Another Take on the Tiger

When I was in my 20s, my friends and I were fans of the morning show on WGAR, a Cleveland radio station. The wacky host who kept us laughing as we drove to work was Don Imus who went on to fame and fortune as WNBC's morning drive time host. He weighed in yesterday on Brit Hume's pathetic remarks directed to Tiger Woods. The only thing he said that I disagree with is that Brit Hume is a brilliant journalist. My take is that a truly brilliant journalist wouldn't would make the sort of remarks Hume made. Here's the video:

All I wanna know is what happened to "fair and impartial" journalism? Do they still teach it in college? Can any of y'all imagine Walter Cronkite, David Brinkley or Chet Huntley making statements like that? I long for the days when the news media pretty much left a man's (or woman's) faith alone. I'm glad Imus called Hume out on this even though he's sold his soul to Fox News.

And if any of you feel a burning need to call me out and tell me that Christianity is the only path to God, remember that I am a renegade Catholic and believe that we all find our own path to God whether we call him God, Yahweh, Buddha, Allah or the Great Wazoo. Also remember that one of my favorite quotes is:

"I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians. They are so unlike your Christ." -- Mahatma Gandhi

I think Brit Hume embodies why Gandhi said that.

  1. Hi Kay . . .

Appreciate your comments. Also like the way Ron Paul sorts out this nonsense we call politics. I read his book END THE FED and came away a convert. I think you might enjoy it even if the title sounds stuffy.

    Happy New Year

  3. It is statements like Brit Hume's that make all Christians look goofy. Gandhi's quote is my all time favorite. Thanks for posting this video. I had not heard the hype.

  4. I like Imus although I never see his show given the hour it is on out here but I thought he got an unfair deal when they got him fired from his MSNBC show. He seems like a good man to me.

  5. Ghandi's quote on Christians is in my opinion most approrpriate for the religious right wing advocates.

I find it impossible to attend church or to believe in that kind of atrocious interpretation of the philosophy of Christ.

Fox news is very frightening in its half-truths and blatant fear-mongering techniques. And to think people really listen and believe in folks like Glenn Beck and Brit Hume.

I believe or rather hope that good journalism will return.

  6. I agree with you, and I call myself a Christian, although I don't always act like one. I love the Ghandi quote.

  8. Dixon: Thanks!!!! I've read Paul's books -- he makes sense.

Kay: LOL You are much nicer than I am!

Annie: You betcha!!! And I believe that Jesus and God love sinners -- they made so many of us.

Rain: He's always been a pretty straight shooter.

    Maria: You said it!

Judy: None of us are perfect. However, I don't think you have a mean bone in your body.

Linda: Me, too! I can't shoot creeps like Hume, so I rant here!!!!

  9. This is a great post. Thanks for the Gandhi quote. I've thought for a long time that churches are full of people who are trying, in every sense of the word. (Many of them try my patience.)

Thanks for your comments on my blog. I've learned so much about courage from things you've written. I love how "real" you are!

  12. My sentiments too, Kay. I still think that PBS is the best place to go for in depth reporting--specifically the Jim Lehrer evening news show.

  13. Sometimes, you just wanna choke some folks, and shake some sense into them.

TV journalists can be as bad as televangelists.

  15. Brett: I don't care what pastors say. Brett Hume is an idiot and guilty of at least one of the 7 deadly sins. I don't suffer fools gladly and his sanctimonious pronouncement was that of a damned fool.

  18. I am so sick of the way Fox news operates. What a group of bullies and immature cheerleaders. When will people wake up and ask for clear, concise, and honest reporting.
