Update and a Few Notes

I spent a lot of time today on home stuff which is good because it means that I'm keeping my promise to myself. Housework is difficult for me. I'm not complaining -- it's just been a fact of life for the last 30+ years but the frustration never really goes away. Question: What's your fav heavy duty floor cleaner? I'm unhappy with mine and if y'all have one you like, do tell!!!

I watched two movies last might from Netflix. The first was a documentary type called "Public Speaking" and featured one of my favorite writers: Fran Liebowitz. If y'all aren't familiar with her, she's a hoot and comes armed with a rapier wit!! (Note to Betty and M.E.: She's your kind of gal.) The second was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II. It's the end of that series and I thought okay it was pretty good but prolly scared the bejaysus outta some little ones. It's my least fav of the series which I mostly thought great fun.

I was taken to task for my anger with the Republicans and I'm not going to apologize. If y'all are setting pretty in your Golden Years, I'm happy for you but I'm not due to handicaps, divorce and other er . . . ah . . . stuff and I'm worried about my future with what the aforementioned would like to do to the programs that keep me alive, fed, housed and blogging. Sigh.

My eye surgeon sent a report on to Dr. Maria re: eye problem and I'll be getting tests done on my carotid artery. Sounds scary to me but her nurse says that it's pretty much a no-brainer. I'll let y'all know if she lied.

Next week is also mammogram week which I take very seriously as my mom is a breast cancer survivor. If any of y'all are not covered, check around. Mine were taken care of a group called The Pink Robbin Project when I lacked insurance so check around if you need help. I donate a tenner or more to them every year at this time in thanks -- it's my favorite charity.

February is coming! If it's like January, it might put to rest any doubts I had about global warming. I don't think we've had a true blizzard this winter -- yet -- and I've hardly worn boots or glove.

Here's my hero Bernie Sanders on helping elders:

Here's  Jon Stewart in 2008 with less that two minutes of funny on Mitt Romney!

Hope y'all are having a great day!!!

Happy Blogging!!!!!

  1. I think the Republicans are too often on TV – they are making everyone pessimistic about the country and they are clueless. I am afraid that the people who don’t think for themselves might believe them. I don’t want to hear them anymore and I usually turn the TV to something else – like the weather. But every morning I watch the rerun of Jon Stewart's show from the night before.

I had a test on my carotid artery, my husband had too, it is nothing and they do it often to make sure everything is OK. Have a great week-end and relax.

  2. I agree and thanks for a needed dose of French practicality!!! I always am a tad nervous about a procedure I've never had before but the Foundation where I get my care only hires the best so I know I'm in good hands.

  3. I sympathize with you on the cleaning. We hate housework and only do it when the spirit moves. We are thankful that the spirit doesn't move often. Over the last ten years we have changed our model of vacuum three times. First, we got rid of our old canister type because it was getting harder to get bags and belts for it, and it was getting too heavy for us to handle. Also because of its age (20 years) it was no longer picking up as well as it once did. Then we got an upright but after only a few years found it was as hard to handle and the parts were hard to find. They keep changing the styles and phasing out the parts for the older models. Then we got a light weight canister that never worked well and was not powerful enough to clean at all well. Finally, we got a bag less upright that is light enough to handle and powerful enough to do the job. We found it on sale at Best Buy and I think they were phasing that model out.

Don't apologize for your attitude toward the Republicans--or as I call them 'Repthuglicans.' The ones the news keep the focus on deserve all the criticism they get.

I am glad you are getting the medical tests done. Better safe than sorry.

    1. My mother was Mrs. Clean and Ma Guilt so I am learning to not be as picky. I figure if I attempt daily to do better, I'll save myself and my ever-frayed nerves some stress.

  4. Hope the test results are ok.Having had cataract surgery also I will watch for that.I was told by my eye doctor that possibly in five years time a film may form on the back of an implant causing colours to look faded but laser treatment will correct this.

  5. Isn't it awful how so much of our time now is taken up with doctor visits? Sigh...

    1. I have Panasonic that picks up everything but a sailor on Saturday night -- Thank God. The last I did that I got married! :)

I boycott anything Hoover: The company was founded in my county and they closed 3 plans here and laid off a lot of good people. Boss Hoover (the founder/inventor) has gotta be rolling in his grave

  7. Good for you by refusing to apologize for taking the Republicans to task. They deserve it for the mess they have made of our country. I find they are going off the rails these days and are even scaring themselves.

I hope the test is okay. I think it's a piece of cake.

    1. I just call 'em like I see 'em. And I'll be fine. Better to have things checked. 'Carotid artery' is just one of those scary terms.

  8. I don't agree with the Republicans, but I don't hate them. Actually, I get more angry at the Dems. Why? Because I can't take the Reps. seriously, but I do take the Dems. seriously -- and many of them have serious problems, including the fact that they clearly distain anyone who doesn't agree with them.

But, now, on to the important stuff -- take care of those eyes and those mamms, and don't worry about cleaning the floor.

All--Oh, darn! If Kay won't apologize for her anger at the Republicans, I guess I must apologize for having written a comment that was so poorly constructed that it seemed I thought she should apologize. As I wrote in another comment on the previous posting (paraphrasing): my bad!

Kay--Thanks for the videos! (And for your passionate interest in making things better.)

  12. I don't worry so much about cleaning my floors--but I do try and keep a step ahead of nasty. I bought one of those small steam cleaners (SHARK) and use nothing but plain water in it. I got it from Best Buy for about $69. It takes me about 10 minutes to do my kitchen floor, and leaves no streaks. The only drawback is it's a tad short and I have to bend a little bit, so if you're tall (I'm 5'4") it might bother your back. It's very lightweight though, and it is fast--takes less time the more often you use it. Living alone, you probably don't have that much dirt anyhow!

  13. I'm not upset with you -- no apology needed. You said what you thought. I still love you. I'm just an unrepentent liberal/progressive who is disgusted at what's happening in this country and the damn fools in both parties. If I'm really honest neither party is gonna do a damned thing for me. Poor old ladies don't count but I'm making noise anyway.

Kay--Thanks! I do take small quibble, however. Just because one is not upset with me does not mean that they don't merit an apology from me. *smiling*

  16. I'm with you on the Republican Clown Car. I cannot understand why so many people of modest means are so passionately supporting them. Is it not clear what their end goal is? Whey have stated it clearly enough.

Fran Liebowitz is one of my all time favorites too. I wish she was still writing for Vanity Fair as I looked forward to seeing her essays every month. There are few essayists now writing whose work I enjoy so much.

As for the cleaning - I use my Dyson Animal and follow up with the Shark steam cleaner. I am not crazy about those powerful cleaning chemicals.

  18. Very Funny! I Love Jon Stewart! And I'm a conservative. :)

Btw - I am one of those conservatives that is just not warming up to him and i just don't feel it. Some things yes. But, I lean toward the other 2. Pros and cons for all ...but just something about him.

And he is a handsome man, seems nice enough (I'm not even talking policy here but his affect) and then one day I heard someone describe him as a robot that if you peeled his skin away it would be all robotic hardware underneath and so this clip underscores that. Funny and seemingly true.
