Happy New Year and Two Apologies

1.

I am a bad blogger. I'm still exhausted and I'm terribly depressed with my life, the universe and my country. There's not much I can do about any of it except try to overcome it and right now I feel paralyzed. That said, I'm going to try to pull myself together and work my way through it one way or another. And I'm going to do it with a modicum of sanity. I hope y'all have a Happy New Year!!!!

2. I am soooooooooo disgusted with Speaker of the House and Congress for the crappy bill they passed. And even more disgusted with the Speaker for not calling for a vote on aid to the victims of Hurricane Sandy before closing the session. The latter is unconscionable at best. John Boehner is what my daddy would have called a right royal bastard and the people in Ohio are nicer than that. Members of both parties were a long parade of those who chided Boehner but I'll let Rep. Peter King R-New York) talk:

The fiscal cliff bill, on the surface, looks okay but don't be deceived. Thom Hartman tells us who won and it wasn't y'all or me:

Happy Blogging!!!!

  2. Hey, Kay. I will try this again. I just accidentally erased my first effort. I sympathize with your depression. I feel like 1984 (the novel) somehow crept up on me and all I can do now is try to mitigate how it affects me. I don't know how often we read or listen to or view foreign news and are amazed that none of it has appeared on our media. I frequently translate the innocuous phrases used in a story to a more appropriate (and stronger) language. It seems that the media purpose has now been reduced to anesthetizing their viewers/listeners rather than informing them. As I told mom this morning our media is more infotainment with the emphasis on the entertainment part. The more I read about what was included in the fiscal cliff bill the more I wonder what alternate universe those congresscritters live in. Our news here has spent a lot of time celebrating Sen. Kirk's return to the Senate but I ask "wouldn't it be nice if every stroke victim had the benefit of the kind of intense rehabilitation Kirk got thanks to a wonderful health insurance program?" I think you need to continue to rest up from your intense recent activity in the election. Glad you are back. Take care of your self.

  4. I'm so sorry that you're in the doldrums. We are finding that our government is less than ideal these days too, but happy for the Idle No More support from bands and reservations all over the US. I'm puzzled and saddened as to how all those right-focussed politicians got so much power. Having said that, I hope you get a chance to rest up and restore yourself. Best for the new year!

All we can do is keep on fighting these bastards, tooth and nail.

  6. That Thom Hartman vid is really good. Terry and I discussed it at length.
I do hope to see you more in the blogosphere, because you really know what's going on.

It seems everyone is depressed, not just you. We have assigned ourselves 2.5 hours of intellectual or artistic activity and 1 hour of physical activity per day in my writing group. The rest of the time we are getting errands done and so on so that our living spaces are pleasant and functional even if we stay depressed ... !!!

  9. I'll take a minute to add my two cents worth for what it's worth! It's natural to feel depressed after such a busy busy cycle you've been through, especially those last months of the campaign. Added to that the sense that even though we technically "won", there really aren't any winners--at least not that I know personally. I'm a bad blogger too these days, but I went through some major health related depression after our trip last fall. I threw myself into keeping home fires burning--tossing out trash and stuff I've held onto for years. Right now I'm taking a break from packing everything up and getting it out of the way so the painters coming in Monday to paint most of the interior of our house (first time in about 11 years!). It makes me so tired I'm ready to do nothing, but at least it takes my mind off all the world's troubles. Well, not quite, but I know you understand. Just don't cut yourself off from either the blogging or your friends, both online and nearby. People need people. Remember that even if those b's messing up the government don't remember that!

  11. Gosh Kay... You might need to step away from politics for a while and try to find a happy place in your life to get away from all the crappy news we've been having lately. There were good things that happened in 2012 too. Let's hope for more positive things in 2013.

  13. Happy New Year, Kay.
Sounds like we both need to work on our blogging routine.

  14. It's frustrating for me when I hear people talk about "partisanship" and "Washington gridlock" as if both sides were to blame. The current climate is a result of one party that is at best center left and has largely sought moderate compromises, and another that is extreme and that will accept nothing less than extremism.

Rarely does blame rest entirely with one side, but in this case it does. You don't see Democrats threatening to shut down the government if we don't implement single-payer healthcare.

    The Republicans have gone insane.

  15. Kay, Congressional politics may seem especially hard to take when you worked so tirelessly on the campaign. As commenters here note, many of us feel uneasy with the state of the union and the universe. It's the combination of the weather (always easy to fault) and listening to the stupidity of politicians. You will get past this!
