Quickie Post -- Photo Editor???

Some of my photos really came out lousy so I have a question. What is the best free photo editor? I use Firefox these days and sure as hell can't spend $670 for Photoshop. There used to be a free version that I used to use but it seems that greed has taken over. Sigh. I need to clean up some of Ana's photo. It's hard to get a decent photo amid a bunch of kids. Sigh.

Happy Blogging!!!!!

  1. Have you tried Photobucket? It's free.

  2. Betty: It's photo-sharing -- not editing but thanks for trying to help!!!

  3. Kay, I actually use three, because some do one thing well and another do another thing better. It isn't unusual for a photo to have been tweaked and shaped in three different editors before I'm satisfied with the results.

Photobucket, Google's Picasa, and the free paint.net (which is most like photoshop and the hardest to use). Have fun, dear, and let me know if I can help with anything specific.

Oh, and photobucket does, indeed, edit. Crop, modify, text, shape, color saturation and intensity, and even some fun things. I like it for the font capabilities on its text options and for the color options that allow for a set palette, but then also has an unlimited color "wheel" adaptor so I can fine tune color at will.

    Picasa?
I don't do much editing, but it does have some editing capability.

Good luck! Kids are tough to catch in mid action!

  7. Nance, Lorna, AITBR & c: I just got an ugly reminder of why I don't use Picasa anymore and it nearly gave me a stroke. And I don't think I need that.

  8. Late to the subject, but with Snapfish you can edit, share, make things et al. I use them to store shots I use over and over, but once a year you have to buy some. Flickr gives you the best quality shots of any site.

What I do before I download to Snapfish, I use Photoshop Elements. It's only 100 something at Costco VS the 2000 some of the full program, but you have to learn a program. I love my PE and love the results.

  9. PhotoShop Elements is much less expensive than full-on PS. Your camera should have come with a photo editing CD. Here's what PC Mag said last year for free editors: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2371593,00.asp

  12. I use Flickr's pro account (not that I'm a pro but that way I download from the camera and don't worry about file size, plus friends/family can easily access it. The free version worked well for years, but as many pix as I take, it was necessary to drastically resize each picture. I don't know the wisdom in making them big enough to print posters anyway. 4x6 is plenty big enough.
