A Wondrous Winter Day

It's been a wondrous (that's wondrous -- not wonderful) day so far.

I woke up this morning to a blizzard and poor Miss Ruby, my little red car, was buried! Grrrrr!

I went and woke up the computer on my way to the kitchen to get my wake-up serum: a big mug of coffee and came back, as usual, to check my email. Even though Time Goes By had shut down, I still wandered over there to see and read the burgeoning number of messages wishing Ronni well and the pleas for her to reconsider her decision.

I saw "Scrabbling Back From a Dark Night of the Soul" and it immediately caught my attention because I love the works of St. John of the Cross -- one of the great mystics of the Roman Catholic Church -- who originated the phrase "dark night of the soul" to describe his own crisis of faith. That crisis can be of our faith in our God or in ourselves and usually occurs when various facets of life gangs up on you. It can happen to all of us, and probably has, at least once. (I probably hold a record for them somewhere given the paths I've travelled.) Ronni went on to describe her dark night of the soul -- a tale of frustration, anger, pain, soul-searching and renewal. And that is as it should be. The upshot of this is that she is BACK!!! I am delighted to say the least! I had been planning a blog about her departure as well as an email telling her how much her encouragement and friendship meant to me, but, for some reason, I hadn't done either. This is so much nicer!!! There are some new guidelines and they are all good. She also made some excellent points on our country and I've no doubt that we'll be discussing them soon. All I can say right now is a heartfelt

WELCOME BACK, RONNI!

I drove to work at a nail's pace (after cleaning a ton of snow off Miss Ruby) through the blizzard growling at the maniacs riding my bumper and no one was in the office so I fielded calls ("No, Jeff no esta en la oficina.") as the troops straggled in slowly but surely. It was my short day so I left at one p.m. and came home to find my next door neighbor just as he was finishing clearing my walks and my landlord repairing my storm door. He also brought me a bag of salt. Cool, huh? I immediately salted the walks so I don't fall and break anything and came inside to write this after a quick lunch.

Now I have to go get ready for one of my favorite events of the holiday season. It's opening night of "The Nutcracker" for our ballet company. I'm familiar with the
young lady who will dance the role of the Sugar Plum Fairy and know it will be an excellent performance. Afterward, it's a late supper at the pub. Good stuff!

What a wondrously great day!!!!!!!!

Happy Blogging!!!!!!!!!
