* It's still snowing in Ohio with no end in sight. The roads are awful so I'm not moving. Thank God that I have a pretty well-stocked cupboard and fridge although I'm starting to run out of perishables and it's about time to refill my scrips.
* I wrote my Teaparty Republican congressman about the repeal of the Healthcare bill and I'm posting the entire text of his response. Needless to say, I have issues with his response. Here it is:
Thank you for contacting me with your concerns regarding the repeal of ObamaCare. Your views are important to me as I work to effectively represent you and Ohio's 16th Congressional District.
The greatest problem facing our healthcare system is the ever growing cost of care. Unfortunately, the healthcare reform bill passed in the last Congress failed to effectively address this major concern. The provisions contained within the bill actually work to drive up the cost of insurance for many Americans by damaging the ability of small businesses to provide insurance for their employees. Specifically, new rules placed on businesses as a result of the law include burdensome and expensive new paperwork, incentives to hire fewer employees, and damaging new taxes. The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office estimates a loss of roughly 650,000 jobs as a direct result of the bill. These disincentives to hiring come when we can afford it least, at a time of nearly unprecedented national unemployment.
The solutions to the problem of cost in our current system went entirely ignored throughout the debate on healthcare; the need for medical malpractice lawsuit reform, and the ability to increase competition and choice through purchasing insurance across state lines. Without meaningful medical malpractice lawsuit reform, doctors will continue to fear frivolous lawsuits and practice defensive medicine, driving up costs through unnecessary procedures. The current limitation of a citizen's choice of insurance providers to those within their state diminishes competition and allows insurers to charge exorbitant fees. Without these solutions in place, the cost of healthcare will continue to rise at an unsustainable pace.
I would like to thank you for sharing your thoughts with me on the issue of healthcare reform. Know that I plan to thoroughly review the current system with your thoughts in mind. In the future I encourage you to visit my website, www.renacci.house.gov where you can email me with any other concerns that you may have.
Sincerely,
Congressman Jim Renacci
Member of Congress
I don't care if Attila the Hun is the Democratic candidate in my district in 2012, I'm going to campaign for him.
* I urge you all to go read today's excellent post by by my Wisconsin friend, Russ. It's called "Fraud: Congressional Reform Act of 2011"
It's very well written and I urge y'all to write your congress critter. I think y'all know who will lose on this one. I don't care if you don't like politics -- I don't either. However in this day and age, we have to be concerned and take action if we want a decent future for our children and grandchildren. The fact that 44% of our congressmen are millionaires, left me reeling and explains a lot.
* Sarah Palin is screaming "blood libel". Couldn't we say the same about her irresponsible words and maps?
* Here's a great video of Bill Maher with Jay Leno. It's funny and sad all at the same time. Bill really lays it right smack on the line.

ReplyDeleteI'm going to mutter about your computer instead. How old is it? It sounds as if old age is winning.
I love your political rants. Maybe it's because I agree with you. Thanks for including the Jay Leno interview.

ReplyDeleteOh Kay, please do not go back to bed and pull the covers over your head. (I know you're not gonna.) We all count on you to inspire us, inform us, instigate us . . . or at least, as a relative newbie, I know I do. Keep 'em comin'!
ReplyDeleteOh God, how I love that man!
ReplyDeleteMaggie: It's not that old -- Microsoft put in some crappy updates and it messed some things up. System restores are not fun.
ReplyDeleteMarty: Awwwwwwww shucks!!! I love Bill Maher.
M.E.: We can't have that, can we? I left the link at your place.
Sightings: There are those who would disagree. I just pass the message. The whole basis for blogging is: Everyone is entitled to my/your opinion. My dear departed daddy always said that opinions are like belly buttons* -- everybody has one and everyone is entitled to one. (*Daddy used a different part of anatomy)
Lorna: Meeeeeeeeee, too!!! His show is back on Friday!! I can't wait for more New Rules! LOL
