My Congressman Doesn't Read His Mail

Here's your laugh/outrage for the day . . .  either way it will jump start your blood!

I subscribe to  my Republican Congressman's (Jim Renacci, R-Ohio) newsletter -- not because I like him -- I campaigned against him as most of  you prolly recall.  I do so because I like to keep an eye on what he's been doing.  It's great for raising my blood pressure (which really doesn't need assistance) and keeps me focused on my current mission to re-elect Obama. I have issues with Obama, too but at least he's more or less on my side.

Yesterday I actually got a letter from him in the mail: an invitation to a VIP reception for him tomorrow (Sunday) and his re-election hosted by one of the local fat cats. It's a fund-raiser to re-elect him which tells me that nobody -- including him -- reads my notes to him and that, my friends, annoys me greatly.

I'd love to go -- his "special guest"  is gonna be Speaker of the House John Boehner -- another of my 'favorites' as y'all well know.

The tab for attendance is $400 per person or $750 per couple. AND the recommended donations are: $10,000, $5000, or $2,500 per person. Yeah, right my annual income is less than 10 grand.

I thought about rallying our "Occupy" gang but the hosts live in an area where the cops have a rep being nasty and we are peaceful sorts. I did take the letter down to Democratic HQ and they asked how I managed the invite.  They laughed a lot.

Here's a short video from his opponent -- I think y'all know how I'm voting.

Happy Blogging!!!!!

  2. I think it's a rare Congressperson who actually reads letters from their constituents. Usually the low-paid or unpaid interns handle the mail, sending back "personalized" responses.

But it is kind of funny that he has you on his list of potential donors. (Wonder where that list came from!?!) You should get your local Democratic party to pony up the $400 or you to go, so you can ask some indelicate questions.

    1. I subscribe to his newsletter as I do no matter what party's kool-aid my Congress Critter drinks -- gotta watch the people who supposed to be working for me. And I wouldn't go alone -- need to have someone to post bail. LOL We all know that the Kay doesn't hesitate to speak her mind.

  3. I get both D and R stuff. I have convinced each I'm a party loyalist, somehow. I got a Republican survey of what my hopes were for the next congress/president. It was so slanted it made my blood boil. I almost answered it, but didn't. Then, weeks later I got a Democratic survey along the sames lines, and equally slanted to elicit a response. How I wish the damn rabble rousing could cease and honest men could start making honest policy.

  4. I'm not surprised. After all you aren't his constituent--not really. His corporate sponsors are.

  5. Yes, I know how you'll vote; I'd do the same if I lived in the States.

  6. I watch the commercials, and know that the ones by AFP and Crossroads are simply lies. I love my Senator Sherrod Brown, and crossroads is spending a fortune against him. I urge everyone to vote for him, since he stands up for the average people.

Jim Renacci is bad for Ohio. He is a tool of the moneyed elite. Check this out. http://atr.rollcall.com/ohio-donations-to-renacci-mandel-part-of-federal-probe/

    1. I know that!!!! Sherrod Brown has been my hero for decades. And yeah, I know all about Renacci -- I campaigned for John Boccieri two years ago. I'm supporting Betty Sutton now!!!

  7. I love Sherrod Brown, too!!! Renacci is my Congressman & he IS a millionaire already -- I campaigned against him two years. That he invited me to his fundraiser is a joke; I wouldn't vote for him on a bet!!!

  8. Kay -- I guess he didn't read his mail. I don't think any of them do -- let the clerks do the slave work. -- barbara

    1. Obviously, his clerks don't read my emails either or they wouldn't have invited me. Let's just say that my emails are not complimentary.

  9. It is disheartening the extent to which our public representation depends on having money... lots of money. Money talks, and the politicians listen.

I don't expect politicians to read my communications. I do, however, expect that an intern will read it to the point of figuring out where I stand on whatever is the issue that I wrote to discuss, and possibly tally my view into a database of some sort. However, I always receive a reply about how "Mr Wonderful" feels about the issue - usually implying that I wrote in agreement with his position. I think it is better not to write about things on which we disagree. I think that any communication at all is tallied as supporting whatever "Mr Wonderful" is doing!

  11. That's a lot of money that they're expecting from us. I know I don't have that kind of money to go to a dinner like that(not that I'd go to one for this guy).

    1. I'm so broke I can't pay attention -- partly due to Republican policies -- that I received it was a huge mistake. I took the letter with me to Obama HQ to do my volunteer thang and we all had a chuckle!!!

  12. Wow! you live in one of the most interesting swing House districts in the country. A lot of people are counting on you folks to push Sutton over the top. Go for it!

    1. It's just become that way. Up until a few years ago, we had the same bought and paid by for a local industrialist Republican for decades. We're working our you-know-whats off -- our city has been hit hard by plant closings and union-busting.

  13. Yeah, my Congressman, David Dreier, is a pretty powerful House Repub., that I make certain to track. His Aides haven't always done a very good job of responding to topics I've written him about. One time in particular the response was totally unrelated. He held periodic phone conferences in which I was invited to respond. I did stay on the phone line for several calls but could listen only. I tired of being subjected to his political line and became convinced I would likely never be given the opportunity to ask him questions. Redistricting has resulted in his deciding to not run in a district that wouldn't include our area any more. Will be interesting to see who our new Rep. will be come Nov. Think a Dem. has a good shot at winning.

    1. Hope you get a great new rep -- I just want Renacci to go away. I'd vote for Voldemort before I'd ever vote him.

  14. Another plus to you receiving his mail is that he is spending his campaign funds on mailing you invitations for a fundraiser....I wonder how many other people who will never donate a dime have been invited. I'd rather see them mail out fundraiser invitations than put the same money into more negative television ads.

    1. I never gave this idiot a dime and I NEVER will!!!! I campaign against him. I subscribe to his CONGRESS newsletter -- our tax dollars at work -- just as I do all my representatives.
