The DNC Convention and Assorted Nonsense

I have been following both parties' convention and they are sooooooo different in their approach.

The GOP raised my blood pressure last week with their mean-spirited name-calling and downright lies even about things as inconsequential as a marathon time(yeah, you Paul Ryan -- you pathetic child!). The nasty and mean-spirited rhetoric grated on my last nerve. 'Ugly' is the only word I can use to describe the tone of the whole debacle. How anyone could find anything positive from the these alleged humanoids astounds me. I don't want such people in power. They are plain damned mean and I know some life-long Republicans who are supporting Obama rather than lower themselves (their words not mine) to supporting Romney-Ryan.

The Democrats began with my former (and hopefully, again) governor, Ted Strickland, hit it outta the park and set a great tone for the convention (If Mitt was Santa Clause, he'd fire the reindeer!) and Michelle followed with a stellar glimpse of herself and her husband. Last Elizabeth Warren opened and delivered an awesome speech on what we need in this country. Bill Clinton took it a step further delivered a 48-minute outta-the-park home run that had me outta my chair. It was Bill Clinton at his very best -- as Al Sharpton said, "Elvis and Bubba were both there." -- and made an airtight case for Obama.

I got a big kick during the roll call vote of the States for the nomination when the Mississippi delegation ceded to Ohio because he knew our 188 votes would seal the nomination of Barack Obama. Needless to say, I was proud that we Buckeyes had that honor and my thanks to the great State to Mississippi for offering this generous gift.

I can't wait to see Obama's speech tonight. We're having an event at a local college to watch it. I don't think I'm going because I don't feel well and I haven't for the past couple weeks but I've mostly rallied on doing what I need to do. I just don't feel up to crowds right now.

Here are a few things that I've collected for y'all . . .

Do you want a liar for your vice president? Here's two minutes of Paul Ryan:

And here's a Republican who thinks straight . . .

And here's why I love Elizabeth Warren -- do y'all see why?

And here's Bernie -- need I say more?

Happy Blogging!!!!!!!!

  2. I hate politics; the end of this ugly campaign and the reelection of the president will be a relief.

    1. I don't like politics either but I pay attention because I hate a lot of politicians. I get involved because I think that we need people who are committed to making this country better for ALL of us.

  3. I cannot understand why the right has to be so mean and mean-spirited. it is one thing to be against the President and his policies, but quite another to vilify him and everything he says. The insistence on not compromising on anything or with anybody is reason enough not to want these bullies in power.

  4. I was struck by the different tones of the two conventions, also. I couldn't watch the Republicans for more than a brief minute every now and then, but they simply weren't as enthusiastic as the Democrats have been so far. They didn't have any particularly outstanding speakers and the crowds looked sour-faced and angry, for the most part. They are people who are not happy with their candidates, I think.

  6. Kay, you sound so much like me regarding last week's RNC. My doctor had to change my heart pressure meds. Can you beat that!? I didn't hear the roll call last night, but I was wondering what the chances were for Ohio to bring the number up. That was really a nice thing Mississippi did. I guess I can't completely write off that state after all! I think of you every time I see those volunteers all charged up and wish you could have been there in NC! I'll miss Obama's address tonight cuz we're babysitting, but I'll revel in all the reruns tomorrow!

  7. Lucky me---I get a perspective not many Canadians are getting. The fact that it fits my own political bent is a bonus.

  8. I didn't watch either convention but I got a flavor of the differences from the news clips and bloggers. Mean spirited about covers the Repthuglicans. And I don't really see what they have to be mean spirited about. Sad to not how many are professing to be Christian. They don't seem to have actually read anything their claimed Savior supposedly said.
