A Day for Groaning and Laughter --- and I Missed It!

Yesterday, I was wishing that I was in Austin, Texas. That's nearly as weird (weirder than?) as W.C. Fields saying, "On the whole, I'd rather be in Philadelphia." You, gentle bloggers, are probably wondering if the Kay has slipped her gears. Well, my friends, I lost those long ago, as you've probably guessed, but I had an excellent reason to visit that city yesterday.

Y'all may or my not know that I love puns. If the punchline to a joke makes me emit a huge groan, you've made my day!!!! I collect them and have an archive of them on my hard drive. I've often thought of posting a Groaner of the Week here to share my pain. :-) When my fellow pun lover and long time 'Net friend, Paul, sent me news of the 2007 O. Henry Pun-Off World Championships last week, I was ecstatic! I had no idea there was such an event and it is really quite an affair. It's sponsored by and benefits the Henry and Dickinson museums in Austin and draws punsters from across the country to meet and compete for prizes as well as just plain fun! The results of the championships weren't available online this morning and I was disappointed not to be able to share the winning pun. Oh well.

There's also an organization dedicated to puns: The International Save the Pun Foundation. Their motto is: "A day without puns is like a day without sunshine. There's gloom for improvement." Groaaaaaaaaaaan! Their website is truly fun and I guarantee a good laugh. Membership is free and if any of y'all are interested, they have a newsletter called -- what else? -- The Pundit and I, of course, could not resist joining. There is even a word for our afflic . . . er . . . ah . . . penchant for puns: paronomasia: (pair-uh-noh-MAY-zhee-uh), noun, a play on words. Count on that many of its members were in Austin for the Championships but, alas, I was not. Sigh.

And remember: I am an incorrigible punster -- please don't incorrige me! LOL

Happy Blogging!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kay
