Some Some Much-Needed Levity

I am still trying to sort a lot sh . . . er . . . cra . . . er . . . stuff -- yeah that's it -- stuff these days and it's got me pretty worn down. Sigh. I still haven't got all the assorted mess with Mama Barb's death and that's another of kettle of fish. Sigh.

Today I left everything on hold and went a-visiting around the blogosphere. If I missed you, forgive me.

I also discovered that while I wasn't looking, Mel Brooka garnered both the American Film Institute's Lifetime Acheievment Award and the Kennedy Center honors for his long and brilliant career in film. I love his work and I treated myself to a few hours on of laughter with his brilliance.

Here are a few videos short and long . . .

Here's a musical tribute . . . (I had blast just from seeing the Mel's reactions and do note the Mel sings along)

What's was your fav Mel Brooks film? I love them all but I think that "The Producers"2 is prolly my favorite . . . tap dancing gestapo and a gay Hitler gets me laughing.

And last but not least here's Mel with his beloved Anne:

What can I say except: "What a couple!!!"?????

Happy Blogging!!!!

  1. Thank you so much for this, Kay! I've been so busy but it was great to just sit back and watch this. I liked The Producers too. I didn't know Mel Brooks was married to Anne Bancroft. Wow! They look so good together.

    2. As to The Producers, the first time I saw "Springtime for Hitler" I laughed so hard I cried and it still has that effect.

  2. This is sad. I just read about Anne Bancroft passing away. I'd forgotten. They say it was very difficult on Mel. They'd been married for 41 years and inseparable. It's nice to hear of a successful Hollywood marriage.

  6. Like MaryContrary, my vote for No. 1 would be History of the World Part I, but Springtime for Hitler was a very close second and hilarious! Getting outside your cave once in a while is good for us all. TODAY IS THE OLDEST YOU'VE EVER BEEN, YET THE YOUNGEST YOU'LL EVER BE. SO ENJOY THIS DAY WHILE IT LASTS.

  8. Ah, here you are again! Thanks for all the Mel Brooks stuff. Think that "Springtime for Hitler" was a favorite and 2,000 year old Man.

  9. Mel Brooks! He is our family's favorite philosopher! When my daughter was a child, she used to caution everyone "never run for a bus, there'll always be another," one of the 2,000 Year Old Man's best pieces of advice.

My favorite movie? Hard to choose. Can I have two? Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein. But I loved all his others.

Whenever I'm on the phone with my sister who lives in another state and she says she has "to go," as in "hang up," I always tell her, "Go ahead, you go save France, I have to wash up"--another bit of dialog from the 2,000 Year Old Man talking about when he used to date Joan of Arc.
