Good-bye Eartha!!!!

One of my favorite singing stars, Eartha Kitt, died Christmas Day in Connecticut. She had been recently diagnosed with colon cancer. I honestly thought she would go on forever. Her marvelous voice, impeccable style, and indomitable spirit will live on in the hearts of those of us who loved and admired her. She was eighty-one.

Her death ended a career that spanned six decades -- not bad for a mixed race child from the cotton fields of South Carolina. For me, she defined the words 'sultry' and 'glamour' and leaves a legacy of a stellar career in stage, screen, television, and music. She added 'author' to her countless accomplishments with her book, "Rejuvenate! It's Never Too Late". She is survived by her daughter, Kitt, and four grandchildren.

My favorite quotes from her are: "I am learning all the time. The tombstone will be my diploma." and "My recipe for life is not being afraid of myself, afraid of what I think or of my opinions.” I live the first and aspire to the second. She is definitely high on my list of heroes.

Here's a video of her in 2006 on the Today Show:

And here's one of my favorite videos of her -- it's a montage of photos of her. The last one is the cover photo of her book.

I and millions of others will miss her.

Thanks for being you, Eartha!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. I was so sad to hear of her death -- she was absolutely my favorite singer of "Santa Baby" -- sultry, sexy, funny --- a really classy lady, they just don't make 'em like that any more

  5. I loved Eartha Kitt. Even her name has a flair. And she'll forever be remembered at Christmas-time. My 3-year-old grandkids sing Santa Baby mimicking her sweet, sexy little girl voice.
