Last night my compladres and I met at a fav watering hole, jumped in the van of our D.D. and went out to the Fairgrounds (they charge five bucks to park) for the ribs burnoff to pig out on ribs and assorted other goodies from some of the top purveyors in the country! As usual the food was incredible and my good intentions to not sample too much went right out the window. I always get Armadillo's wonderful ribs but this year I succumbed to getting a couple bones from Desperado's and Smokin' Joe's Hog Wild -- the last 'cause the name made me laugh. All were outstanding -- don't even ask me which I liked best. I did, however, skip dessert despite New Orleans-style beignets being available.
My restraint was partly due to concern for my waistline and partly my contention that the only way to eat beignets is at 7 a.m. at Cafe du Monde in New Orleans with a large coffee. It's a memory I treasure from my misspent youth and hope to relive one day before I die.
We later moved to the grandstand for .38 Special's performance. Boy! Those guys are getting old!!!! (And I, of course, am not. LOL) The good news is their sound is still excellent and they seem to still be having fun and get the crowd rockin'! We loved it!!!!
Here's a video of my favorite song by these guys! Enjoy!
Tomorrow night we'll haul out our cowboy hats for Joe Diffey after we chow down on more ribs!
Sorry I'm not getting around to see y'all -- it's been an incredibly busy week. I'm looking forward to Sunday -- I need a rest!!!!!!
Happy Blogging!!!!!!!!
Kay
Enjoy yourself Kay!
ReplyDeleteThey wouldn't by any chance have low cholesterol ribs on the menu would they?
I am so jealous that you can eat ribs.
I miss them ---lots.
Bear((( )))
Jealousy here too:-)
ReplyDeleteTrust me -- this is a once a year thing. What's the fun of being on a diet (low cholesterol) if you don't cheat once in a while?
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you passed up beignets!! I had them at Cafe du Monde, but not at 7am (more like 10am).
ReplyDeleteDon't you love the way these old acts have been revived on the state fair, casino circuit? This summer we've had Steely Dan, Anita Baker, and a lot more come through the state.
ReplyDeleteoooooo, beignets! I LOVE beignets!! I've never had the joy of eating them in New Orleans (though I'd love to get the chance!), but we discovered them in the New Orleans area at Disneyland years ago.
ReplyDeleteDid you know you can get the authentic mix direct from Cafe Du Monde (ONLINE, no less!) and whip up a batch of your own right at home? I've done this several times and the recipe is so easy you can even split it and make smaller batches (but why not make a batch, make some good coffee and invite a friend or two!)
Here's the link to get the mix:

(they have a video demo too)
Enjoy
Bev: Way cool -- and noted!
ReplyDeleteJudy: Then you know what I mean -- you can't beat the ambience!
Virginia: Yeah, buddy! And it's fun watching the kids look at us elders rockin'! Heck we evented what they just discovered!!!! LOL
lets see now, guess I know MY place in the order of things---you would rather go out partying, eating ribs, and soaking up the good old rock and roll performances than stay home and exchange comments with strangers---(sigh)----what kind of blogger ARE YOU!!??----(damn those ribs sound super good, mmmmph)
