A Lovely Night Out

Good old AQ!!!! He remembered that today is my 63rd birthday! And that puts him on a very short list. He and Jeff are the only ones who remembered. Thanks, Hal!!!!

Last night was pretty amazing. (No pictures because until I get my dental issues resolved, I won't allow it. I am not looking even close to my best as I can't smile.) However, my ensemble was pretty and Jeff was properly impressed when he came to fetch me and that was a surprise in itself. He hired a limo! I was stunned because I thought we'd be going in the Crossfire (his toy). When I asked where we were going that required such elegance, he just told me to be quiet and wait. When we headed north on the freeway toward Akron, we talked about our day and I marvelled at all the construction going on. In Ohio we have two seasons: winter and road work. Neither is fun. I realized where we were going when our driver exited at Bath, Ohio just north of Akron. It is home to what is arguably the finest, most elegant restaurant in Ohio. All I could say is, "Wow!" and "Why?" He laughed. It's not the sort of place where people hang out unless they are super-rich which made me more insecure than I was already despite having been there before.

After the valet got the car doors and told our driver where to park, he took us to the maitre di who said our timing was perfect because our table was ready. I am always amazed at the impeccable service and our waiter brought our pre-dinner drinks and menus quickly. Jeff explained that he hired the limo because of Ohio's nasty DUI laws and he wanted us to have wine with dinner. Their menu is really rather ordinary but the quality is par excellence. I ordered the filet of salmon with dill sauce and Jeff ordered the rack of lamb and asked for the wine list. I'm not a purist on the "white wine with fish" thing as I prefer red wine so I didn't mind when Jeff ordered a bottle of Bordeaux for us. I was shocked at the prices on wine the list but I kept my mouth closed -- they don't need to know what an unsophisticated hick I am!!! It was a wonderful dinner! Everything was simply perfect. We finished with liquers and coffee. Dinner at Lanning's isn't just a meal -- it's an experience. And I could get used to the experience. LOL Afterword we met his partner and his wife and went dancing at their country club. I love them so it was great fun!

And yeah, we had our talk and, to be honest, I'm not talking about it until I have mulled it over and we talk some more. When I got home my mind was reeling so I put a movie in the DVD player and fell asleep. I woke up an hour later feeling awful with blurred vision and shaking and I was scared. I took my panic attack meds and put myself to bed. I still feel lousy so Jeff is going to bring supper and we're going to watch movies. It sucks to be sick on your birthday.

Hope y'all are having a great day!!!!

Happy Blogging!!!!!

Kay

  11. Wow... what a lovely evening. Of course, I would have been all over the limo - wanting to know how the stereo worked and what kind of mileage it got. Good thing you went to dinner with one who is NOT a geek!

  16. I'm just so glad you had a great time. It's ok, to be afraid, but not sick on your birthday....Many hugs..many happy's. So very happy for the magic moments.

And too, you can smile, but you have to laugh with a covered mouth. I'm practicing that right now with that frontal tooth gap.

My husband and I just returned from being away, or I would have sent you a more timely birthday wish! He also got sick (with a relapse of the bad cold) on his birthday. I am glad that you had a wonderful day. Here's hoping you have many, many more!

  21. I'm late to the party, but I am so glad you had such an elegant evening. I have never ridden in a limo. That would have been enough excitement for one evening. Happy Belated, Kay.

  22. Sorry to make it so late to your birthday, but I sure hope it was nice. The dinner sounds scrumptious! The birth date means you're a taurus too? I am as well. I wonder if people think you're stubborn like Hubby says I am!? Not stubborn, I just know what I want and don't want. I'm betting you do, too!
