Yikes!!!!!! Ice Is No Fun!

It's all an adventure in Kay's World. Last night, as I was trying to get caught up on y'all, the power failed: no lights, no heat, no phone, no internet, no cell phone. Needless to say, I was upset -- not to mention cold. After I got done being upset, I bundled myself up properly and put myself to bed under every blanket, quit, throw I own. Fortunately, I was warm enough to get some sleep and had plenty of it.

When I woke up, I the electricity was working and my cell phone is finally charging. Amen and Hallelujah! There's an inch of ice on my sidewalk. I have to find my non-cordless phone and put it somewhere that's easily accessible. The way it was last night was if I had needed help, I couldn't get it. As it was, my cordless phone wouldn't work.

There's an inch of ice on my sidewalk -- and salt doesn't work. Sigh. And there's no end in sight. Bryce is coming over to help today.

I know that our area isn't the only one affected so my sincere sympathy and empathy to all those whose lives have been disrupted by this horrendous storm. We're

I'll be trying to get caught up again today but I'm not feeling well so I'll do as much as I can when I cam.

  2. Kay,
I can't believe how awful the winter weather has been in most of the United States. Please take care and stay safe.

  3. Yikes, is right. We keep and old Ma Bell touch tone phone in the basement just for this type of emergency, too. Thankfully we also have gas heating stoves so when the electricity goes out we are in reasonable shape. Hope you are feeling better soon and it warms up enough for ice removal to commence.

  4. We were without power for 12 days after the ice storm of 2009. We got a lot more sleet and snow with this one and fortunately no power outages. Stay inside, read, watch old movies, and surf the internet until it's over.

  6. Kay, please keep safe. I'm accustomed to winter as an inconvenience, but in your neck of the woods, it's an outright danger. I'll never forget my first step out the door of a friend's home in Alliance, OH. As careful as I thought I was being, I landed on my posterior and slid several feet along the sidewalk.

I don't know if it will help you or not, but we keep a cell phone charge cord that fits a car lighter socket. I know gas is expensive, but there have been times (Hurricane Kay, please keep safe. I know gas is expensive, but there have been times (Hurricane Ike comes to mind) when I cheerfully ran the car a few minutes just to have the cell phone charged when the land line wasn't working.

Houston is forecast to have three days of snow in a row. The last time that happened was in the year of my birth, and I'm now 62...

  7. (Oops. On this end, that second paragraph pretty well got scrambled. Sorry if that happened in the posted version.)

  8. I'm glad you were able to stay warm. I have an old sleeping bag for that purpose.

  10. I seldom remember to keep my phone charged; when I do, I leave it at home.

  11. Oh dear! I'm so sorry, Kay. I do well remember the ice on the sidewalk problem. I've got a post ready to go for tomorrow about the snow in the Chicago area. My daughter said they had a ton of snow but at least it wasn't ice. At least I don't think so. Take care and remember not to overdo.

  12. Hey, Kay, keep warm and definitely take it easy. We got a path dug through our patio and car brushed off. Later the snow removal teams from our landlord took care of the rest. Too cold to even think of doing much else. I will take care of clearing the garbage tote tomorrow. I have no idea where I will put the snow.
