Kay's world has been in more of an uproar than usual and I'll spare you most the gory details.
Trying to get away from it all was a fruitless effort. The weather didn't cooperate well so I came home because I couldn't get time on the beach. However, I did have some fun and my camera a got workout and now I'm asking myself, "where in the hell are some of the pictures I swore I took?" Oh well, I guess I just swore and y'all will see some tomorrow if I am here. I've another journey in mind and haven't decided when or if I'm going.
* Yesterday I had an MRI on my left shoulder. I thought I had separated it (always a danger for stroke survivors) while lugging stuff in the house when I returned from my trip. I called the Dr. Maria and she worked me in. She said it wasn't separated but ordered the MRI because there might be tear in the rotator cuff. Her nurse called and indeed, there is a tear and I'm adding an orthopedist to the Legion. Sigh. MRIs have come a long way from their beginning. I had one in the early days when they were scary. No more of that -- they put a headset on you and you get to choose your tunes. I made a mistake in my choice. I chose The Temptations. It's the sort of thing that gets me moving (I use it at home for housework). Next time I'll choose something mellow that relaxes me. Good thing I didn't choose ZZTop!!!!
* Good news!!!! My blood work came back good -- even my cholesterol!!! Bad news: I've lost more weight but the doc didn't seem worried.
* I'm trying mightily to get a few things caught up despite the injury. I find it best if I prop my arm up on pillows which means that I can't sit at my desk very long. So much for blogging and visiting y'all. There's a sling that helps but I'll be damned if I know what it's called and Dr. Maria didn't know either. Ortho Dude will probably be able to help. I'm doing this a little at a time and hope to make a few visits to y'all. Please be patient.
* From my Weird Stuff dept.: I found this when I picked up my of Chinese food 'fix' last week!!!!
* Tomorrow, August 28th, is the 47th anniversary of Martin Luther King's "I have a dream . . ." speech. I thought we had come a long way from those days but every time I hear the absurdities spouted by the likes of Glen Beck and Sarah Palin, I wonder. Are we ever going to learn?
* Here's one of my favorite songs from the days when Soul was king and I was the dancin' queen. And yeah, it played during my MRI and it keeps me moving when I do house work.
Hope y'all are having a great day!!!!
Happy Blogging!!!!!
Kay
I love that song :)
ReplyDeleteSorry your arms hurt, am sending postive energy for a quick heal :)
Glad you didn't chose ZZTop either (LOL)
I don't know if we are ever going to learn. It seems we take 2 steps forward and 3 back. I'm losing heart for the betterment of mankind.
Hang in there :)
Kay, I didn't know that about stroke victims so I'll be on the lookout for that with mr. kenju. He does complain of shoulder pain, but on both sides.
ReplyDeleteI hope your ortho doc can be of great help and I hope you heal quickly.
I love that song, too!
ReplyDeleteSorry about the shoulder - not fun!
I did Christmas Carols in the MRI (it was December) - less chance of moving to the music.
Hang in there. Really!
Glenn and Sara . . . . now there is a pair to draw to. I am completely embarrased that a clown and a crazy could turn so many politcal heads.
ReplyDeleteI have been through two rotator cuff injuries, went through physical therapy. Seems like the only thing that worked was time, after months and months, they eventually got better. My PT guy made a bunch of money though, so someone got some benefit.
ReplyDeleteLove that music. So many of them are still going strong. Does the music help them????
ReplyDeleteThe current political atmosphere is so toxic that it has become scary. I know that around my area, bigotry is back out in the open. I don't know that it ever was gone, only hidden. Now that things are tough, everyone is in an Us vs. Them mode. Scarily reminiscent of another country a few decades ago. Political group whipping up the masses to blame another group for all of the problems faced by society.
It is hard, but try to keep your positive attitude. It is the only way........
Congratulations! You are the ONLY WOMAN OF A CERTAIN AGE who says it's "bad news" if you lose weight!!!
ReplyDeleteThat truly makes you one in a million!! of course, we knew that....
That song had my foot tapping!
ReplyDeleteIt's too bad you injured your shoulder. It sounds painful. Hubby uses a pillow under each arm when he sleeps -- physical therapist's order! It seems to help his shoulders.
LTTS: Well, rotator cuff is a bit dicey and it's not my arm but my shoulder and the one that doesn't work right.
ReplyDeleteJudy: I'll drop you an email on this. I'm betting that I'll be in PT soon -- AGAIN!
Colleen: Thanks!!! I'm trying!!!
Maria: I call it an unholy alliance and feel your pain.
Robert: Thanks for the info. I've dealt with this before, too.
AITBR: I think it (music) help. I've noticed that my friends who act old look old and the ones like me who still rock on do not. And yes, a lot of people here are showing how red their necks are. I find it disgusting. I'm taking the moral high road and love reminding the idiots that their behavior is un-Christian.
XE: Well, when one doesn't know why one is losing weight, one worries and twenty pounds is a lot.
Sorry about your rotator cuff injury. P.T.s tell me if strokes leave residual weakness in arms or legs (usually either left or right sides)people do have to be careful -- good that you know that, but guess we're always at risk for overdoing. Staff in skilled nursing facilities are supposed to know this, too, but often find patients, family members and others of us in rehab. have to remind the aides and/or private duty nurses who provide care to not be pulling, lifting the person around by the arm. Hang in there gal!
ReplyDeleteAre The Temptations the ones who did "The Great Pretender" -- a favorite song of a friend of mine?
re: injury
ReplyDeleteWell, that's a pain. Ha, ha,ha!
Sorry, payback for the Groaner of the Week. ;)
I hope you are feeling better soon. How do you feel when you cough? I am always amazed by which injuries can be sensitive to coughing.
