between the EMG and an even dozen tubes of A negative -- and, hopefully, all will help Dr. Jody will be able to define what might give me some relief. I also had a bone scan and and Dr. K. sent a note telling me to increase my daily calcium to 1500 mg which says that the osteoporosis is getting worse in my left hip. I see Dr. Maria on Thursday and I hope she has some ideas to help and that Dr. Jody has some advice, too. when I visit him next week for the results.
* Bill Maher on Obama's takedown of Gaddhafi -- it's less than a minute and I loved it. Hope y'all do, too!
* Here's Bill again -- about a minute -- on the Occupy movement. It's a tad bawdy so if y'all get the vapor over profanity.
* And here's my Hero, Bernie Sanders, speaking the truth on the jobs crisis in four minutes. "Intellectually bankrupt" is the key phrase.
That's about it in my world. I visited lots of y'all yesterday but I won't say that I'm caught up because I never am -- you are a prolific lot!!!!
Happy Blogging!!!!!
Kay
I like my credit union. We've been members since we lived in Columbus years and years ago. It's a lot of bother, but worth it I think. Good luck and good health, too. Hope you get some answers soon.
ReplyDeleteSay you want a revolution
ReplyDeleteWe better get on right away
Well you get on your feet
And out on the street
Singing power to the people
Power to the people
Power to the people
Power to the people, right on
A million workers working for nothing
You better give ’em what they really own
We got to put you down
When we come into town
Singing power to the people
Power to the people
Power to the people
Power to the people, right on
-John Lennon
Love Bill & Bernie :)
ReplyDeleteHope the doc visit is postive for you. Holding good thoughts :)
Love Bill....thanks. Hope you are feeling better soon sweetie....I know how you feel about all the doctor stuff. I just went through a bunch of stuff too...UGH. Sending you lots of love and hugs... ~Joy
ReplyDeleteSorry your health challenges seem to be getting worse. But I'm impressed that you went to Occupy Canton. My daughter, grandson and his girlfriend sat in on Sunday in L.A. I did watch the first Bill Maher clip and it was funny. Don't mess with Obama--although all of us in L.A. wish he would stop coming into town at 5 p.m. for fund-raisers. The traffic is unbelievable. He's going to lose votes here if he doesn't stop it.
ReplyDeleteKay, Well YOU are my poster girl for Elder Participation. Thank you, thank you from all of us at the fringes. You GO, girl--and best outcome with the doctor.
ReplyDeleteAlice: Thanks!!!! I hope I can feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteColleen: I almost added that video because it's so apropos!!! However, i decided I had enough video.
LTTS: Thanks!!!!
Joy: We need to talk one of these days!!!
Fran: 'Gangsta Ninja president' left me giggling. I just feel a need to stand for what I believe.
I like my credit union too, and I bet once you change, you won't be sorry.
ReplyDeleteLove the videos.
Hope you feel better soon.
Alice--You took the words out of my mouth. I've had credit union accounts all but 9 years since 1959. I still belong to two of 'em.
ReplyDeleteKay--If you ever need blood, give me a jingle since I am your type. Let's hope that all of those vials of your blood start giving you better results!
Cop Car
CC: Thanks!!! Since I learned that A- is rather rare, I try to donate a few times a year.
ReplyDeleteAlice: I used to belong to the credit union when I worked for Ohio Bell back when they weren't full service. I think it's a good idea in these days of greed.
Hi, Kay. Glad to see you back and hope the physical problems get taken care of. When I moved up here I found a small. family-owned, community bank and have been absolutely satisfied with it. I did have a Bank of America account once--by accident. BoA bought out my small bank. I got rid of that account as a matter of convenience--they weren't so I closed my account. I would have done that on a matter of principle today.
ReplyDeleteKay: It's important for us elders to get to the demos. I'm glad you are doing this in spite of health problems, etc.
ReplyDeleteWe are also participating when and where we can.
We did the bank to credit union changeover months ago. With some advanced work listing billing names and numbers and direct deposit items, it wasn't bad at all.
ReplyDeleteThose big banks are still there, but we feel good about having done something concrete to show our unhappiness with their shameful behavior.
I guess we just don't have the patience to wait for the goodies from the top to trickle down to the rest of us 99 percenters. "You may delay, but time will not" Benjamin Franklin.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry you aren't bounding about with better health. I'm feeling like you right now...slowed down a lot. Just glad to see ya.
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely giving strong thoughts to switching to a credit union. I think Dick Klade has a good point - a little advance work (and planning) should make it easier. My only problem is that while I do most everything online, my bank is only a few short blocks away. I can even walk. I'm not sure the $4.00 fee they will charge me won't be eaten up by time and gas it takes to get to the nearest credit union, which is miles away. Lazy, I guess.
ReplyDeleteKay, I love your sign.
When you haven't posted for a few days, I worry a little. I keep hoping you will be feeling better soon. I'm listening to random music right now and Amazing Grace is playing. You are graced, dear Kay, even when it feels like you could use more.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the clips. I have been a Bill Maher fan for many years. Hope your dr. appt. goes well.
ReplyDeleteWow! You sure have been busy! I'm trying to catch up on my blog visiting, but it's been hard. We're still getting caught up on house/family stuff since we returned from Illinois a week ago.
ReplyDeleteWay to go Kay! I've been running around the edges of OccupySF and OccupyOakland -- the latter had a quite successful general strike last Weds. Shut down the port with the tacit help of the workers.
ReplyDeleteBusy this weekend trying to elect a Mayor that cares for Sf -- John Avalos. We'll see.
Be well!
I am so far behind in blogging that I will never catch up and I apologize. You are remarkable for keeping current in spite of illness and protesting. Good for you, Kay.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could drop Chase Bank and move my money to a credit union. Chase has an outlet in my grocery store and I have no way to get to a credit union so I am forced to stay with the big bank. It galls me.
