Amazing Day!!!

* I am home -- finally. I am tired. My mind ran the gamut of emotions and the longggg day ended on really great positive note with a great group of people. It was our 4th Annual Celebrate Neighborhoods and Meet the Candidates Night sponsored by the non-partisan political committee of which I am secretary.

And despite our chairman's best efforts to screw things up by creating havoc and offending many, we pulled it off. I was there allllll day helping with setup of the civic center as well as my neighborhood association's display. The wrap-up meeting in two weeks is gonna be a humdinger as many of us on the committee are not happy.

I took pictures and will be posting some tomorrow along with tales of my encounters. Probably the funniest was when the Mayor who was to give the welcome speech arrived at the last minute. I thought Scott and the kids were gonna choke when I greeted him with, "It's about damned time you got here!" Hey! When he was a teenager, he bagged my groceries and after one year in office he's blown the three million dollar surplus in our city's budget. The Peter Principle (Remember that? "Everyone rises to their level of incompetency.") is alive and well. I want the woman who held the office and left him that surplus back! What a lady!!!

A group of us went out for a snack and an adult beverage afterward and had a great time laughing and talking about the event.

* I want to address quickly the questions posed by Fran and Granny Annie. No, I don't know who publishes Straight Talk on McCain. The beauty of the blogosphere is anonymity. What I do know about the author from a comment he (yes he -- he mentioned his wife in several posts) left me today is that he is a librarian and a trained researcher. I had already guessed that from the careful documentation and many links he provides and it is why I recommended this blog. I don't believe campaign literature or speeches -- both are skewed to show the candidate in the best possible light. I was taken by the clarity and credibility of the sources he/she cited. And no, Rolling Stone is no longer a hippie rock rag -- they have grown up to provide intelligent, well-documented commentary on important issues from responsible journalists. If you would like to contact the author there is an email address where he invites us to contact him. I have further thoughts on this and may decide to comment further as this has raised some questions in my mind.

Happy Blogging!!!!!!!!!!!
