After Thanksgiving Thoughts

I hope y'all had an excellent Thanksgiving!! Mine was quiet. I did my volunteer work at the parish and, as always, it was gratifying. Of course, we were busy as you-know-what so I was tired when I got home. I made myself a plate of turkey and trimmings and ate. Had some chest pains that scared me and put myself to bed for a nap. When I woke up, I felt better and I called my stepmother and we talked for a while. She was delighted. I guess none of her many nieces and nephews visited or invited her to share their holiday. I understand how she felt. I did promise her that I will visit come Spring. Ohio winters are not fun for driving.

* I have to get a new planner for the new year. My schedule is filling up with doctor appointments (and not much else) -- yet another sign that I'm getting old and decrepit.

* I had dropped off necessary paperwork at a state agency back at the beginning of October. I never was notified of the changes that were supposed to be made. I called several times about it -- but refuse to sit on 'hold' for more than an 45 minutes (and that does a nasty number on my blood pressure). On Wednesday afternoon I called in hopes that people were getting ready for the holiday and 'hold' would be short. I got lucky and got someone to talk to after five minutes on hold. The young lady checked and yes, I did turn in the paperwork (duh?) and said she was placing me on emergency status -- good stuff, right? -- and someone would call me on . . . Monday. I hollered a lot and will holler again on Monday prolly IF they call as promised. If they don't, I will be on the phone to everyone I can think of to scream and yell. It's been costing me money that I can ill afford and I am done with their baloney.

* I have to get Brice over to bring up a few of the holiday decorations. Maybe it will cure my 'bah! humbug!' frame of mind. I simply can't get excited about holidays anymore. Some motivation might help.

* Dental work was denied and the dentist is resubmitting my claim. Need I say more?

* I sorta broke my Black Friday rule. I actually went shopping on today. However, I didn't go to the malls or The Evil Empire. I went to a Big Lots store located in an old, nearly empty shopping center. Surprisingly, it was a tad busy but manageable.
Unfortunately, I spent a tad more than I planned because they had some books I wanted really cheap! Books are always my downfall. I also bought some ornaments for my lil' Christmas trees. I hope they work. They will have red and silver baubles -- aka scarlet and grey -- in hopes that my Buckeyes win the Rose Bowl!!!!!

* I'm glad y'all enjoyed the old TV stuff -- I had a blast looking at it and trying to decide what to use.

I know I sound cranky and yeah, I guess I am. However, I do always land on my feet and I'll be all right. I'm just tired of not feeling well and dealing with bureaucrats. Hopefully, the docs will help with the former and that will make the latter easier. Pray.

Happy Blogging!!!!!!!!

  1. Good for you for doing that volunteer work, Kay! I keep saying I'd like to do something but I haven't yet. You are my inspiration.

Tomorrow is my turkey day. I should go to bed now so I'll have energy for all I have to do.

  2. Sounds like you're on the way to getting the Christmas spirit. Why am I not surprised you'd pick OSU colors for your ornaments??? Hope they do their stuff for the Rose Bowl game.

That's the pits being placed on phone hold for such long periods of time. Some calls I make will tell me the expected hold time. If I don't like it, I hang up. Other times I gotta talk with them then, so just lean back, relax and make up my mind I'm not going to ruin my health fretting as this falls into the category of things I cannot control right then.

Yeah, you don't want to be scootin' round driving in some of that Ohio winter weather.

That's health care, and dental care -- if the right number codes aren't used, or certain descriptive "buzz" words reviewers look for aren't present -- coverage denied. And.....some people think we don't have rationing now! Hope you get that dental service -- ridiculous if you don't.

  3. I am so not in the Christmas spirit this year. Being laid up for a lot of the year, my mum being diagnosed with breast cancer etc have taken the shine off 2009 a bit for me!

Still I've got my presents.. Hooray for the likes of Amazon!

  4. I applaud you for doing the volunteer work, Kay. I don't do enough of it and I feel guilty. Hope your dental work will be approved and your Christmas spirit improved!

  5. I know you're tired of all this stuff Kay. I just had one of those 'being placed on hold' bouts the other day....for 1/2 hour. I hate that...especially when they tell you an expected waiting time of 5 friggin' minutes...HA! I pretty much told the person I talked to I wasn't very pleased either.

You are always so wonderful about your volunteer work are truly an inspiration sweetie. You don't just talk about it...YOU DO IT....even when you're not feeling well. You are such a good person.

Please get your rest.... Love, Joy

  6. You know, being placed on hold would not be so annoying if they were at least honest about it, "May I put you on permanent hold? Thank-you," followed by one second of silence and then cheesy music.

  7. Books are my downfall as well. Have you ever shopped for them at Sometimes you can find them for a penny and all you have to add is $3.99 for shipping. $4 for a book ain't bad.

And I think it's ridiculous that medicare doesn't include dental care.

Kay--If we never got cranky, would anyone notice that we are still breathing?
When I am put on hold, I put the call on the speaker and get other stuff done while I'm waiting. And, no, I don't hesitate to leave the room. So what if they come back and find me not at their beck and call?

  9. hope things go better for you with the bureaucracy. It can be frustrating to say the least. happy belated thanksgiving

  10. Hope you get the results you need on Monday...
I know what you mean by being grumpy, somedays there is just no other way to be. Then, the next day it is not so bad.....
