Nobody Likes a Crybaby

I have been in serious Cranky Old Broad mode (as if being sick and buried in snow wasn't enough) ever since I saw Leslie Stahl's overly sympathetic interview of soon-to-be House Majority Leader John Boehner. It really made me angry.

This idiot astounds me!!! He's only two years younger than I am and I understand how he grew up because I came from a blue collar family and I don't complain about it -- it's just how it was for lots of us. It galls me that he makes a big deal out of only one bathroom. In those days *everyone* only had one bathroom and there were a lot of big families unlike today. I know a lot of middle class folks who are having a really difficult time adjusting to their reduced circumstances when the policies in this country destroyed their lives. It happened to my husband and I and I adjusted easier than he did because of my upbringing.

And oh hell!! I went to mass every morning before school, too -- it was part and parcel of going to Catholic school. It wasn't a big deal. We survived it. We also went to confession every week. It's just how it was growing up in the 50s! I think it's tacky that he even brings it up! And Leslie played to it and treated him with kid gloves. I was waiting for her to say "Poor baby!!!!" or kneel in homage.

And yeah, we all had chores that varied according to how big our families were. Somewhere that disappeared when someone somewhere decided that a work ethic was child abuse. I was lucky -- my chores were a piece of cake because my mother was/is a perfectionist and didn't give us anything too difficult. My least favorite chore was cleaning my dresser drawers every week -- not because it was difficult -- but because if they didn't pass muster, they were dumped out anf I had to start over!!! Yuck!!! (And my kids wonder why I'm obsessive-compulsive). When I became a teenager, my favorite job was mowing the grass. It was a time when I could think without interruption. My sister decided one day to get in my face one day while I was mowing and man-oh-man did I catch hell when I said, "You do it!" and walked away. And yeah, I worked crappy jobs and got scholarships so I could go to college, too. Big deal. Not! I'm proud that I did it and my kids did the same because their dad lost his job when they were in high school.

Boehner annoys me because he's a hypocrite. While he likes to talk and cry about how tough his life was as a poor kid, his actions in Congress decry (pun intended) any sympathy he has for us ordinary mortals. He supports and votes for tax cuts for billionaires while the people of his hometown suffer.

(Cranky Old Broad mode off) I hope I'll be back tomorrow with updates and not cranky.

Hope y'all are having a great day!!!! Happy Blogging!!!!!!!!!

Kay

  1. He needs to learn the quivering lip trick from Jimmy Swaggart. It would make Mr. Boner a lot more convincing (snicker).

  2. I totally agree. Living in Cincinnati with the man sometimes creeps me out. And I only had one bathroom in the house growing up too; an outhouse story would be impressive.

It's obvious false sentiment, as one of the ways you can tell a liar is that you get too much detail in their fabricated story. He's so disingenuous that with John, the constant return to the "hard times" and tears still comes across as "We only had one Porche in the driveway and one colored person in the slave quarters."

  3. Not only did the middle class only have one bathroom, most of us had to work our way through college. So, what's the big deal?

  4. I just can't wrap my brain around politics anymore. It wears me out, makes me crazy!

  5. Jon: Good idea!!! I'm ready to send him vid of Frankie Valli and the 4 Seasons doing "Big Frls Don't Cry" !!! LOL

Ricky: Outhouse stories? My grandparents (up in Wisconsin) still had an outhouse when I was growing up) and when my dad was a kid in central Ohio, his dad farmed as well as working for the railroad and they had an outhouse.
And yeah, I think you're right about lying. LOL

tnlib: Exactly!!! College was expensive and even the rich kids had summer jobs for their pocket money.

That guy can cry. So disgusting. Hopefully, he'll be drummed out of Congress one of these days. Don't dare tell him to run for president! lol.

  7. I grew up the same way as you and him and I knew a lot of people who grew up a lot harder. I don't know much about this man and it is beginning to sound like the less I know the better. You'll keep me up-to-date, I know.

  8. poor baby -- we only had one bathroom too -- and there have been some times in my married life that my husband, my daughter and I lived in ONE ROOM and shared a bath with other house members when my husband was unemployed for almost 3 years -- this whole government situation has me alternating between nausea and rage!

  9. I didn't see the interview. Bohner disgusts me most of the time so I decided to give it a miss. From what I have heard since my time was much better spent with a night of my own dvds. His 'disadvantaged' upbringing doesn't cut any ice. My grandparents, like yours, Kay, had an outhouse and cold running water. Hot water was heated on the kitchen stove. I could go on but won't. What that crybaby 'suffered' was just normal. And I don't think it makes him an 'ordinary' American by a long shot.

  10. Thanks for the video -- he seemed to be in breakdown mode with all that crying. Is he stable enough to run the House? Personally, I believe politicians are in another world -- far apart from ordinary citizens of this country. He cried about children -- let us see if he really helps kids in education, health and food lunches. It looks like a rough future ahead for this whole country -- hold on -- barbara

  11. Jan: It make me crazy, too, so I vent here.

gigi: he's going to be Speaker of the House in January. This is not good for any of us.

