Ruby & Me

I've been busy. My little beloved red car & I have been spending a lot of time with Rob -- my excellent mechanic. Rob is the kind of guy who listens to a vehicle for a minute or two and tells you what's wrong -- a rare gift -- and what it will cost in a minute or so. On Monday, she goes under the wrench for a mini tune-up and assorted other little things The fun part is that she's over 13 years old and Rob says that she's one of the best cars GM ever made. I'm hoping that she'll last until they pry the keys (and driver's license) out of my cold dead fingers.

The other fun part is that when she needs tires (as she just did recently), I get to go out to the used auto parts yard and get them which scares the hell out of my friends -- the old bikers who work there sorta chuckle when I appear but then they were afraid of bikers back in the day, too. But hey! They give me my propers and I give them theirs.

Have been working for Obama's group when the spirit moves me. And yes, I'm disappointed with him but he beats the alternative. Sigh. Here's Bill Maher at his best:

I'm cleaning everything and it's all coming together. If you walked into my house, y'all would see disaster but it's all coming together. (And if y'all want to come by and help -- laugh hysterically -- you are soooooooooo welcome) LOL

I'm also trying to get through all health insurance stuff and gird my loins for the forthcoming craziness attached to that -- if I ever get done translating it. (I am not fluent in bureaucratese.)

Hope y'all are having a great day. Hopefully, I'll be around to visit later!!!!

Happy Blogging!!!!!

Kay

    2. And oh. yeah. I've been excluded from your blog -- because I don't do Google plus. I call this a violation. Nazism has come to blogging!

  2. May your little red car live long and prosper. You too. Groups are being set up in our little town to explain the insurance options. I'd love to help but I am clueless.

Kay--It's great to have a mechanic whom you can call "friend". If you lived down the street, I'd be happy to come do what I call "cleaning". You would laugh hysterically at it. (It involves a bottle of wine.)

I'm wondering if the alternative would have moved as much toward the other wing?

    Good luck with your bureaucratese!

    1. Rob is the kind of mechanic you remember at Christmas time! LOL

Your "cleaning techniques" are prolly a lot like mine. Mine involve a 6-pack of beer!!!! (but wine would work, too)

  4. Luv that Maher bit. Unfortunately, I failed to score 100 answering his questions. That bothered me until realizing I too am an American!

  5. I sympathize about the bureaucratise--it's hateful and completely brain-numbing.

  6. You sound a lot more chipper. I sympathize with you on the bureaucratize. I am dreading next spring because I will be in Medicare and will have to pay closer attention to all that.

  7. Sigh, I'm already on Medicare and doing okay.

Allegedly, my insurance guy has me covered 6 ways from Sunday and I'm just fine!

    We'll see.

  8. Good to see you back and in a better mood. I would be in a good mood, too, if I only knew a good mechanic. Alas, I'm left with the dealer, who knows a sucker when he sees one coming. (But the last independent guy, recommended to me by a neighbor, was even worse!) So, hold your friends close, but hold your mechanic even closer.

    1. LOL I understand -- Rob has been our mechanic for decades. The good news is he's younger than I am and I pray that he hangs in until I have to quit driving.

And yes, I know how blessed I am!!!!!

  9. You are so LUCKY to have a mechanic you can trust! We had one in Illinois. That was one reason we weren't that thrilled about leaving. I'm still looking for a trustworthy one here in Hawaii. And Rob is younger than you? Even better!

  10. Actually, I have two. There's one around the corner from me, too, but I have a longer history with Rob. He really is a treasure as was his boss before he retired. The fun part is running into my fellow customers from the old days. I'm not the only one who re-discovered him.

And what's even better, he doesn't soak you for your last nickel.

  11. I hope Miss Ruby withstands her ordeal well. She'll probably want a clean-up and a fresh wax job after all that.
Hold onto her. The newer cars are much trickier to repair. My mechanic (aka my husband) always did our car repairs, but our newer Camry is not something he can deal with if anything serious is going on with it. But since he is a guy who knows about cars, mechanics don't pull any scams on him.

    1. LOL We went to visit Rob and we had to postpone as he couldn't get the part he needed but he can have it on Wednesday. He says the price is a rip off but my take is that it's cheaper than a new car. I'm just trying to keep her alive until I'm ready to hang up my keys! I've been lucky in that I've had good, reliable mechanics.

  12. Kay,

Did you ever see "Grandma's Bottle Village: The Art of Tressa Prisbrey"? Here's the link, http://folkstreams.net/film,102 and I believe you will discover a soul-sister. Been sharing this for years with other old ladies & gents.

Also, been thinking that there's real need for people like you to be counselors (think the govt. uses that term) for folks coming into Obamacare. Is this an idea? yours, naomi

Haven't been blogging much lately, but thought I'd drop by tonight and see how you are doing. Ups and downs, sounds like. I think I found my friend Lorna in Wonderland through your blog way back when. All is well in my world--turned 76 and still working 3 days a week.
