Some Things Always Bring a Smile

There really are things in this world that a body never gets tired of and always makes one smile. For me, this film is one of them. I checked the newspaper last night and was delighted to find that The Wizard of Oz was on television! It ranks in the top 10 of of my favorite movies and I never miss it if life doesn't intrude. I'd had a pretty dull day and feeling kind down but watching this never fails to brighten my outlook.

The sheer joy and enthusiasm of Judy Garland and friends as they navigate the Yellow Brick Road is a great buzz! That I don't have it in my vast video collection is amazing but probably because it never appears in the bargain bin or really cheap on eBay. Frugality rules at my house.

Here's a trailer courtesy of YouTube in case you missed it! Enjoy!!!!!!!!!

What movies always make y'all grin?

Happy Blogging!!!!!!!!!!!

A movie I love to cry over is THE LAST TIME I SAW PARIS with Van Johnson and Elizabeth Taylor. They're both very young and beautiful and she dies in it. I haven't seen it in a few years, so I might not feel the same way about it now. I don't tend to cry much in movies anymore, unless animals are being mistreated. For some reason I don't care to keep a collection of movies; that's about the only thing I haven't collected though. Another movie that I'd like to re-view is DEATH TAKES A HOLIDAY.

  3. I always love this film, too. Will watch Miracle on 34th St. and It's a Wonderful Life during the next few weeks. The Wizard of Oz is part of the story within a story in Australia.

    Are you snowed in?

  4. This trailer was really fun to see. It reminded me of seeing Wicked in Chicago. That was rather fun and was supposed to explain a lot about the Wizard of Oz.

  5. Movies that make me grin?

The orginal "Yours, Mine, and Ours" - Lucille Ball & Henry Fonda

"Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House" - everyone going to start construction should be required to watch this at least twice.

"A Christmas Story" - takes me back...

"Welsome to Mooseport" - good one on politics and politicians

"Miss Congeniality" - Sandra Bullock has great comic timing and Michael Caine is perfectly cast

The Thin Man movies and parts of the Columbo series.

I'm sure there are more I'll think of later.

  6. I love "The Wizard of Oz". When I was a kid, they would show it on TV every year on a Sunday night. Because I grew up in a very strict Southern Baptist home, we ALWAYS went to church on Sunday nights. However, my parents would let us stay home from Sunday night church every year so that we could watch "The Wizard of Oz", despite the fact that my dad hated it. (It came out in 1939 when he was just a little kid. When his mother took him to see it in the theater, the Wicked Witch of the West scared him so badly that he had nightmares!)

  7. It's funny you mention old movies, like this classic. I was looking through all the movies on sale at Best Buy yesterday and thought, I need to buy more classics, the movies that come on about once a year...that way I can watch them whenever I want. The Wizard of Oz was not on my list, but it is now. :)

    Hope you're enjoying your Sunday!

  8. Alice: You can't go wrong with Liz & Van! I was sorry to hear he had passes away!

    Jan: neither do I!

Fran: Both of those are great, too! And no we only had about an inch -- Cleveland prolly got buried though.

Kay: Haven't seen that but it sounds like fun!

H et W: Good ones!!!! And I agree on Miss Congeniality. I tend to prefer old movies. Not only was Sandra excellent but the chemistry between her and Benjamin Bratt was great fun!

Lynette: How cool!!! It was a "must watch" at our house and as much as my kids loved it, I'm sure my grands are enjoying it, too!