Fran: Just as long as you understand that he isn't on the side of the angels.

Bev: Wow!!! You've done your time in hell. Just remember that 'nausea and rage' are the proper response to this guy.

Mary: He's an embarassment to the great State of Ohio and this country. Just from reading your blog and seeing how frugal you are (and like me, have to be) I know that you and I have a similar background.

Barbara: Thanks for coming by. I'll return the honor. I agee with you implicitly.

  12. I normally watch "60 Minutes" but when I heard he was going to be interviewed, given my personal distain for the man I wasn't quite sure I could overcome that and watch.

I did finally decide to watch (an indication of just how little is on tv anymore)and my jaw is still dragging the floor. He was my poster boy for "AH" - so where did that quivering lip crap come from?

I haven't changed my opinion of the man in the least but I remain seriously speechless with regard to that interview. I hope this isn't too crude but watching him in that interview was like watching the devil give communion!

  13. Oh, cripes. One bathroom. Boo hoo. We had one bathroom and a coffee can in the garage for emergencies. And we had to walk two miles to school and it was uphill both ways.

  14. Hey, I sure do agree with you. We had one and a half bath's tho. LOL Morning song and even song when I went to an Episcopal school. Not only did we survive it, sometimes we grew to like parts of it....like the singing.

Hugs....and a happy holiday to you.

  15. Alan: Indeed!!!! The analogy is perfect!!!! I am embarassed that he is an Ohioan.

Hattie: What galled me most is how Stahl fed his self-pity. This crap from the guy who passed out checks from the tobacco lobby on the House floor. I am ashamed of his district for re-electing him.

  16. Maggie: You are so right!!! I kinda liked mass each morning -- it helped me get focused for the day being the hyper tomboy I was.

  17. Not to pull the more-deprived-than-thou card, but I started out sans any bathroom, and we lacked electricity and running water as well, yet my family wasn't the poorest in our rural Mississippi area by a long shot.

What Bush II said to a wealthy audience is true for Republicans in general: "Some people call you the elite; I call you my constituency." So, why is is that the poorest regions in the whole damn country are the most staunchly Republican?

  18. You've got his number. As for bathrooms, we didn't even have an indoor bathroom until I was a third grader. I forget if it was Keith Olberman or Lawrence O'donnell, but they had an interesting take on it the next day. We'll have to watch Boehner carefully to understand what he really means since he's a great actor as you can see. UHHHHGGGGGGGGG. I get so pi**sed!

  19. Snow: And that's okay. I'll bet your family was seriously delighted when that changed and appreciated it. I know I truly appreciated indoor plumbing after a week at my grandparents' farm. Boehner is a whiner and if I'll be damned if I'll ever understand why poor people vote GOP.

Alice: See what I said to Snow.
The man is a wart on Congress' butt.

  20. I saw the program on "60 minutes". Well, remember CBS is owned by Big Business.

  21. That man needs a thump on the head. I agree with tnlib.

  22. Now now, folks; we should all be sympathetic to Mr. Boehner. After all, in his youth, he must have been exposed to Agent Orange...

What a wuss. If those are not crocodile tears, they're certainly a crock o' something. And to think members of Congress will have to refer to him as Mr. Speaker. Or should it perhaps be Mr. Spoeker?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Steve: Thanks for coming by!!! He can't blame it on Agent Orange -- he had a deferment because he was a college student. I'm guessing that, because it took him 7 years to get his BA, he took just enough credit hours to keep the draft board away. How do I know this? I was a college student at that time, too, and knew a lot of guys doing all sorts of creative things to avoid going to VietNam. If Boehner had enlisted, he could have had his college paid for by the G.I. Bill. Then again, crybabies don't make it in boot camp.

He reminds me of those who lost their virginity and suddenly realize they didn't know they even had it. Like me. lol

  25. Hell, me and the missus have only one bathroom. A person's worth today in the eyes of the shallow jerks is in how much you got and how much you consume meanwhile you came into the world with nothing and will go out the same way.The worms burrowing into you in the grave don't give a damn how rich you were.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Abe: LOL Perfect!!!! I'm sure you're as ashamed of him as I am.

GFB: I only have one bathroom, too, but I don't need more than one. This guy is gonna be Speaker of the House. The world has got to be laughing at us!!!!

  27. I also grew up in the 50's and 60's, went to Catholic school, had only one bathroom, and life was tough as both parents worked to support the family. Politics has reached the point where it really bothers me, and I see no light at the end of the tunnel for anyone but the rich people!!
Hope you are feeling better physically real soon. Stay warm.

  28. Mare: I agree! Boehner bugs me because he's a hypocrite and doesn't really remember how hard it is to be poor and has as was said back in the 60s, "sold out to the establishment".

    ReplyDelete
  29. I agree with Mare too. May we all be rich--soon.
