Damn

I am about as angry as I've ever been in my 64 years on the planet and I am in tears. I am a stickler on non-intrusive, useful programs on my computer and it's been a joke among my techie friends on my obsession with keeping my computer free of intrusive programs. That said, I got a huge mental hot foot today when I went to Picasa today having forgotten why I no longer use it and before i knew it, an enormously huge -- over 100 MB of crap -- being mined and I stopped it and uninstalled it so fast, it would make your head spin. I tried a couple free photo editors I found as well and they didn't work worth a damn. I liked the free edition of Photoshop and used it for
years -- it worked nicely and was not intrusive at all. I also tried other editors/sites and they didn't/couldn't/wouldn't do what was needed. I'm also disappointed in my camera as I've ever been. It didn't do a very good job either or maybe it was the photographer or the nasty little kids who kept jostling me. Sigh. It doesn't really matter because it made what was already a bad day worse. I give up.

Happy Blogging

Kay

  2. I'm with you Kay, but it seems like you're stuck with intrusive programs no matter what unless you use a unix or linux platform, which I keep thinking about switching to.

I am so sorry, Kay. I had no idea that Picasa was like that. I must be stupid not to realize it. I have it and have never even noticed the data mining.

    I apologize for suggesting it.

  5. Colleen: not anyone's fault.

    Linda: Me, too.

AITBR: Don't be sorry. It's my fault for forgetting why I got rid of it.

  6. Forget why I never got involved with Picasa.

I still love iPhoto, but that's on my Mac. Whatever photo editor is free on my PC isn't worth spit, though it does work for some things--like turning the sideways photos right side up, etc. That's pretty basic.

  7. I don't know what intrusive means, actually, but Kodak Instant Share is 123 MB, and I love it, and have used it for many years, and have never had any problems with it.

  9. Sorry you had this problem. I'm not into all the photo business, but keep some on my computer. Sounds like a real headache. Expect you're sleeping on it as I write this, so hope tomorrow (today) will be better.

  12. That's weird about Picasa as I have it and like it very much. Anybody who has Blogger automatically has it as a way of storing photos for the blog; but I like it so well that I have the photo editing software (free) on my computer and use it regularly but have never noticed any problem from any of it. I don't really understand what you mean by data mining though. Maybe you can write more about what it did at a later time when you are further from the frustration and from removing it from your computer.

  13. Yes, I'd also like to know more about that. I've found Picasa unsatisfactory because it seems inflexible. You can't move, remove and edit what you want easily (or maybe that's just dumb ol' me). I like Flickr better, but they're constantly reminding you of your limited storage and the need to upgrade.
