Powerful Words

I can't manage too much in the way of a post today. If I ever get my sleep patterns in semi-normal mode I'll die a happy woman. I'm pretty much caught up on visiting with y'all and will try get around today as well.

I'm not into the royal wedding. It's nice and all that but royalty has no interest for me.

However,I wanted to share a couple things with y'all. I am incredibly disappointed in Obama -- maybe it's that big bus he's throwing us elders under. I left a note at his website. They usually reply and it's never anything that makes me feel better. I might be poor but I'm not stupid.
I can see the bus coming. A hat tip to Steve for this powerful video from comedian Baratunde Thurston. I can't add a single thing to what he said and I don't blame him a bit for cussin' a bit. I was swearing, too. If you have problems with video I urge you to read his responsr on it here
.

As I said, I'm gonna be brief. I think the video and article stand on their own!

Happy Blogging!!!!!!!!

Kay

  1. I will never get caught up visiting and I have given up trying.

I know the pain that Beratunde is feeling, but I look at it from Obama's standpoint. He is trying to get his important messages out and all the media focus on is the nuttiness of Donald Trump and the other birthers. It seemed like the only way to stop the attention that Trump and others are getting was to put it to rest.

Unfortunately, the crazies will never stop. Of course, racism is behind it all, but it's best to ignore the people who are no better than the Klu Klux Klan and not give them attention.

I think the media is the real villain here. If they would ignore Trump and his ilk and concentrate on real and factual news then we might not have such an uninformed electorate.

  2. Trump is really being a creep about Obama's birth certificate. Everyone knows he was born in HI, Trump needs to give up. He is being used by the powers that be to try and distract. We are not buying what he is saying.

I did not except to much from Obama, I know the games that have to be played in Washington. Obama gave us what he could but he was not going to bend over like the Rep's do. Whether people want to believe it or not, the President has very little power in this country. I will relate an old family story:

Teddy Roosvelt was gov. of NY and he was causing problems. So, the big wigs in NY went to my uncle, who was a senator, and asked what they could do to get rid of Teddy.
My uncle said, "make him President, he'll have no power."
Teddy became President and the rest is history. This is how our country is and has been for a very long time.

    take care

  4. I agree abt. the royal wedding. I can see why the British make a big deal out of it, but why do Americans care? For the spectacle? The melodrama? Seems to me that a Royal Wedding is kind of anti-democratic.

Anyway, the sound on my computer isn't working right now so can't hear your video. But for an analysis of Obama I recommend "The Consequentialist" by Ryan Lizza in the May 2 New Yorker. Intelligent (altho' too long) analysis of his approach to governing, esp. his foreign policy, that shows (to me at least) that he's just a little more nuanced, a little more sophisticated than the public is able to understand and the media is willing to give him credit for.

  5. That was excellent, Kay! Thank you. Sometimes I wish that Mr. Obama's aides would stop bringing him the scum-bag variety of news. (It would help if there were actually any real news programs broadcast, too.)

  6. Thanks for sharing, Kay. I watched this twice and completely get the perspective.

I tell you, I watched our President speak last night, and was again convicted with how much I really like and respect this man. The tribulations that he is facing and the lack of respect are second to none that I can remember, and yet he continues in his conviction that we will find a way to move the country forward.

I really appreciate you sharing these things, as it gives me insight that I hadn't expected.

Other than that, hope you are doing wonderfully!

  7. Remarkable video. I wonder if Trump had the balls to watch it? Probably not.

  8. Cussin' is in the air down here, too.

Hope your sleep problem improves soon.

    Hugs to you.

  9. Darlene: You make an excellent point but the fact remains the Baratunde has slashed through the bottom line that we haven't come as far as we should have. I grew up in a house where the 'n' word was was used but it disappeared over time. My parents were northern country folks who rarely saw, much less talked to, African Americans but they grew along with the country as it changed. What we're seeing right now proves that the KKK is alive and well.

Hopefully, the younger generation will put an end to the nonsense.

LTTS: You and I aren'y buying it but the TP is.

Maggie: I do, too. However, in these difficult times, I feel I have to keep aware because if we don't we will suffer for it grievously.

Sightings: I agree and have noted the article.

    Nance: I agree!!!

Wild: I'm glad you enjoyed it. I liked it because of its focus on history and the point of view of educates young blacks. I hope someone showed it to Obama.

  10. Speaking of Malcolm X, if you haven't read his autobiography, it's a good one.
