Monday, Monday

Last night was symphony night and since I have season tickets I went despite my inclination to stay home between my dental work and just not plain feeling well. I'm so glad I went because the program was outstanding from start to finish!!!!!

It opened with a fabulous rendition of Aaron Copeland's "Appalachian Spring" with our excellent Assistant Conductor taking the podium. I love to watch him conduct -- his enthusiasm is contagious and I love to see someone enjoying their work. Here's the "Simple Gifts" section of the work that I found on YouTube. It shows why Copeland is one of my favorite composers.

Next Maestro Zimmerman took the podium and our gifted young Concertmaster performed Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No. 2 in G minor, Opus 63 and, as always, gave a marvelous with this interesting and challenging piece. I'm not sure exactly why but I always enjoy the Russian composers.

This wonderful evening ended with Maurice Ravel's lovely "Daphnis and Chloe Suites 1 & 2" from the ballet by the same name and it was another triumph for our orchestra. All of us were enthusiastic in our applause.

I was delighted when talking with others after the program that they found the program as thrilling as I did. It was a welcome respite from my real world.

Today I'm on the phone seeking information and off on errands this afternoon.
Tomorrow is doctor day with the endocrinologist so I'm filling out all of the paperwork -- yuck!!!!!

I hope y'all are having a great day!!!!!

Happy Blogging!!!!!!!!!!

  2. I love the Russian composers, too. I am especially fond of Tchaikovsky, Rimsky-Korsakof and Borodin. I wish I could hear them again.

I hope your medical problems get solved and you feel better.

There is nothing like live symphony music. Living in the country is a disadvantage. When we were younger we did not have the money or time to drive to the city for such entertainment. Now we have the time but do not drive any distance after dark.
There are still CDs and public radio. Often when I listen to a good recording I think how fortunate we are to live in such times. In the past one had to be royalty to command the performance I enjoy at the push of a button

Good luck with the docs (doctors and papers:) )

  7. I am so glad you went to that concert Kay. Music can transport you someplace else and take you away from your troubles in such a beautiful way....and what a wonderful concert it was. I love Aaron Copeland and how can you go wrong with anything by Ravel. I love many pieces by the Russian composers as well....great stuff. Good choice to go Kay.

Good luck with getting through your medical mumbo-jumbo sweetie. Feel better very soon. ~Joy

  8. Glad you went to lift your spirits. This is one of our hardest seasons because it's supposed to be so wonderful. Just keep in mind spring is coming. I hope you have good results from the endocrinologist. That might make a huge difference for you.

  9. Copeland is one of my favorites and I loved listening to the U Tube version of "Simple Gifts" which is a good reminder during this season of gift giving.

So glad you decided to get out of the house inspite of not feeling well. I know this is difficult, but very important to your well-being.

I hope everything goes well on your doctor's visit and will be waiting to hear the results.
